Contract law, which involves legally binding agreements between two or more parties, is a common field of law that is taught in many schools. The study of contract law covers a range of issues, from the sale or exchange of goods to employment and family matters. Within these areas, students learn how to approach such situations as contractual obligations, breach of contract and termination of contract. Those who specialize in contract law can work in several different fields, including real estate and entertainment.

Compared with other types of law, environmental law is relatively new. It deals with the regulation of environmental standards in such areas as air and water pollution and hazardous waste disposal. Since many environmental rules and regulations are still being defined, this type of law often involves litigation between environmental agencies and large corporations. And because environmental issues are the concerns of the entire planet and not of just one particul ... Read more »

Occasionally questions are raised about whether or not students at online colleges and universities can trust their degree will have value in the workforce. Evidence has borne out, however, that institutional accreditation and thorough academic advising and career services departments can combine to produce similar results at online schools as they do on brick-and-mortar campuses.

Of course, students who choose to fully engage the material tend to get more out of the experience than those who don't, whether they choose to attend classes online or in person. Look a little deeper into a few individual online degree programs and find out how they can contribute to a rewarding education and fulfilling career.

Staff Writers May 6,

When it comes time to apply for law school, many students also find themselves applying for a series of law school loans, grants, and scholarships. Law school student loans are offered both federally and privately to students who have completed an undergraduate degree, taken the LSAT exam, and are prepared to begin law school. Whatever isn t covered by scholarships, grants, and financial aid can then be supplemented by law school loans.

Each loan program will have a set of requirements laid out for applicants; however, there are a few general criteria students should expect to come across. For Federal Direct Loans. students are required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine their eligibility for loan assistance. Though there are several maritime academies offering certificates and undergraduate degrees, very few United States law schools offer a concentration in maritime law or a Master of Laws in the area. Fortunately, the law schools in the United States offering maritime concentrations are found at some of the best law schools.

Since 1982, Tulane University School of Law has offered studies in maritime law. The school is world renowned, and it is currently ranked by U.S. News and World Reports as the 45th best law school in the United States. Lawyers (also called attorneys or counsel) serve as advocates for people and organizations. They represent clients both to the court and to opposing parties. Lawyers can represent clients in criminal cases, where a law has been broken, and in civil cases, in which one party is suing another.

Lawyers are also important partners in situations that don’t involve the courtroom, advising clients about their legal rights and obligations for personal or business issues. They are trained to interpret complicated systems of laws and navigate the court system.

First, a lawyer will advise you as to whether or not you actually need legal help. It’s not always obvious whether an issue is a legal matter or something that can be resolved without involving the court system. A lawyer will help you answer these initial questions.

    Full-time, Part-time or Distance Learning?

The difference here is pretty obvious. A full-time LLM will require a student to devote themselves entirely to the LLM, just like an undergraduate degree. You will attend lectures, participate in seminars and undertake independent study. Spending about 40 hours a week learning, a full-time LLM will take between nine and 12 months to complete.

A part-time LLM programme will also involve attending lectures and seminars. However, the times when these take place differ; the majority of part-time postgraduates continue to work whilst they study, which means their university contact hours in which they attend lectures and group ... Additionally, you can get updates in the new laws, as well as search many previous Court and Appealate Court decisions. We are not attorneys and do not give legal advice. While you may think that jobs in the legal field are limited largely to opportunities for attorneys, there are also dozens of other professional positions available to those interested in law. Although lawyers rank among the most visible and well-compensated of the positions available in the field, there are many professional paths in the legal field that don't impose the significant educational and financial resources that the completion of a law degree usually requires.

In addition to the positions available for attorneys, the field of law includes opportunities for legal secretaries, law firm administrators, paralegals, investigators, consultants, court reporters, legal assistants, clerks, document specialists, and more. In addition, there are hundreds of related opportunities available in the criminal justice field, ranging from behind-the-scenes administrators to front-line detectives and law enforcement officers.

#What You Can Expect To Make With An MBA From A Top School - Poets and QuantsPoets and Quants

What You Can Expect To Make With An MBA From A Top School

How valuable is an MBA degree? You can answer that question in any number of ways. But the bottom-line answer might well be how much money you will earn immediately upon graduation.

