#Georgetown Law - TLS wiki

The Georgetown University Law Center (GULC) is located in one of the world's most vibrant legal and political communities and has vast resources to offer its students. Academic opportunities and extracurricular activities, including clinics and journals, are never in short supply, and the school's location near the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol is something else students can take advantage of. GULC offers both a full- and a part-time J.D. program, the highest-ranked program to do so.

As of the class of 2012, Georgetown had a Law School Transparency employment score of 73.2% (essentially the percentage of graduates employed as entry-level lawyers) and a total debt-financed price tag of $263,473. In this age of rapidly increasing cost of law school and rapidly decreasing job prospects, 0Ls must do their due diligence when investigating law schools and do everything possible to maximize chances of employment and minimize debt.

#Per Se Violated Labor Law With ‘Service Charge, ’ Inquiry Finds - The New York Times

A private event at Per Se, a restaurant with prices to match its opulent confines at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle, near the luxury skyscrapers often called Billionaires Row, is yet another level of exclusivity in a dining experience where Nova Scotia lobster coddled in butter joins a menu where foie gras is followed by caviar and truffles.

In this ultraluxury world, it can almost make sense that even though the restaurant embeds the gratuity for its staff in the cost of its $310-per-person dinner prix fixe, it also demands an extra charge for private dining.

But a 20 percent “service fee” for such events, like a fancy soiree for an elopement in the private dining room, was, for a time, not destined just for the waiters who rush Italian white truffles and other delicacies to the tables, an investigation by the New York State attorney general’s office found.

With a degree comes an increase in possibilities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in , the median weekly income for high school graduates without a college degree was $651. In comparison, those with bachelor's degrees took home $1,108. Over a five-year span, bachelor's degree holders, on average, have the opportunity to earn $119,226 more than those with only a high school diploma. With careers commonly spanning decades, it's not hard to imagine the lifetime impact a degree has on one's income, and, in turn, general prosperity.

As individuals look to keep pace with the developing job market, more and more are turning to distance learning as an alternative to traditional classroom instruction. A survey by Babson Survey Research Group found that since 2003, the average growth of online students per year has been 568,000. This figure has been growing as established brick-and-mortar schools are increasingly offering online course options as well. Find out which onlin ... Read more »

Yesterday, a student at Oxford’s Said Business School challenged her fellow students to donate to a fundraising campaign for victims of the Nepal earthquake, pledging to personally match every dollar raised in the next seven days, up to $20,000. Today, the school is already 24 percent toward its goal, having raised $4,875.

April Chapman, who pledged to match funds raised by the students in Said’s Diploma in Strategy and Innovation program, said that social media posts and emails began to fly as soon as the news broke, and her cohort immediately decided that raising an immediate financial gift would be the best way to make a difference. Chapman serves as co-chair of the World Vision Innovation Fund, a faith-based humanitarian development and relief organization serving the poor in more than 100 countries. World Vision’s staff in Nepal, along with staff mobilized from other countries, are delivering temporary shelters, food, hygiene kits, water, emergency health and protection ... Read more »

I just finished my Contracts final, but I will not blame my grade on this book.

This does what it is supposed to. It supplements the material that the Prof. presents in class. If you are not sure what the modern rule is, this is where you go. If you are not sure if there is an exception, this is where you go. If you are not sure what the basic functions of the rule is, this is where you check. If you are not sure what Restatement or UCC section applies, this is where you check.

This book is great for supplementing your notes and filling in the gray areas. For that, it is invaluable, but like all commercial outlines, it cannot replace your notes.

As the previous reviewer says, the flow charts are excellent. This certa ... Read more »

#Get a College Degree in 24 hrs

IN A NUTSHELL - LOW COST LEGALITY

The average cost of obtaining a legally granted degree thru this process is $180.

The process is achieved thru the exploitation of LEGAL LOOPHOLES.

We are often asked what this means and the best definition, that neatly encapsulates the concept, is that an institution is legally formed and operating in such a way that it makes the granting of a degree legal, whereas this would otherwise be illegal.

There is only so much that can be done for less than $200.

If you do not understand the concept of legal loopholes explained above, do not understand the limitations explained in the main FAQ or you have unrealistic expectations of what can be achieved for under $200, then you should NOT apply.

We always prefer to have a happy client that is smart enough to understand what we can and can't do, than an unhappy client who doesn't.

Basically, we promise a ... Read more »

Please keep in mind when studying the Constitution, both procedural and substantive law.

