Under current UK law you can live with someone in a number of legally recognised ways that include:

  • Civil Marriage
  • Civil partnership
  • Co-habitation

In each of these types of relationship you must be fully aware of the law if you want to separate from your partner. Separation law is slightly different depending on the type of relationship you have. For instance, civil marriages are legally binding. Separation law states that your marriage is dissolved if you separate from your partner for more than five years. If you want to legally separate earlier, you must follow divorce proceedings.

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 is now law. It allows same-sex couples to get legal recognition of their relationship. If you are in this type of relationship, you are called a civil partner , and this is recognised under UK law. Separation law with civil partnerships is similar to civil marriage. You should consult a family law solicitor if you ... Read more »

Tort law is a branch of the law which covers civil wrongs, such as defamation and trespassing. among many other transgressions. Under tort law, if someone suffers a physical, legal, or economic harm, he or she may be entitled to bring suit. If the suit is deemed valid, damages may be awarded to the victim to compensate for his or her troubles. Most of these laws are found in regional, state, and national civil codes, which often spell out limits on damages and the statute of limitations for tort cases.

Many people divide tort law into three rough categories: negligent torts, intentional torts, and strict liability torts. Torts arising out negligence are civil wrongs caused by negligent behavior or a failure to practice due diligence. For example, if you are playing soccer in the street and you accidentally kick the ball through someone's living room window, this may be a negligence tort. Medical malpractice and other forms of professional negligence are also covered under th ... Read more »

Note. This page covers information specific to Florida. For general information concerning the use of recording devices see the Recording Phone Calls, Conversations, Meetings and Hearings section of this guide.

Florida's wiretapping law is a two-party consent law. Florida makes it a crime to intercept or record a wire, oral, or electronic communication in Florida, unless all parties to the communication consent. See Fla. Stat. ch. 934.03. Florida law makes an exception for in-person communications when the parties do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the conversation, such as when they are engaged in conversation in a public place where they might reasonably be overheard. If you are operating in Florida, you may record these kinds of in-person conversations without breaking the law. However, you should always get the consent of all parties before recording any telephone conversation and any in-person that common sense ... Read more »

Like any sector, the field of education has specific legal issues. Providing services to special needs students, free speech rights, approving homeschool curricula, locker searches, cross-town busing, and affirmative action policies are just a few of the reasons why Education Law is recognized as a specific legal subfield. Currently, the legal cases and policies that shape the operation and expectations of the U.S. education system evolve daily and require knowledgeable professionals.

Since our nation's inception, the government has played a role in defining the importance and nature of education. The first federal act relating to education was the Ordinance of 1785. Passed by the Continental Congress, the Ordinance set aside portions of each congressional district for schools. In 1787, Congress passed the Northwest Ordinance that became the first federal policy statement acknowledging the benefit of knowledge and education for the general welfare.

Today, the federal ... Read more »

Having your master of law degree opens up many opportunities in the administrative realm of any industry. Lawyers and non-lawyers are both eligible to obtain a master of law degree, but students must not confuse a master of law degree with law school. If you are considering going to graduate school for law, look into some of the professional positions you would be eligible for with this type of a degree.

Many companies in various industries, such as health care, need compliance officers who ensure program integrity and company adherence to applicable regulations. With its consistent climb in popular rankings and unwaveringly solid reputation among the nation's top law firms, the Fordham University School of Law continues to cement its place among the nation's best law schools. More and more, the school is mentioned in the same breath as New York's traditional giants, NYU, Columbia and Cornell. Highly qualified applicants wishing to attend law school and find prestigious employment in one of the legal capitals of the world, New York City, should give Fordham serious consideration.

Part of Fordham's climb in popular law school rankings could be attributed to the school's increasingly selective admissions process. Of the nearly 8,000 applicants that apply to Fordham Law School in a typical year, about 25%, or 2,000 applicants, are granted acceptance. The school's entering class boasted a median LSAT score of 166 and a median GPA of 3.64 for full-time students, and medians of 163 and 3.42 for part-time students. Most hail from Ivy-League ... International business law is the practice of law in the global business community. It includes a focus on economics and the law, international commercial transactions, licensing, tariffs and taxes, and many other topics. International business law varies by jurisdiction. It builds on top of basic business law concepts by expanding them to an international arena.

A study of economics and the law gives an attorney an analytical framework for considering legal and economic aspects of a particular policy as it relates to international commercial law. International business law is almost always related to trade or commerce in one way or another. Considering the economic impact of a specific transaction or a policy’s effect on transactions is an important part of this practice area.

Public international law issues affect commerce and trade in a variety of ways. The laws of several different jurisdictions come into play in each transaction. An analysis of the specific laws ... Read more »

    1. What is the law of supply?

Law of Supply

2. Law of Supply

It states that at higher prices, producers are willing to offer more products for sale than at lower prices.

It states that the supply increases as prices increase and decreases as prices decrease.

It states that those already in business will try to increase productions as a way of increasing profits.

3. What’s difference between Law of Supply from the Law of Demand?

4. Like the law of demand, the law of supply demonstrates the quantities that will be sold at a certain price. But unlike the law of demand, the supply relationship shows an upward slope. This means that the higher the price, the higher the quantity supplied. Producers supply more at a higher price because selling a higher quantity at a higher price increases revenue.

5. Time and Supply

Unlike the demand relationship, however, the supply relationship is a factor of time. Time is important to supply ... Read more »

A common law right exists even when no law has been passed by a legislature to establish that right. The right exists because the courts of the common law jurisdiction have recognized it. A number of rights were recognized at common law, but in the US, in , the term common law is often associated with common law marriage. Common law principles also govern certain aspects of US trademark law.