Anyway you look at it, 2014 was a very good year for average salary and bonus. At many schools, including Harvard and Stanford, it was the first year that average pay exceeded pre-recession levels. The $144,750 average commanded by Harvard MBAs was finally above the $144,261 that members of the Class of 2008 received. The $142,834 average by Stanford MBAs exceeded the $140,771 received by Stanford grads in 2008. And at nearly all the schools, average pay hit new record levels.

MBA graduates from 44 different business schools in the U.S. landed jobs with six-figure pay packages last year, up from 24 in 2010 when the Great Recessi ... Read more »

    Possession

If you are an adult 21 years of age or older, you can now legally possess one ounce of marijuana in Colorado. The way the amendment is worded actually allows for possession of one ounce of THC. This is great news, as in addition to buds (flowers), you can also enjoy many types of concentrated and edible forms of marijuana during your visit. Cannabis seeds are also available for sale in Colorado.

You don't need to be a resident, and there isn't any type of registration system. Simply put, as long as you are 21 years or older, you have a constitutional right in Colorado to possess and consume marijuana. You will need a government-issued identification to prove you are 21 years or older. a drivers license or passport should be sufficient. You can learn more about your privacy when visiting a recreational marijuana store in our blog.

#LLM GUIDE - What is an LLM?

    LL.M. Graduates at Case Western

The LL.M. (Master of Laws) is an internationally recognized postgraduate law degree. It is usually obtained by completing a one-year full-time program. Law students and professionals frequently pursue the LL.M. to gain expertise in a specialized field of law, for example in the area of tax law or international law. Many law firms prefer job candidates with an LL.M. degree because it indicates that a lawyer has acquired advanced, specialized legal training, and is qualified to work in a multinational legal environment.

In most countries, lawyers are not required to hold an LL.M. degree, and many do not choose to obtain one. An LL.M. degree by itself generally does not qualify graduates to practice law. In most cases, LL.M. students must first obtain a professional degree in law, e.g. the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the United Kingdom or the Juris Doctor (J.D.) in the United States, and pas ... I understand they need to charge for their services as it is a business, but to mislead folks to lure them to their site. This is a very shoddy and unethical business practice. Lying is not an acceptable marketing tactic to any business entity that carries any kind of integrity. It is for this reason, I will not be doing business with them. There are other more reputable legal sites out there. I am able, and more than willing to pay but I don t like being lied to. Honesty DOES count.

Gov. Bobby Jindal signed the measure into law Monday, along with a bill that will eventually get medical marijuana to people suffering from cancer, glaucoma and a severe form of cerebral palsy through a limited number of distributors.

Someone caught with less than 14 grams of marijuana now faces up to 15 days in jail and up to six months if caught with less than 2.5 pounds but more than 14 grams. A second offense has dropped from a felony charge to a misdemeanor crime, carrying a sentence of no more than six months, under the bill by Rep. Austin Badon, D-New Orleans.

    #LLM Info

What is an LLM? A Master of Laws, or LLM, is an advanced academic degree not to be confused with a professional degree in law, such as a Juris Doctor (JD). There are several important differences between an LLM and a JD. Lawyers typically earn an LLM for one of two reasons: to become familiar with a foreign system of law. or to gain expertise in a specific area of law .

A JD, on the other hand, allows lawyers to practice law in the United States. Some states allow lawyers with professional degrees from foreign countries to practice law in the United States if they earn an LLM focused on the American legal system, such as that offered by the online @WashULaw. but LLM regulations vary between states. Lawyers interested in taking this route to practicing law in the United States should contact their local Bar Admission Offices. An LLM earned for the sake of expertise in a narrow field of law does not affect a lawyer’s eligibility to practice law – it simply deepens a ... Read more »

Law firm may help Lafayette with BP

    Posted: 07/19/2015 11:56 AM

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette Consolidated Government may hire a New Orleans law firm to handle negotiations for a settlement payment from BP for economic losses resulting from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster.

Several public entities in the state already have reached settlement agreements, but Lafayette s claim for a share of the BP pie has yet to be resolved. The city-parish filed a claim in 2013.