Frankly, many an answer on a test was simply answered quickly with just sufficient writing on using, and knowing the difference between procedural and substantive law. Many may interpret my words as over simplistic. Yet I tell you my professors were taken in that I could, and with ease pull the necessary elements from the Constitution to make my argument, again by drawing upon both procedural and substantive law.

The reason why I have chosen Chapter Four is because of DEFENSE. Attorneys, and students of the Constitution will find that in the heat of battle (debate). To construct a defense, you will need to get to the elements in the Amendments of DEFENSE quickly.

Amnesty, which has been granted seven times in the US, is a controversial subject regarding illegal immigration laws. America has had a long-standing problem with workers who cross its borders illegally to find higher paying work than what is available in their home country.

There are many factors responsible for the illegal immigration problem. The US has a long border that is hard to police. In addition, there is high motivation for workers to risk the dangerous border crossing because of the relatively high potential reward for those who do make it across.

These undocumented workers then stay inside the US and generally work hard to make a living despite the lack of official government support. Some people who have studied the worker’s predicament suggest amnesty as a solution.

What do we mean by amnesty as applied to the problem of illegal immigration?

In 1986 a blanket amnesty bill was passed for the first time ever in the United ... Read more »

Law school quality is evaluated in different ways that can consider combination of empirical statistics, or on surveys of educators, scholars, students, prospective students, or others; for example, certain schools are grouped together in terms of equivalent quality and prestige. Since there is no official ranking authority, books and magazine articles assign law schools purported numerical quality rankings, which are based on factors such as strength of curriculum, faculty, career services, skill of students and quality of library services that make up the reputation of a law school.

The American Bar Association( ABA ) and its Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar have emitted disclaimers of any law school rating system; for that reason, the ABA and the LSAC publish The Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools. It is an annual law school guide that contains data on ABA accredited law schools in the United States and provides a set of standard data on which ... Read more »

#Godwin s Law s Law - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia

From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia

Mike Godwin, the inventor of Godwin's Law.

Godwin's Law's Law. also known as "Godwin's Rule of Godwin's Law analogies", states that: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison invoking Godwin’s Law approaches 1.” Godwin’s Law's Law is often cited in online discussions as a deterrent against comparing comparisons with Hitler or the Nazi regime with Godwin’s Law to void an argument that might otherwise be valid, to void the voiding of that argument.

Godwin’s Law's Law merely makes an observation that as an online discussion grows, if the probability of invoking Hitler approaches 1, then the probability of invoking Godwin’s Law approaches 1 as well. By citing Godwin’s Law's Law, however, the user is usually implying that Godwin’s Law does not make a Hitler comparison invalid, as Hitler comparisons can sometimes ... Read more »

#Godwin s Law

[edit ] How it works

“ ” When I saw the photographs from Abu Ghraib. for example, I understood instantly the connection between the humiliations inflicted there and the ones the Nazis imposed upon death camp inmates—but I am the one person in the world least able to draw attention to that valid comparison.

With the increase in the number of media for online discussion, Godwin's Law is now applied to any online discussion — be they mailing lists, message boards, forums, chat rooms, blog comment threads, or wiki talk pages.

Traditionally in many Internet discussion forums, it is the rule that once such a comparison is made, the discussion is effectively finished and whoever mentioned Hitler or the Nazis has automatically lost the debate. though it is considered sort-of acceptable if one immediately says "Pardon me for invoking Godwin's Law." The blogosphere has only heightened the prevalence of Godwin's Law with Nazi references being dro ... Read more »

Additionally, the school estimates that students will spend approximately $20,646 on living expenses, books, health insurance, etc. Overall, the school recommends a total budget of $72,394 yearly for full-time students and $59,796 for part-time students.

To help students combat this debt, the school offers a variety of financial aid options. In the most recent data reported to the ABA, the school noted that 37.8% of students (or 415 out of 1,099) received grant and/or scholarship aid. In addition, 55.7% of its grants and scholarships were less than half tuition, 44.3% were half to full tuition, and 0% were full tuition scholarships. Finally, the school gave out less money for part-time students than full-time students - the median grant for full-time students was $20,000, and for part-time students it was $5,425.

Technically, Federal labor laws deal with employer-union relationships and Federal employment laws deal with employer-employee relationships.

But the terms are often used interchangeably. This section includes research resources for both, even though it more often refers to Federal labor laws .

When researching whether or not your employer committed a wrongdoing under a Federal labor law, it's important to know that employment is at will in virtually all states.

It's also important to know that your employee rights are protected only under specific, corresponding state or Federal labor laws, regulations or constitutional provisions, or by sound morality or public policy .

