Talk to a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Shoplifting offenses are fairly common, but that doesn't mean shoplifting crimes aren't taken seriously. What is Shoplifting?

Shoplifting is typically defined more broadly than the simple removal of merchandise from a store without paying for it. You can also be charged with shoplifting (or retail fraud) ... Read more »

#So That Was Law - Order - s GamerGate Episode

When Law Order: SVU takes on video games, the results are usually not pretty. Tonight's episode—a GamerGate special—was no exception.

They're playing a game, Ice-T's character says at one point, referencing a group of misogynistic terrorists who have kidnapped a female video game developer. We've gotta play too.

If just reading that line made you cringe, you probably don't want to watch this episode, which is simultaneously horrific (said game developer is beaten and held at gunpoint) and embarrassing (at one point, a character calls people FALs, an acronym that Ice-T says stands for Fails At Life ).

It's corny, terrifying shlock that demonizes hardcore gamers and turns complicated conversations over misogyny in gaming into a cartoon caricature of good vs. evil. Even as SVU's writers imagined up a terrifying, totally feasible kidnapping scenario, they just ... Read more »

    #Specific State Laws Against Bullying

Every state has passed some sort of law or policy regarding bullying. Montana is the only state that has passed a statewide policy discussing bullying without having enacted a statute specifically prohibiting it. All other states have at least passed a law defining bullying and authorizing school officials or other authorities to take appropriate action to stop it. There is currently no federal law specifically addressing bullying, but other federal laws, such as civil rights and nondiscrimination laws, may require schools to intervene with certain types of bullying.

Although anti-bullying laws vary from state to state. they generally focus on listing the specific behaviors that constitute bullying. These behaviors can include teasing, threats, intimidation, stalking, harassment, physical violence, theft, and public humiliation. States may also identify certain characteristics or traits of students who are often targeted for bullying, a ... Read more »

#State Foreclosure Laws - Summaries and Legal Reseach Information.

    Talk to a Foreclosure Lawyer

The foreclosure process in each state is governed, in large part, by that state’s foreclosure laws. Each state’s foreclosure law is different. By reviewing your state’s foreclosure law, you can find out:

    • how much notice you are entitled to before your home is sold in a foreclosure
    • how much notice you are entitled to before you are evicted after a foreclosure sale
    • how much time you have to reinstate or redeem your mortgage after a default (if your state provides such rights)

    sports law: an overview

Sports Law encompasses a multitude areas of law brought together in unique ways. Issues such as antitrust, contracts, and torts are quite common. For further information in these areas see:

Sports Law can be roughly divided into the areas of amateur, professional, and international sports. The distinction between a professional and amateur athlete is somewhat tenuous. So-called "amateur" student/athletes at universities often receive scholarships and other forms of compensation. Also, keep in mind that even though an athlete may be defined as an amateur by one organization, he or she may not be an amateur according to another. Of course, this leads to even more confusion. A simplistic, yet useful definition is that amateur athletes participate in sports as an avocation while professional athletes are involved in sports as a vocation.
