Schools that feature practice and mock trials may be very attractive to prospective students. Trials allow students to gain practical courtroom experience, and they are overseen by faculty members. The school should also offer part-time summer and winter work opportunities, such as internships and clerkships within government agencies and corporate law firms.

Students may want to consider law schools based on a particular specialty. Law specializations include environmental law, constitutional law, medical law, business law, corporate law, real estate law and international law. While many law schools offer various programs, some schools may be nationally recognized in a particular area of law.

Cost and location are also important factors when considering a law school. Students may want to consider in-state public law schools in order to take advantage of their proximity and in-state tuition. Students need to make sure they can reach the financial obligations of a particular institution. Law schools in major metropolitan areas may offer more internship and employment opportunities.
