#J. D. Student Central Dear Students, Welcome to the Transactional Law Program's Web pages. I became the director of the Transactional Law Program in July 2012 after retiring as a partner in the Boston office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher Flom LLP, where I practiced in the firm s mergers acquisitions department for almost 30 years. The principal goal of the Transactional Law Program is to provide a solid foundation of essential practice skills to students seeking a career in transactional practice and to those who will need these skills at some point in their careers, regardless of the specific area of legal practice they pursue. We seek to bridge the gap between what students learn in traditional law school classes and the skills they need when they enter the legal practice arena. The growth and success of the Transactional Law Program including the Program s expanding course offerings and the Transactional Practice Concentration reflects BU Law s unwavering commitment to provide its students with the highest quality legal education, including the practical skills they will need as they embark on careers in a highly competitive and rapidly changing legal marketplace. The Transactional Law Program s courses are open to 2Ls and 3Ls generally, whether or not they are pursuing the Transactional Practice Concentration. In addition to these course offerings, the Transactional Law Program also spearheads BU Law s participation in the annual Transactional LawMeet , the premier regional and national competition for students interested in a transactional practice. Feel free to browse through these pages to learn more about the Transactional Law Program, available courses, and curriculum updates as we continue to develop and refine our offerings. And don t hesitate to contact me (kcoit@bu.edu ) or Assistant Director Karen Carter (carterkb@bu.edu ) if you have questions or wish to discuss any aspect of the Program. Kent A. Coit Professor of the Practice of Law Director, Transactional Law Program
