Top 10 Universities for Distance Education

Looking at overall performance, t he University of New England (UNE) is Australia's best online university. It is the 3rd largest, has the equal highest course satisfaction rate, and produces high graduate salaries.

Following UNE in the list of the top online universities are two of Australia's larger providers: Deakin University and the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). They are near the top for different reasons. USQ produces good graduate outcomes. Deakin's courses are rated highly.

Charles Sturt University is ranked as Australia's fourth best online university. It is Australia's biggest.

Monash University is Australia's fifth ranked online university despite not specialising in distance education. The massive Melbourne university gets high course ratings and a high percentage of students go on to work or study shortly after graduating.

The rest of the top 10 online universities are the University of New South Wales, Edith Cowan University, University of South Australia, the University of Tasmania, and Curtin University.

Ranking Method

The rankings place equal weight on three things: number of distance education students (according to uCube ), course satisfaction ratings (from the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS )), and graduate pay outcomes (from the AGS).

The components are mathematically adjusted to produce accurate, comparable indicators. We limit the rankings list to the largest 20 online universities. Universities outside the biggest 20 have limited course offerings.

Best Online Universities for International Students

For international students, the best online university is the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

USQ is the only Australian university with a large number of international students who study by distance education. It has around 3,700 international distance learners. The next closest is CSU, with a little over 1,000.

A key reason for USQ's dominance in international distance learning is low tuition fees. USQ's annual tuition fees for international students are towards the bottom end of the range among Australian universities. On top of that, USQ often offers discounts for courses taken by distance education.
