W hen Sandra Beatty goes somewhere and does something, it’s because she really wants to – five years after losing her vision and both her feet to diabetes, any errand is an ordeal. So when on 31 October, with the help of her 31-year-old daughter, she got out of her first-floor apartment, and climbed into the passenger seat of her friend’s Chevrolet Tahoe, it was because she planned to do one of what she considers her most important tasks: going to vote.

It was not until weeks later, when Beatty got a call from the nonprofit Southern Coalition for Social Justice that she learned her ballot had been thrown out.

“It hurt. It hurt because I thought I was doing something. I – I thought I was making some kind of progress and doing something. And it didn’t count,” Beatty said.

A federal jury has awarded a black New York woman $280,000 after her manager, who is also black, repeatedly used the word nigger to refer to her during a conversation about unprofessional behaviour.

Rob Carmona, who runs the Strive East Harlem employment agency, was recorded using the language to Brandi Johnson, who said she was left feeling degraded and disrespected .

The case has raised questions over the use of offensive language among different ethnic groups. During the hearing Carmona said that he had used nigger as a term of endearment and argued that the term has multiple contexts in black and Latino communities, sometimes indicating anger, sometimes love.

Illustrating his case, Carmona said he might put an arm round a friend and say: This is my nigger for 30 years.

Medhurst appeared unapologetic, suggesting that the Black family had never tried very hard to keep it a secret. Yes, the gender of the spouse is not a factor in receiving spousal; a husband can get spousal support from his wife if she is higher earner. Receiving spousal support depends on meeting the family code 4320 factors, and qualifying for support; these factors will include the respective income of the parties, their ability to find work, etc. Just because a man is asking for support, it does not mean there is a prejudice against him. He is just as entitled to ask, and realistically when you put an initial petition or response, it is highly usual for either party to ask for spousal support. Whether one gets it or not, the court will decide, however it never hurts to ask, and one should.

For individuals wishing to set up a business in Hong Kong they must first choose a company name in order to differentiate themselves from other registered companies. However, as simple as this may sound, there are restrictions on what company name you can use. For example a company cannot register a name that already appears in the Registrar's index of company names or the same as that of a body corporate incorporated under the Ordinance. Federal immigration law determines whether a person is an alien, the rights, duties, and obligations associated with being an alien in the United States, and how aliens gain residence or citizenship within the United States. It also provides the means by which certain aliens can become legally naturalized citizens with full rights of citizenship. Immigration law serves as a gatekeeper for the nation's border, determining who may enter, how long they may stay, and when they must leave.

Congress has complete authority over immigration. Presidential power does not extend beyond refugee policy. Except for questions regarding aliens' constitutional rights, the courts have generally found the immigration issue as nonjusticiable .

Before a lender (beneficiary) can foreclose on a home – whether through a judicial (circuit court) or nonjudicial (advertisement and sale) process – it must first offer a face-to-face meeting (resolution conference) with the homeowner (grantor) to attempt to avoid foreclosure when the instrument securing the loan is a residential trust deed. Homeowners at risk of foreclosure may also request a meeting. Homeowners are at risk when they are more than 30 days in default on their loan payment or when a government-approved housing counselor believes the homeowners have a qualifying financial hardship. Lenders and homeowners must request the meeting in writing through the service provider the attorney general has identified. A facilitator will represent the service provider at the meeting. Breaks and meal period regulations apply to employees and employers covered by the Colorado Minimum Wage Order Number 31.  For individuals covered under Colorado Minimum Wage Order, the following rules apply.

Meal Periods

Employees shall be entitled to an uninterrupted and 'duty free' meal period of at least a thirty minute duration when the scheduled work shift exceeds five consecutive hours of work. The employees must be completely relieved of all duties and permitted to pursue personal activities to qualify as a non-work,uncompensated period of time. When the nature of the business activity or other circumstances exist that makes an uninterrupted meal period impractical, the employee shall be permitted to consume an “on-duty” meal while performing duties. Employees shall be permitted to fully consume a meal of choice “on the job” and be fully compensated for the “on-duty” meal period without any loss of time or compensation.
