Texas enacted comprehensive laws in 1995 that clarified that women have a right to breastfeed in public. Moreover, it also set up standards for employers to advertise themselves as ‘mother-friendly’ if they develop breastfeeding support policies, and set up a demonstration project to determine the feasibility of breastfeeding support policies for all state employees. Texas has a statute governing human milk banks. There is also a law governing breastfeeding services to mothers discharged early from the hospital.

In December, 1991, Canada signed and ratified theUN Convention on the Rights of the Child. As a ratified member, Canada is internationally accountable with regard to its universal legislation on the rights of children and youth. These include the right for children and youth to live in a safe, protective and nurturing environment.

Somalia has stated it intends to ratify the Convention soon.

Duty to report is the most important of all child abuse laws.

In Canada, if someone knows of or suspects that a child is being abused, that person has a legal obligation to report the known or suspected abuse. Failure to report can result in charges being laid, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

Megan’s Law is named after a 7-year-old Hamilton Township, New Jersey girl named Megan Nicole Kanka. On July 29, 1994, she was lured into her neighbor’s home with the promise of a puppy and was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered by a two-time convicted sex offender who had been convicted in a 1981 attack on a 5-year-old child and an attempted sexual assault on a 7-year-old. What is Employment Discrimination Law?

Employment discrimination law refers to federal and state laws that prohibit employers from treating workers differently based on certain attributes unrelated to job performance. Discrimination by government employers violates the constitutional guarantees of equal protection and due process. Discrimination by private employers may conflict with any number of statutory protections, most notably, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Not all classifications qualify for protection against discrimination in the workplace. Vanderbilt Law School offers a range of joint-degree programs in conjunction with other graduate schools at Vanderbilt University. Joint-degree programs require that prospective students apply separately to and be admitted to each school independently, and financial aid is awarded and administered by each school separately. The exception to that rule is Law Economics, which has a unified admission process and where students receive full fellowship support covering full tuition and stipend for both degrees.

Encouraging state and local law enforcement agencies to help enforce federal immigration laws could help identify out-of-status immigrants eligible for deportation, but may also have unintended consequences, according to a study issued today by the RAND Corporation.

"Enforcement of immigration laws has traditionally been a federal responsibility," said Jessica Saunders, lead author of the study and a criminologist with RAND, a nonprofit research organization. "But it's clear that the federal government alone isn't going to be able to clear the backlog of cases without some additional assistance.
