Questions About Abortion

Must my boyfriend or partner give his permission?

No. Your partner s permission is not required for you to get an abortion. Whilst many women want the involvement and support of their partners, for others this is not necessary or appropriate.

Must my parents give their permission?

Women under 16 may have an abortion, without parental involvement, if the doctor believes the young woman is mature enough to consent to the procedure she is requesting. Medical staff use the Fraser Guidelines to assess competency.

In most cases however, young women do decide to involve a parent or other responsible adult. Whilst many parents are initially shocked or upset for their daughter, most do offer their support.

What sort of people have abortions?

Women of all ages and from all backgrounds access abortion, for a wide and complex range of reasons. Abortion is a common medical proced ... Read more »

Employment protection laws are the set of rules and regulations that regulate the dismissal of workers. Employment protection laws come into play whenever an employer fires or lays off a worker. Of the countries belonging to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, the United States has the least strict employment protection laws. In spite of this, the United States does have a number of employment protection laws on the books.

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) was passed in 1994. The law is employment protection legislation aimed at protecting individuals who serve or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or any other one of the "uniformed services." The various provisions of the law are designed to benefit the aforementioned individuals in three main ways.

First, USERRA mandates that former or current service members are to not be disadvantaged in their civilian careers ... Read more »

A federal law is a law passed by the United States government. or federal government. Federal laws are supreme over state laws (only in the case of the enumerated powers. states are able to pass laws concerning all other matters).

Federal laws start as bills in one of either the House of Representatives or Senate. For bills starting in the House, the bill goes through committee, where it is refined, then passed on to the House Rules Committee in which parameters are set for its debate on the House floor. Once there, it is debated, then voted upon.

If passed, the bill then enters the Senate, where it passes through committee, then to the floor. In the Senate, filibusters may be used to defeat the bill. If 60 Senators vote for cloture. a filibusteer must cease, and speaking is limited to an hour per Senator. After this time limit expires, the bill is voted upon.

If passed, the bill enters a conference committee composed of members from the relevant House ... Read more »

Through its constitutionally-granted powers. the United States Congress considers thousands of bills each session. Yet, only a small percentage of them will ever reach the top of the president s desk for final approval or veto. Along their way to the White House, bills traverse a maze of committees and subcommittees. debates, and amendments in both chambers of Congress.

For a complete explanation, see. How Our Laws Are Made (Library of Congress) Revised and Updated by Charles W. Johnson, Parliamentarian, United States House of Representatives.

Step 1: Introduction

Only a member of Congress (House or Senate) can introduce the bill for consideration. The Representative or Senator who introduces the bill becomes its sponsor. Other legislators who support the bill or work on its preparation can ask to be listed as co-sponsors. Important bills usually have several co-sponsors.

Four basic types of legislation, all commonly referred to as bi ... Read more »

Pharma Sales Interview Tips

The movie Love and Other Drugs, based on the true story of a Viagra salesman in the 1990s, made pharmaceutical sales jobs seem like an easy road to riches with a low bar of entry.

Those days are long gone. The field is much more competitive now, and companies look for pharmaceutical sales reps -- sometimes called managed-care liaisons -- with scientific backgrounds and experience at competing companies, according to Steven Y. Raz, managing partner of Cornerstone Search Group, a pharmaceutical and biotech recruiter based in Parsippany, New Jersey. Companies are being pickier now because then can be, and more often they want pharma sales reps who have biology or medical backgrounds and can easily speak peer-to-peer with docto ... Read more »

The Death of George Reeves - the Original Superman

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet? No!

On June 16, 1959, George Reeves gave millions of children worldwide firm evidence of why it's important to separate fantasy from reality. because on that day, in the world of make-believe, Superman was not faster than a speeding bullet. But in reality it was the day that George Reeves was discovered in the wee morning hours, on his bed with a bullet to the temple. Apparently self-inflicted. Although the official police report would list Reeves' death as a suicide, his mother insisted her young, happy son was incapable of killing himself. To this day, there are three possible scenarios that explain the death of George Reeves.

Born George Keefer Brewer in 1914 in Woolstock, Iowa to Helen Lescher and Don C. Brewer, ... Read more »

#ask science questions #

The answers to good scientific questions over the years have lead to important discoveries. Scientists are particularly good at developing simple, yet elegent, questions that can be tested. Then, in a perfect world, scientists, engineers, architects, and other people use the knowledge gained from the answers to these questions to make life on Earth better. (Sadly this isn't always the case!)

Good questions are stated in a way that frame, or describes, a problem, and are able to be tested using accepted scientific methods.

There are 3 main types of Questions. Each asks, or requires, a different type and amount of prior knowledge and build until the researcher creates an Experimental question.

1. Verification questions. These are basic data collecting questions. They are useful in building knowledge.

Examples are: Is it cold today? Is the sun still out? Is a flame hottest when it is blue?

2. Significant/Theory questi ... Read more »

May the Force Be with You

The F. the m and the a in Newton's formula are very important concepts in mechanics. The F is force. a push or pull exerted on an object. The m is mass. a measure of how much matter is in an object. And the a is acceleration, which describes how an object's velocity changes over time. Velocity. which is similar to speed, is the distance an object travels in a certain amount of time.

Let's restate Newton's first law in everyday terms:

An object at rest will stay at rest, forever, as long as nothing pushes or pulls on it. An object in motion will stay in motion, traveling in a straight line, forever, until something pushes or pulls on it.

Physicists use the term inertia to describe this tendency of an object to resist a change in its motion. The Lati ... Read more »

Criminal justice bachelor's programs include courses that address ethical issues, police and society, correction and society, and crime control policy. Most courses provide general education in criminal justice, preparing students for work in a number of positions, including police, courts and correctional facilities. In addition, some criminal justice programs specialize in law enforcement for prospective police officers and federal agents and include courses like police report writing, firearms and precision driving.

Crime scene investigators, or CSIs, and scientists in laboratories of law enforcement agencies must hold a bachelor's or master's degree in forensic science, a term that applies to a broad range of sciences applied to analyze evidence. Forensic science professionals are only involved in obtaining information from evidence, so this degree is not a passport to all kinds of law enforcement positions, but it is a requirement if you want to be a CSI.
