#An Online Law Degree: Is It For Me?

What is it really like?

So you're looking at getting an online law degree to see if they might be for you instead of "normal" law school.

Get Top Grades in Law School

there are only California registered programs!

I hope to rectify the lack of good information on online legal programs with this site.

Is an online law degree for me?

The answer to this question depends largely on why you want to go to law school.

My short conclusion, based on my own independent research and interactions with actual online law students is that short answer is that online law degrees are not for most people at the moment. I strongly suspect this could change over time, even over the next couple of years.

At the moment I think that online law schools are for a very particular kind of person, one who is:

#Animated Traffic Law

Welcome to AnimatedTrafficLaw .org.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing traffic-related injury and death by challenging driver assumptions about traffic law.

In other words, we take abstract statutory and regulatory requirements and develop memorable, understandable and enjoyable visual equivalents. We take your clay and give you back a pot.

Why Traffic Law? It s the road user s guide to survival.

Assumptions are the legs of behavior. When on the road they take us in front of cars we believe will yield, past pedestrians we think will wait, in front of bicyclists we know should stop. We assume what we believe is correct. But is it?

False assumptions about traffic laws is why ATLC is building a feedback loop in which road users can find needed answers to traffic law questions. We hope our efforts help clear up your con ... Read more »

#Anti-apartheid heroes urge Cameron not to repeal Human Rights Act

Some of South Africa’s most influential intellectuals and activists have urged David Cameron to reconsider his plans to repeal the Human Rights Act. warning that the move is reminiscent of the mindset that created apartheid.

In a letter to the Observer, 25 of the country’s most eminent playwrights, lawyers, politicians and artists say that more than two decades after the British people spoke out against apartheid in South Africa, it was their turn to reciprocate with support for a country that is in danger of betraying that honourable history .

Their intervention is timed to coincide with Mandela Day. the second since the anti-apartheid hero’s death. The signatories describe their “horror” at Cameron’s desire to replace the act with a British bill of rights. Britain’s role in challenging apartheid, they said, meant they had a duty to intervene on behalf of the British people.

Roman law is the legal system of ancient Rome. The development of Roman law covers more than one thousand years from the law of the twelve tables (from 449 BC ) to the Corpus Juris Civilis of Emperor Justinian I (around 530 ). Roman law as preserved in Justinian's codes became the basis of legal practice in the Byzantine Empire and later in continental Europe .

Using the term Roman law in a broader sense, one may say that Roman law is not only the legal system of ancient Rome but the law that was applied throughout most of Europe until the end of the 18th century. In some countries like Germany the practical application of Roman law lasted even longer. For these reasons, many modern civil law systems in Europe and elsewhere are heavily influenced by Roman law. This is especially true in the field of private law. Even the English and North American Common law owes some debt to Roman law although Roman law exercised much less influence on the English legal ... Read more »

#Annual Program Planning

Your Annual Troop Program Plan = Satisfied Boy Scouts and families = A lifelong love of Scouting!

Dear Committee Chair, Scoutmaster, and Senior Patrol Leader:

Let's talk about one of the key elements of all successful troops and an indicator of a potentially successful year. Of course that would be the troop's annual program plan and planning conference.

Research conducted by Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana, showed that a common element of strong troops is they all have a good annual program planned a year in advance that is then shared with all families in the form of a calendar. The important result of a shared annual program calendar is that your troop will attract more families and Boy Scouts will stay involved longer.

Two other key elements of successful troops identified in that study were training and having just the right leader to start with.

Here's how a troop program planning conference works. A month ... Read more »

Hofstra University (School of Law)

Hofstra Law School was founded 35 years ago with a unique vision. It would be a law school that would train students not just to think like lawyers, but to act like lawyers. That meant teaching students not just doctrine and analysis, but the skills used to practice law in the real world: how to strategize with and advise a client, how to examine a hostile witness, how to think through an ethical dilemma. Hofstra was one of the first schools in the country to embrace clinical education, where students represent real clients under close faculty supervision, and built an enviable reputation as a school that trained real trial lawyers.

That vision has stayed with us through the years, though it has broadened to encompass the skills of commercial practice as well as litigation. So our list of more than two dozen "skills courses" now includes offerings like Transactional Lawyering, Business Drafting and Complex Corporate Transacti ... Read more »

#Antitrust Laws And You

Many consumers have never heard of antitrust laws, but enforcement of these laws saves consumers millions and even billions of dollars a year. The Federal Government enforces three major Federal antitrust laws, and most states also have their own. Essentially, these laws prohibit business practices that unreasonably deprive consumers of the benefits of competition, resulting in higher prices for products and services.

The three major Federal antitrust laws are:

  • The Sherman Antitrust Act
  • The Clayton Act
  • The Federal Trade Commission Act.

The following information on these laws comes from the Antitrust Enforcement and the Consumer guide.

The Sherman Antitrust Act

This Act outlaws all contracts, combinations, and conspiracies that unreasonably restrain interstate and foreign trade. This includes agreements among competitors to fix prices, rig bids, and allocate customers, which are puni ... Read more »

#Antitrust laws

Antitrust: An Overview

Trusts and monopolies are concentrations of economic power in the hands of a few. Economists believe that such control injures both individuals and the public because it leads to anticompetitive practices in an effort to obtain or maintain total control. Anticompetitive practices then lead to price controls and diminished individual initiative. These results in turn cause markets to stagnate and depress economic growth.

Because of fears during the late 1800s that monopolies dominated America's free market economy, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890 to combat anticompetitive practices, reduce market domination by individual corporations, and preserve unfettered competition as the rule of trade. The Sherman Antitrust Act forms the foundation and the basis for most federal antitrust litigation.

As for the states, many have adopted antitrust laws that parallel the Sherman Antitrust Act to prevent anticompet ... Read more »

#Antimatter haze found in thundercloud, and the laws of physics can’t explain it

Six years ago, atmospheric physicist, Joseph Dwyer, accidentally flew his plane into a thundercloud, and right through an unexpected pocket of antimatter. And while we know high-energy positrons - the antimatter counterpart of the electron - can be caused by cosmic rays making contact with the atmosphere, or by particularly active lightning storms, what Dwyer detected could not be explained by either of these scenarios.

"This was so strange that we sat on this observation for several years," Dwyer, from the University of New Hampshire in the US, told Davide Castelvecchi at Nature.

The flight in question took place on 21 August 2009, when Dwyer, then at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida, set out to detect gamma rays (γ-rays) - extremely high-frequency electromagnetic radiation made up of high-energy photons. He installed a particle detector on a Gulfstrea ... Read more »