For example, if your boss is a jerk who generally treats you poorly on the job, your bad boss is not necessarily violating a labor law, however unfair or unethical his or her behavior might be. That's because there is no bad-boss Federal labor law per se. Additionally, your ... Read more »

Adultery laws differ from state to state and can leave a person confused about their situation and the legal recourse available to them. Below are five of the top adultery and infidelity questions answered by Family Lawyers.

Adultery for the most part is not a crime and is not considered a criminal offense in most states. However each state may differ on statutes and criminal laws. In the few states that adultery is illegal or still considered a crime, the offense is often deemed a petty crime or misdemeanor and usually only inflicts light fines. To know state specific statutes relating to adultery legalities, it's best to ask an Expert.

Throughout American history, numerous drinking laws have been passed in order to regulate the use of alcohol in society. From restricting alcohol completely in the past to mandating who is legally permitted to consume alcoholic beverages today, these laws are intended to protect U.S. citizens from the dangers that often accompany excessive alcohol use—and lawmakers are under constant pressure to pass tougher and tougher drinking and driving laws. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious criminal offense in all 50 states.

The exact laws regarding alcohol use vary based on the state and jurisdiction. In many areas, local statutes limit when and where alcohol can be sold. For example, while alcohol may only be purchased during specified hours in one location, it may be available 24 hours a day in another county or city. Likewise, in areas where the sale of alcohol is prohibited on certain days (usually Sundays), res ... Read more »

#Grad School: Still Worth the Money?

Harvard Business School Baker Library 2009 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The recent economic downturn has sparked a media frenzy over the value of graduate school. Pundits and young professionals alike are wondering if grad school is still worth the hefty investment. Law school, in particular, has been maligned by everyone from The New York Times to independent bloggers, who use anecdotal evidence to question the job prospects for future graduates.

Business school has also not escaped the fray. While there have certainly been isolated cases of law and business school graduates having trouble finding jobs (this trend is limited primarily to graduates from less well-ranked schools), graduate school is still undoubtedly a “slam dunk” investment for nearly all potential applicants. The costs of business and law school may be substantial, but the significant, lifelong returns justify the investment for the vast majority ... Read more »

If this sounds like you, as your repertoire has grown, it's highly likely one or more of those songs has sparked something extra-special inside you. Hofstra Law School, based in Hempstead, NY, is one of many different law schools that feed into the New York City market. Currently ranked 100 by US News and World Report, the school enjoys a better reputation than some of its peers (NYLS, Touro, etc.). However, that being said, risk-averse applicants might want to think twice about attending without significant scholarship money. The school's claim of a median post-graduate salary of $160,000 is suspect, especially in the currently struggling economy. Academics and facilities at the school are slightly lacking, and the school's tuition for full-time students is quite high at $41,780 per year. If you factor in the expensive cost of living near New York City (the ABA estimates that students will spend over $20,000 per year on living expenses alone at Hofstra), students can spend over $60,000 per year for their degree.

As mentioned above, Hofstra's tuition is expensive. Full-time students end up paying $49,780 per year in tuit ... Read more »

    #Personal Injury Law.

    Guide to Tort Law

    What is Personal Injury Law?

Personal injury law refers to the legal remedies and defenses involved in civil lawsuits brought as a result of wrongful conduct. In fact, the word tort comes from a Latin term meaning twist, wrong, or harm. In contrast to criminal law, a tort action does not involve the government prosecuting the wrongdoer. Rather, these cases involve a private plaintiff seeking compensation (usually money) for the harm caused by the defendants actions.

Most personal injury cases are based on the doctrine of negligence. In essence, negligence requires every member of society to act responsibly and avoid putting others at risk. That is not to say that negligence will result each time someone gets hurt. The doctrine recognizes that some accidents are unavoidable. To establish liability, the plaintiff must show that a reasonably prudent person in the defendants position would have acted different ... Read more »

    #Graduate Jobs in Law

There are many career paths in law, although students most commonly become either Solicitors or Barristers.

If you work as a solicitor you may find yourself working for a law firm, but you might work in central or local government, an in-house legal department (for example, a bank or corporation), the Crown Prosecution Service or the magistrates' courts.

A career as a solicitor will demand several qualities of you:

    • intellectual ability
    • versatility
    • people skills / a desire to work with and for people
    • commitment

If you want to become a solicitor you should weigh up carefully the cost of training that's required to complete the qualification process. A number of funding options are available to you although students are by no means guaranteed to receive any form of financial assistance.

