#What is Canon Law?

C anon law is the name for the Catholic Church's order and discipline, structures, rules, and procedures. The Catholic Church has two Codes: one for the Latin Church and one for the Eastern Catholic Churches.

What is a code? A code is a single collection of all the laws of a community in one place, promulgated by a legislator. A code is intended to be consistent, systematic, and logical.

The universal legislator of the Catholic Church is the Pope; the official language of canon law is Latin. Canon law is a tool to guide the Church as a large human institution from differing cultures and languages. In short, canon law informs the community on how to conduct themselves and protects the rights of the faithful.

Law is not new to the Church. The people of the Old Testament were very familiar with law, as the Torah ruled many parts of their lives. With the emergence of Christianity, the New Testament became a guide for the young Christian comm ... Read more »

While seemingly an obvious question that anyone interested in applying to business school should know the answer to, it can be surprising when asked by highly-skilled, talented professionals, intent on discovering the many benefits which MBA programs can bring.

What is an MBA?

MBA programs, short for Masters of Business Administration are renowned because of their career and salary enhancing benefits for alumni. Like a stamp of accreditation, employers know that any job applicant boasting an MBA is well versed in all that is business management.

However, while the outcome and results of graduating from an MBA are well-known, there is still a great deal of confusion over what an MBA program is.

So what is an MBA exactly? Traditionally, an MBA is considered to give an overview of management practi ... Read more »

It is illegal in Florida to spread cremated ashes near or on public lands. This regulation includes public parks, city streets, town squares, monuments and other such areas where the public has a legal right to visit. However, this regulation does not apply to national parks in Florida, and it often is possible to get permission to spread ashes there.

Although it is not illegal in all cases to scatter ashes on private property, you must get the permission of the property owner. Florida law also requires that the ceremony be completed in a way that is discreet and sensitive to others. Private property includes many sporting arenas, theaters and private parks.

#Mendel - s First Law: The Law of Segregation - Video - Lesson Transcript

Mendel's Experiments

Austrian monk Gregor Mendel studied pea plant genetics in the 1800s

Gregor Mendel was an Austrian monk who studied pea plant genetics in the 1800s. Mendel's experiments provided quantitative data, which would eventually revolutionize the understanding of the inheritance of traits. Unfortunately for poor Mendel, his findings were largely ignored until 1900, when the observation of meiosis helped scientists realize the significance of Mendel's experiments.

Mendel's laws helped explain chromosome-based inheritance of traits. Mendel is also credited with identifying the concept of dominant and recessive traits. We've already seen how a dominant trait affected Adrian's flying hamster experiment.

Now we're going to examine Mendel's first law of inheritance. also known as Mendel's law of segregation. It states that, ' the all ... Read more »

#Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice is when a doctor makes a mistake that causes you or a loved one serious harm. Legally, medical malpractice has occurred when a doctor fails to comply with a reasonable standard of care. When someone who is not a doctor makes a mistake, he or she is often said to have acted negligently. Malpractice is simply negligence applied to healthcare professionals. Tragically, a doctor’s mistake can have severe, or even deadly, consequences for a trusting patient.

According to a study released in 2013 from the Journal of Patient Study, as many as 440,000 people die every year from preventable medical errors.  This makes medical mistakes the 3rd leading cause of death in America, behind heart disease and cancer.

In Michigan, a patient has the right to file a lawsuit against any physician or hospital, which may have committed malpractice. However, the filing requirements for a malpractice lawsuit are lengthy and complicated. Thes ... Read more »

#Mendel - s Law of Segregation

Mendel s Law of Segregation states that a diploid organism passes a randomly selected allele for a trait to its offspring, such that the offspring receives one allele from each parent.

Equal Segregation of Alleles

Observing that true-breeding pea plants with contrasting traits gave rise to F1 generations that all expressed the dominant trait and F2 generations that expressed the dominant and recessive traits in a 3:1 ratio, Mendel proposed the law of segregation. The law of segregation states that each individual that is a diploid has a pair of alleles (copy) for a particular trait. Each parent passes an allele at random to their offspring resulting in a diploid organism. The allele that contains the dominant trait determines the phenotype of the offspring. In essence, the law states that copies of genes separate or segregate so that each gamete receives only one allele.

#Megan s Law Resources by State

Megan's Law is the common term for state laws that create and maintain a sex offender registry that makes information on registered sex offenders available to the public. The first Megan's Law appeared after the rape and murder of seven year-old New Jersey resident Megan Kanka by a sex offender who lived in the girl's neighborhood. Soon after the passage of this first Megan's Law, the federal government implemented requirement that all states establish sex offender registries and provide the public with information about the registered offenders.

