That which derives its force and authority from the universal consent and immemorial practice of the people. The system of jurisprudence that originated in England and which was latter adopted in the U.S. that is based on precedent instead of statutory laws.

Traditional law of an area or region; also known as case law. The law created by judges when deciding individual disputes or cases. The body of law which includes both the unwritten law of England and the statutes passed before the settlement of the United States.

In Old England there were two types of Courts - law and equity. In the law court the Judge applied statutes. As time went on situations that were not covered by statutes were uncovered and Judges 'created' law, usually in equity. This is 'common law.'

LANSING Two metro Detroit community colleges say they are ready to offer bachelor's degrees in nursing. All they need is permission.

Schoolcraft College in Livonia and Henry Ford College in Dearborn are among the leaders championing an effort in Lansing to allow Michigan's two-year schools to award bachelor's degrees in more fields, something now limited to four-year universities.

Both schools support Senate Bill 98, which is pending in that chamber and would authorize community colleges to award bachelor's degrees in nursing and four other technical fields.

Offering a tropical setting and some outstanding academic programs, the Stetson University School of Law is a diamond in the rough. It is still a low-ranking, regional institution however, and students should be aware of the limitations that come with a Stetson Law degree.

In an op-ed at TheHill.com titled "Sexism in cyberspace ," Clark called on the US Department of Justice to "intensify their efforts to investigate and prosecute the federal laws that criminalize the worst" cases of abusive speech perpetuated online.

Troubled by minority students' dismal failure rate on the California Bar examination, the UCLA Law School faculty has voted to toughen its graduation standards and improve the school's academic support systems.

The changes, which were approved at a meeting of the faculty Friday evening, were adamantly opposed by various student organizations on the grounds that such changes would reduce minority groups' chances of entering and graduating from the Law School.

According to an umbrella protest group that calls itself "the Diversity Coalition," the changes were made abruptly, "without student input. and shortly before Law School finals," thus making it difficult for most students to participate in what the students said are "drastic changes" in some of the school's fundamental policies and programs.

The concerns of elders and the concerns of their caregivers typically coincide—quality of life, quality of care, wellbeing of the primary caregiver (ordinarily a spouse or family member), and wellbeing of loved ones, including pets.

The contract of employment is the agreement between employer and employee which governs the relationship between both parties.

It need not be in writing and can be implied from the surrounding circumstances. A written contract can comprise one short handwritten page or a lengthy document following detailed negotiations. Most contracts fall somewhere in between.