#Guernsey s current Mental Health Law

This order can only be brought about once a patient is an in-patient of the mental health services. It is usually the Consultant Psychiatrist who recommends the order, although the Consultant is not actively involved in implementing the order. Two GPs, one of whom should be the person's own GP (the other from another practice) each interview the person, and then sign a form giving their recommendations. A responsible relative, or a Constable of the Parish, must then also see the person and sign 2 forms. Those 4 forms are then sent to HM Procurer who will ratify the order.

Certification is effective for up to one year. At any time during that year, the Consultant may discharge the person from hospital. The order can therefore be rescinded. Sometimes however, the order is left in place following discharge from hospital. If the person then later becomes unwell again, then they can be brought back into hospital under the order.

#What qualifications do I need to get into Stanford Law School?

Aside from a few requirements (i.e. a bachelor s degree), there s not a single set of qualifications that will necessarily get you in. Instead, the Dean of Admissions will holistically evaluate several pieces in your application. The best answer I can give is that to qualify to get into Stanford Law School, you have to have the right fit with the school. This holds true at most other law schools in the country.

Law schools will ask for a few things in an application, each presumably providing information that the school weighs in making an admission decision. Stanford, and most other law schools, will request all post-secondary transcripts, an LSAT score, a resume, two or more letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. The transcripts and LSAT scores allow schools to objectively evaluate each student relative to the pool of applicants. The LSAT purports to evaluate an applicants logic, argumentative, ... Select a Link:

The Guide to Law Online is an annotated compendium of Internet links; a portal of Internet sources of interest to legal researchers. Although the Guide is selective, inclusion of a site by no means constitutes endorsement by the Law Library of Congress.

In compiling this list, emphasis wherever possible has been on sites offering the full texts of laws, regulations, and court decisions, along with commentary from lawyers writing primarily for other lawyers. Materials related to law and government that were written by or for lay persons also have been included, as have government sites that provide even quite general information about themselves or their agencies.

There are a number of different ranking systems for the Australian MBA programs including listings in the global world MBA rankings and other domestic rankings with a local approach. Most of these involve an analysis of various components relating to a mixture of objective factors such as business school metrics and graduate outcomes and also more subjective factors relating to the student experience. However there is an ongoing problem in determining which is the top MBA in Australia or even the best Australian MBA because of the metrics used and how the criteria for assessment relates to a prospective student's particular requirements in pursuing this form of postgraduate business studies.

The Australian MBA programs provided by AGSM and MBA have been the only Australian entries listed over previous years and have both been dropping from once being in the top 50 to now only remaining in the top 100. However things have changed in 2015 with Macquarie entering the top 100 fo ... Read more »

To what extent is labour law an autonomous field of study? This book is based upon the papers written by a group of leading international scholars on this theme, delivered at a conference to mark Professor Mark Freedland's retirement from his teaching fellowship in Oxford. The chapters explore the boundaries and connections between labour law and other legal disciplines such as company law, competition law, contract law and public law; labour law and legal methodologies such as reflexive governance and comparative law and labour law and other disciplines such as ethics, economics and political philosophy. In so doing, it represents a cross-section of the most sophisticated current work at the cutting edge of labour law theory.

Matters that civil attorneys deal with include breaches of contract, warranty violations, personal injury, invasions of privacy, negligence, medical practice and wrongful death.

Civil attorneys begin their education by obtaining a bachelor's degree, typically in a humanities-related field like English or political science. After graduation, students attend three years of law school.

Once finished with law school, civil attorneys take the bar exam in their respective states in order to independently practice law.

    #Harassment laws

Harassment is a form of employment discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, (ADA).

Harassment is unwelcome conduct that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. Harassment becomes unlawful where 1) enduring the offensive conduct becomes a condition of continued employment, or 2) the conduct is severe or pervasive enough to create a work environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive. Anti-discrimination laws also prohibit harassment against individuals in retaliation for filing a discrimination charge, testifying, or participating in any way in an investigation, proceeding, or lawsuit under these laws; or opposing employment practices that they reasonably believe discriminate against individua ... As an employee in Indiana, it's important that you understand your rights. Here are a few of the various federal and state laws that protect you at every employment stage from hiring to firing.

Anti-discrimination laws require that employers only consider factors related to a person's ability to do the job that's being offered. This applies when employers are posting help wanted ads, when interviewing, and and when choosing between candidates. They may not consider or even ask about things like your marital status, age, nationality or sexual orientation.

Federal law sets a minimum wage that employers must pay most workers in almost every industry. It also requires that employers pay overtime at the rate of 1.5 times base pay to employees who work more than forty hours in a week. Indiana law largely mirrors the federal guidelines and applies to all companies with at least two employees.

You have a right to work in an environment that's not likely to endanger y ... Read more »
