#Juris Doctor Applicants

Thank you for your interest in joining the Yale Law School community!

We are looking for students who will excel, both while they're here and throughout their careers. We make this determination by assessing all of the information available about each applicant; no one factor, such as GPA or LSAT score, is conclusive.

First-Year Applicants

In recent years, Yale Law School has received approximately 2,800 applications for the 200 spots in the first-year class. Though the process is competitive, we read each application carefully and encourage you to submit yours for consideration.

When to Apply

In 2014-2015, we will begin accepting applications on October 1, 2014. and the deadline will be February 28, 2015. It is your responsibility to make sure that all items arrive at Yale in a timely fashion. Most applicants will receive a final response by the end of April.

  • To find out when our application is available, and for updates and announcements throughout the admissions cycle, follow us on Twitter .

Please note that under our unique review process. there is no advantage. in terms of the likelihood of admission, to applying earlier in the cycle. Candidates who apply in early autumn, however, are likely (although not guaranteed) to receive a decision earlier. Candidates who apply just before the deadline, or whose required materials are submitted late, run the risk of receiving decisions very late in the spring.

How to Apply

We require all first-year applicants to the J.D. program to register for the Law School Admissions Council's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and to submit their applications through the electronic application service that is included with a CAS subscription. Please note that it may take several weeks for LSAC to process your materials.

Applicants who are unable to access the electronic application available from LSAC may obtain an application form and instructions by writing to the Yale Law School Office of Admissions at P.O. Box 208215, New Haven, CT 06520-8215 or at admissions.law@yale.edu.

Transfer Applicants

If you are interested in applying as a J.D. transfer student, please visit our transfer applicant page for relevant deadlines and an application form.