Lafayette officials have declined to talk about how much money they are seeking or any aspect of the negotiations - including how it will be spent.

City-Parish Council Chairman Kenneth Boudreaux tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1MAx48n ) he is reluctant to even consider how any extra cash might be spent, considering the uncertainty of the settlement.

Officials say the law firm s fee would be up to 15 percent of any payout.

With more people riding bicycles, following the rules of the road is especially important. A bicycle is a legal road vehicle, just like a car. This means that bicycle riders have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers.

Here are some laws to be aware of whether you are biking or driving a motor vehicle:

    • Bicycle Helmets - Currently, there is no state law requiring helmet use. However, some cities and counties do require helmets. See Localities Requiring Bicycle Helmets .

    What is Stalking?

Stalking is the unwanted pursuit of another person, such as following a person, appearing at a person's home or place of business, making harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing a person's property. By its nature, stalking is not a one-time event.

The individual's actions must be considered in connection with other actions to determine if someone is being stalked. It includes repeated harassing or threatening behavior toward another person, whether that person is a total stranger, slight acquaintance, current or former intimate partner, or anyone else.

    Stalking Laws

Stalking is a relatively new crime now on the books in every state. Stalking laws in most states pertain to a relatively new crime involving a clear pattern of conduct in which the offender follows, harasses, or threatens another person, putting that person in fear for his or her safety. Long Distance Law: Studying Law at Uni without being at Uni

    Written by David

Law school is hard. While that might be the most self-evident statement ever typed, spare a thought for the law student completing their degree online. Although listening to lectures whenever you feel like it and being able to wear your pyjamas during “class” sounds really appealing (particularly if you’re sitting in a lecture at 9am on a Monday) distance study is not as easy as it seems.

I began studying for my law degree online and for the eighteen months of my three year JD course I barely saw a university building. Yes, I learnt equity and trusts sitting in bed wearing my Peter Alexander PJs. Even though I was extremely comfy, there was something that I was really lacking: interaction with other students.

I chose to study online due to the convenience. It allowed me to work while I studied, and yes, also beca ... Read more »

A microeconomic law that states, all other factors being equal, as the price of a good or service increases, the quantity of goods or services that suppliers offer will increase, and vice versa. The law of supply says that as the price of an item goes up, suppliers will attempt to maximize their profits by increasing the quantity offered for sale.

The chart below depicts the law of supply using a supply curve, which is always upward sloping. A, B and C are points on the supply curve. Each point on the curve reflects a direct correlation between quantity supplied (Q) and price (P). So, at point A, the quantity supplied will be Q1 and the price will be P1, and so on.

The law of supply is so intuitive that you may not even be aware of all the examples around you.

In general, a barrister undertakes no work except through a solicitor, who prepares and delivers the client’s instructions to a barrister. Solicitors confer with clients, give advice, draft documents, conduct negotiations, prepare cases for trial, and retain barristers for advice on special matters or for advocacy before the higher courts. They have a right to act in all courts as the agents for litigation or representatives of their clients, and they are deemed officers of the court, but they may appear as advocates only in the lower courts. Since their activities make up the greater part of the work of lawyers, solicitors are many times more numerous than barristers.

    What is Contracts Law?

The concept of a contract dates back to ancient times. However, the modern rules regarding the formation and interpretation of contract is largely derived from the common law legal system. A contract is an agreement between two or more people having a lawful objective to do some thing or purchase some product in exchange for a corresponding exchange of value.

The elements of a contract are:

Offer and Acceptance (often called a meeting of the minds)

Consideration (the value exchanged between the parties)

and Mutuality of Obligation (one cannot be required to give substantially more than the other)

Some also consider capacity, or the legal competence to enter into a contract, an element of its formation.

    #Marijuana laws: Baked Alaska

    Baked Alaska

SMOKING cannabis becomes legal today in Alaska, the latest state to lift its prohibition of the drug after Colorado and Washington. which took the plunge last year. Alaskans over 21 can now grow up to six of their own plants, share up to an ounce (28g) of harvested pot, and smoke as much as they like in private without breaking the law. Selling the stuff commercially will become legal next year, once the state authorities have hammered out a set of rules to regulate the business. Alaska’s 750,000 residents aren’t going to turn the pot business on its head. But two things about the state make it an interesting case study for weed-watchers.

