#Law LLB (Graduate Entrant) - University of Strathclyde

Entry Requirements/ Apply

We offer graduates from other disciplines an accelerated route to gaining an LLB degree within just 2 years.

Graduates can choose to study Scots Law Accelerated LLB or Dual Qualifying Accelerated (Scots and English Law) LLB. Information on the Scots Law Graduate Entry LLB can be found by clicking the course structure tab above. Information on the Dual Qualifying Accelerated (Scots and English Law) LLB can be found here .

We also offer an innovative 2 year Clinical LLB (Scots Law). Information on this degree can be found here .

We aim to provide our students with the knowledge, skills and confidence that will equip you to contribute positively to society. Reflecting those objectives, the teaching aim of the Law School is to ensure that we provide our students with a student centred learning environment which stresses the importance of both theory and practices thus enabling our students to develop a depth of understanding about the law and its practical application.

We believe that the quality of our graduates and the proven success of obtaining and retaining employment indicates that they do indeed possess the sorts of skills which society generally, and the legal profession in particular, requires.

Career Opportunities

The Scots Law LLB has an obvious appeal to anyone wishing to develop a career in the legal profession, but a law degree is seen as an equally attractive option for a variety of individuals and employers in spheres as diverse as teaching, public sectors, housing, administration, social welfare services as well as commerce and industry generally.

The LLB law degree is therefore both an academic discipline worthy of study in its own right, and a qualification recognised by the Law Society of Scotland as a necessary preliminary for entry to the Scottish legal profession.

The Educational Route to Enter the Legal Profession in Scotland:

After completion of an LLB, it is necessary to complete the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. Places on the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice are limited and are judged by academic performance.

After completion of the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, intending lawyers need to undertake a two year traineeship in a law firm. Applications are directly to law firms and there is increasing competition for traineeship places each year.

Please also note that gaining an LLB does not guarantee a career as a Solicitor or Advocate. Nevertheless, the LLB is a well respected degree and considered to be a solid foundation for entry into a number of different careers.

Course Fees per annum for 2014-15 - Please note these fees may be subject to an annual increase.

Need more information?

An Information Session for Part-Time LLB and Full-Time LLB Graduate Entry will take place this year on Tuesday 19th May 2015. Please register here if you wish to attend. See Want to be a Lawyer flyer