While each state's version of Megan's Law differs slightly, they all require some form of sex offender registration and community notification. The information that states typically collect about the sex offenders includes: the offender's name, address, picture and the nature of their crime. States publish this information on freely available web sites that the public can query in many different way. ... Read more »

Mental Health Law:

Overview

Most professional groups (nurses, architects, accountants, etc.) are subject to various laws which affect the way these professionals practice. Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals are no exception to this.

In this section, various relevant sections of law relating to psychiatric practice will be reviewed and summarized, with links to appropriate legislation and additional information. It is important to realize that mental disorder, and the mental health laws relating to it, apply not only the individual who suffers from the mental illness, but also those who provide care and support such as family and friends when they attempt to get the treatment they feel is required for their loved one. Obviously, the reverse also applies, in that an untreated mentally ill person will likely have a major effect on those that are close to them and w ... Read more »

History of the Law and Federal Facts

Sexually based crimes strike at the very core of the human spirit. In the wake of sexual violence are scarred victims, shattered lives, disrupted families and frightened communities. Media accounts of previously convicted sexual offenders committing new violent sexual assaults have become commonplace. A new approach to dealing with the offender and protecting citizens was in order.

FEDERAL FACTS

The genesis for this new approach was guided by four Federal acts. They are named after the victims of violent/sexual assaults. These are the victims' stories:

In July 1981, Adam Walsh, age 6, was watching other children play videogames in a Florida department store while his mother shopped in another area of the store less than 75 feet away. In October 1989, Jacob Wetterling, age 11, bicycled home from a store with his brother and a friend ... Read more »

#Mexico has its own immigration problem: American retirees - The Washington Post

Cancun in 2009. (The Washington Post)

President Obama's decision to defer the deportation of more than 4 million illegal immigrants  will have a significant impact on one nationality in particular: Mexicans, who make up the vast majority of undocumented workers in the United States.

However, while immigration between the two neighbors is often portrayed as a one-way street, in reality the relationship is more nuanced. Not only does the U.S. economy rely on many undocumented workers, Mexico has had its own problems with illegal immigration. Sometimes, they are U.S. citizens.

It's estimated that 1 million or so American citizens live in Mexico. many of them retirees who head south of the border to enjoy the warm weather, great food and lower cost of living. These retirees are generally welcomed (they bring with them economic benefits), and Mexico has a visa for such peopl ... Read more »

In Tennessee, the police have several responsibilities towards victims of domestic violence. If possible, they must transport the victim to safety. They are also required to refer the victim to local services such as domestic violence shelters and provide him with a written statement informing him of his rights. The police also must let the victim know that the alleged offender may be allowed to post bail following arraignment.

When Tennessee police arrive at the scene of domestic violence, they must arrest the primary aggressor--the person who acted violently towards others in the domicile. In many cases, two or more people involved in the incident have injuries or acted violently. In these cases, the police must determine who is the primary aggressor. If both people are equally responsible for the incident or the police cannot determine who acted violently first, they may elect to arrest all parties or decline to make an arrest at all. The UCMJ applies to all active-duty, reservist, national guard, and retired military personnel.

States use official lotteries to raise revenue for schools and other shared public resources. These are primarily games of chance, which don't require any specific skills or knowledge, such as scratch-off tickets and games where numbers are drawn at random. Ohio state lottery laws were enacted in 1973, after a voter-approved constitutional amendment created the Ohio Lottery Commission.

The first lottery tickets went on sale that next year. Ohio joined the popular, multi-state Mega Millions lottery game in 2002. In 2005, the Ohio Lottery began administering and monitoring the licensing of bingo games for charitable causes.

As with many other states that run an official lottery, Ohio uses the proceeds from its lottery primarily to fund public education (lawmakers earmarked lottery profits for education in 1983). Now, roughly 4 percent of Ohio's education funding comes from the state lottery, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission's website .

Law services provided by these organizations include; criminal justice, civil law and juvenile delinquency law. Find these community organizations on the internet by searching for public legal aid , state legal aid or free legal assistance in your city or use a telephone directory.

"Senate Bill 1070 ( 57 KB) was signed into law on April 23, , and establishes a statewide policy to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States.

Back in Dallas, after we unloaded the U-Haul, Aubrey, a very organized young lady, began the initial arranging of her room. We gathered up her desired foodstuffs and headed to the checkout and then this happened.

There was a young man doing the checkout and another Walmart employee came over and put up a sign, No alcohol products in this lane.” So being the inquisitive fella I am, I used my additional set of eyes ... Read more »
