Brooklyn Law School in the heart of New York City gives its students both a wide range of courses to choose from and an excellent chance at landing coveted positions in NYC firms. It is known for its public service law programs and is currently ranked 61st by the U.S. News and World Report. tied with Lewis Clark College, University of San Diego, and Villanova University.

In addition to the application, applicants must submit:

Transfer applicants to Brooklyn Law should generally have qualifications that would have made them competitive candidates during the regular admissions process and carry at least a 3.0 average at their current law school; applications will be accepted until August 1 for fall admission and January 2 for spring admission. Interested students should submit the application as well as the following:

• Essay discussing reasons for transfer request
• Official law school transcript
• Certification of good standing from current dean, including class rank
• One or more letters of evaluation from law school faculty (recommended, not mandatory)
• Copy of LSDAS report

In order to earn a Juris Doctor degree, a Brooklyn Law student must earn 86 credit hours; in addition to the first-year curriculum below, degree candidates must also complete an upper-level writing requirement and Professional Responsibility course. For more detailed information, see Our Academic Program .

The required first-year curriculum includes Contracts, Criminal Law, Property, Torts, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Legal Writing.

Brooklyn Law offers several dual degree programs. including the J.D./M.B.A. J.D./M.S. in City and Regional Planning, and the J.D./M.A. in Political Science.

Brooklyn Law offers both semester and summer study abroad opportunities in countries such as Germany, England, Italy, and China.

Brooklyn Law has four student-edited law journals. Brooklyn Law Review. Journal of Law and Policy. Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial Commercial Law and Brooklyn Journal of International Law.

Along with many student organizations. the law school also has centers for specific legal interests such as The Daniel J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law and the Center for Law, Language and Cognition.

A majority of Brooklyn Law students take the New York Bar Exam and, in 2007, achieved an 84.5% pass rate. The overall pass rate for the New York Bar Exam was 77%.

From the 2007 graduating class, 97% of graduates were employed nine months after graduation. Fifty-seven percent went to law firms, 18% accepted government positions, 12% entered the corporate world, 6% accepted judicial clerkships, 6% pursued public interest careers, and 1% entered academia.

The average starting salary for Brooklyn Law grads in the private sector was $104,000 and $50,000 in the public sector.