One is that it currently has some of the most expensive marijuana in America. The price of pot is closely linked to proximity to Mexico, which has historically provided most of America’s cannabis. That is bad news for Alaskan tokers, who live a very long way from the Rio Grande. ... Read more »

    #Map of motorcyle helmet laws

    Motorcycle helmet use

Motorcycle helmet laws vary widely among the states and have changed a lot in the past half a century. Currently, 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws requiring all motorcyclists to wear a helmet, known as universal helmet laws. Laws requiring only some motorcyclists to wear a helmet are in place in 28 states. There is no motorcycle helmet use law in three states (Illinois, Iowa and New Hampshire).

In the past, many more states had universal helmet laws, thanks to pressure from the federal government. In 1967, states were required to enact helmet use laws in order to qualify for certain federal safety programs and highway construction funds. The federal incentive worked. By the early 1970s, almost all the states had universal motorcycle helmet laws. However, in 1976, states successfully lobbied Congress to stop the Department of Transportation from assessing financial penalties on states without helme ... Read more »

#Majors and Minors - Preparation for the Study of Law - Health Professions and Prelaw Center - Indiana University - University Division

Law schools do not prefer any major course of study! Allow this point to sink in: law schools are not concerned with the specific major you choose. In fact, because law schools seek broad diversity among applicants, including diversity of majors, having an unusual major is absolutely fine. You can find lists of admission rates of applicants by undergraduate major. And some have higher rates than others. But in a way, this is like listing rates of admission based on an applicant's favorite color. On such an imaginary list, some colors would have higher admission rates than others--but it is obviously NOT because of the particular color. The same is true for majors. Every year students from over 50 majors at IUB are admitted to law schools around the country. You may have also head that law schools to not like prelaw majors. This is also not true. St ... Legal Status in the Roman World

The Julian marriage laws (nos. 120-123, etc.)

In 18 B.C. the Emperor Augustus turned his attention to social problems at Rome. Extravagance and adultery were widespread. Among the upper classes, marriage was increasingly infrequent and, many couples who did marry failed to produce offspring. Augustus, who hoped thereby to elevate both the morals and the numbers of the upper classes in Rome, and to increase the population of native Italians in Italy, enacted laws to encourage marriage and having children ( lex Julia de maritandis ordinibus ), including provisions establishing adultery as a crime.

The law against adultery made the offence a crime punishable by exile and confiscation of property. Fathers were permitted to kill daughters and their partners in adultery. Husbands could kill the partners under certain circumstances and were required to divorce adulterous wives. Augustus himself was obliged to ... Read more »

Business school candidates should take rankings into account as they contain an enormous amount of useful data, but applicants should also take time to study their methodology. Rankings should not be viewed as the most important aspect.

The main goal of rankings in general and MBA rankings in particular is to inform prospective students about a business school's and a programme's notoriety. Rankings also provide a global picture of the programme's offering in a specific geographical area or more generally worldwide. It is a good starting point for prospective.

Although different in each case, rankings usually take into account the following factors: Gradutate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Grade Point Average (GPA) of new entrants; learning resources available at each school.

Rankings should be treated with caution.

Be aware that rankings never represent all factors about schools and that some of these factors may be crucial to your choic ... Read more »

As distance education become more and more popular, more and more people are becoming interested in how to get their law degrees online. There are numerous online law schools, but there is one catch; most states require that a student graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association before they take the state bar exam, and the ABA does not recognize any online schools. One state does allow students from online law schools to sit for the bar exam, however-California. If the convenience of getting degrees in law online offsets the gamble, students will find they have many distance law programs to choose from.

The school has courses in labor, employment, corporate and criminal law, as well as in taxation, health care, intellectual property and legal writing. Property law, then, deals with the allocation, use, and transfer of wealth and the objects of wealth. As such, it reflects the economy of the society in which it is found. Since it deals with the control and transfer of wealth between spouses and across generations, property law also reflects the family structure of the society in which it is found. Finally, because it deals with such fundamental issues as the economy and the structure of the family, property law also reflects the politics of t ... Read more »