The term common law refers to legal precedent that has been developed in a court system, rather than through legislative action. In a common law system. cases are decided based on past court decisions. This kind of system developed in England and has greatly influenced the legal systems of countries, including the US, which were once governed by Great Britain. Common law rights, as a general rule, do not exist outside these countries.

One of the most frequent examples of a common law right arises from common law marriage. This is the relationship that arises when a couple lives t ... Read more »

Child support laws direct the non-primary residential parent to pay child support. Child support may be paid through the state or directly to the primary residential parent. Child support is to be used for food, clothing and housing for the minor children.

If you do not pay your child support, there are several consequences, depending on the state you are in. In some states, you may lose your license, serve jail time and, in all states, you are required to pay arrearages. Some states will allow you to pay the arrearages in payments, if you have a legitimate reason for not paying. Legitimate reasons are generally defined by the courts on a case-by-case basis.

Child support is court ordered and the time the child support starts depends on whether your spouse has petitioned for child support in the petition for dissolution of marriage, or if your spouse filed a separate motion for child support. Separate motions can be filed against you and once a hearing is held, you m ... Read more »

According to Newton s first law, an object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. It is the natural tendency of objects to keep on doing what they re doing. All objects resist changes in their state of motion. In the absence of an unbalanced force, an object in motion will maintain its state of motion. This is often called the law of inertia .

The law of inertia is most commonly experienced when riding in cars and trucks. In fact, the tendency of moving objects to continue in motion is a common cause of a variety of transportation injuries - of both small and large magnitudes. Consider for instance the unfortunate collision of a car with a wall. Upon contact with the wall, an unbalanced force acts upon the car to abruptly decelerate it to rest. Any passengers in the car will also be decelerated to rest if they are strapped to the car by seat belts. Being strapped tightly to the car, the p ... Read more »

The Occupational Safety and Health Act became federal law in 1970 when members of Congress passed it to facilitate increased safety in the workplace. An immediate effect of the legislation was the creation of two new federal entities: OSHA in the United States Department of Labor and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health under the Centers for Disease Control Prevention. While OSH, and therefore OSHA, covers many federal agencies, it does not apply to farms operated by families, local and state government agencies, self-employed individuals or any business under the jurisdiction of federal laws besides OSH.

The primary law that OSHA enforces is OSH, along with numerous regulations related to everything from longshoring guidelines to record keeping to workplace inspections. To pursue its agenda and persuade employers to remain in conformity, OSHA also has the ability to exact penalties for violations of employees' rights and, consequently, its standards.

If you re one of millions of Americans considering going back to school (or if you re going to school for the first time) you face not only an exciting decision, but a daunting one as well. There are hundreds of degrees and fields out there, and trying to decide on one can be confusing, to say the least. We ve put together a guide to the different types of college degrees and what they mean, but before you get started, here are a few things to think about:

  1. What level of degree do you need? Make sure a given college degree program is tied to a specific career goal. For example, if you want to become a public school teacher, you need a teaching certificate.
  2. Do you meet the program s prerequisites? Many types of degree programs, especially the more advanced ones, require you to hold previous degrees or qualifications. No matter how nicely you ask, an MSN program will not admit you unless you have a practical nursing degree.

Even if his opponents conceded that Abraham’s life was characterized primarily by faith, Paul knew that they still would have questions about why God gave the law to Israel about four centuries after Abraham. Did not the giving of the law nullify any previous arrangement?

What is the point of Paul’s analogy between a person’s final will and testament and God’s covenant with Abraham? Gal. 3:15–18 .

A covenant and a will are generally different. A covenant is typically a mutual agreement between two or more people, often called a “contract” or “treaty”; in contrast, a will is the declaration of a single person. The Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, never translates God’s covenant with Abraham with the Greek word used for mutual agreements or contracts (syntheke ). Instead, it uses the word for a testament or a will (diatheke ). Why? Probably because the translators recognized that God’s covenant ... Read more »

THE LAW OF INERTIA

T he law of inertia states that:

A body will preserve its velocity and direction so long as no force in its motion's direction acts on it.

For example : a package thrown out of an airplane will continue to move at the speed of the airplane on the horizontal axis (in the direction of the airplane's movement). Since the law of gravity acts on the package (a vertical downward axis), the package will gather speed along the vertical axis, but on the horizontal axis its speed will remain equal to that of the airplane.

(In this explanation we have left out the force of air-resistance).

The law of inertia is the basis of the new physics of the seventeenth century. This law is also true according to modern physics. Galileo discovered the law during the first decade of the seventeenth century, but in fact he did not understand the law in the general way we have formulated it here. The general formulation of th ... Read more »

Some civil lawyers handle civil rights cases. These are cases in which an individual -- or group, for class action lawsuits -- believes that her basic human rights have not been respected. Examples include seeking damages for unlawful police searches, or discrimination in housing, employment or education. People can feel that their right to privacy is violated during unwarranted searches or that they were denied opportunities to get a job, a residence, or go to a school because of certain characteristics.

Personal injury law is an enormous legal field encompassing many different types of harm. Essentially, personal injury lawyers can assist you when you are harmed through the negligence, recklessness or carelessness of another party. ERISA

Health Plans Benefits

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) is a federal law that sets minimum standards for most voluntarily established pension and health plans in private industry to provide protection for individuals in these plans.

ERISA requires plans to provide participants with plan information including important information about plan features and funding; provides fiduciary responsibilities for those who manage and control plan assets; requires plans to establish a grievance and appeals process for participants to get benefits from their plans; and gives participants the right to sue for benefits and breaches of fiduciary duty.

There have been a number of amendments to ERISA, expanding the protections available to health benefit plan participants and beneficiaries.
