#Continuing Legal Education and Programming No Cost CLE ProgrammingAs a service to its alumni, Nebraska Law, in partnership with the student organizations, offers multiple continuing legal education opportunities to all alumni. These programs are typically held over the lunch hour. Because programming develops throughout the course of the semester, registration is exclusively online and alumni are encouraged to check this website routinely as programs are added continuously throughout the semester. Non-alumni may also register for these programs at a cost of $20, payable at the door. Trademark Basics: What Every Small Business Should Know Now, Not Later By: Craig Morris, Managing Attorney in the Trademark Educational Outreach office of the US Patent Trademark Office Wednesday, September 23, 2015 (12:00pm – 1:00pm) College of Law Auditorium Approved for 1 CLE credit hour Mr. Morris' talk will cover these topics: - how trademarks, copyrights, patents, domain names, and business name registrations all differ. - why it is important for any new business to select a trademark that will be both federally registrable and legally protectable, highlighting factors critical when choosing a mark. - the importance of doing a complete search and whether an attorney should be used. - what may happen if another trademark owner believes it has stronger rights in a mark and issues a "cease-and-desist" letter. - information on what the USPTO does in the federal registration process and how to avoid "scams" perpetrated by companies that request fees for services not required by the USPTO.
