#Questions to ask your doctor

Introduction

From feedback to our service, we have found that some people with epilepsy have found it useful to have a list of questions to ask their doctor. For some people this might be their family doctor or epilepsy specialist. For others, it might be an epilepsy specialist nurse.

In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline makes recommendations about diagnosing and treating people with epilepsy. NICE recommends you should have a meeting with a health professional, a doctor or nurse, at least once a year. This applies whether or not you are experiencing any particular problems. It is an opportunity to make sure that you are getting the best treatment for your epilepsy. The SIGN Guidelines make the same recommendations for people in Scotland.

#Pros and cons of online law school

October 14, 2009 by Editors

As a third-year law student who has given 15 hours of my life a week for the past two years to sitting in a classroom, I’m a little biased when it comes to evaluating online law schools. I can’t help but feel that actually being face-to-face with other students and professors is essential for the study of law, and moreover, for preparation to practice.

I had the misfortune of needing to take some online classes to graduate from college on time, and I have to say, the experience of analyzing British Literature alone and not discussing it with anyone didn’t teach me well, anything, about British Literature. I find it difficult to believe that studying the law solo would yield different results.

Below, I list some of the pros and (the many) cons to learning the law over the Internet.

#Questions to Consider

Choosing the right homecare agency for yourself or a loved one is an important task. Here are some questions to ask when considering a home health provider:

  • Are the caregivers employed by the provider and supervised by the provider's Clinical Directors?
  • Does the provider perform criminal background checks on caregivers prior to hiring?
  • Are the caregivers covered by Workers' Compensation in the event they are injured on the job?
  • Is the provider responsible for deducting State, Federal, Local, and Social Security taxes from the caregivers' wages?
  • Does the provider send a Registered Nurse to meet the family and develop a plan of care for the caregivers to follow?
  • Once assigned, are caregivers regularly supervised and ev ... Read more »

#Announcing the Total Tax Insights Calculator

Offered by the CPA profession to give taxpayers a clearer picture of the types and number of taxes they pay, the Total Tax Insights calculator is the first comprehensive tax calculator that estimates a person s tax obligation based on place of residence across the country. It s customized for each state, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and has more than 20 of the most widely levied taxes.

Taxpayers can access the calculator at totaltaxinsights.org and enter minimal information to get started. The calculator then delivers a comprehensive view of one s estimated annual tax obligation and a number of key insights, including increased awareness of the need for financial planning. The Total Tax Insights calculator provides an approximation not an exact amount of what users pay in taxes. It is not a tax preparation tool or a substitute for the expert tax and financial advice of a CPA.

Pennsylvania recently enacted its first law regarding breastfeeding exempting breastfeeding from criminal laws, and giving women “permission,” but not the “right,” to breastfeed.

    35 P.S. § 636.2 et seq.  (2007)

    35 P.S. § 636.2.  Declaration of policy

The General Assembly finds that breastfeeding a baby is an important and basic act of nurturing that must be protected in the interests of maternal and child health and family values.

    § 636.3.  General rule

A mother shall be permitted to breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be present, irrespective of whether or not the mother s breast is covered during or incidental to the breastfeeding.

    § 636.4.  Freedom to breastfeed

The act of breastfeeding shall not be considered:

    #Probability Problems

The Orderly Pursuit of Pure Disorder.

    Discover, January, 1981

American Heritage Dictionary defines Probability Theory as the branch of Mathematics that studies the likelihood of occurrence of random events in order to predict the behavior of defined systems. (Of course What Is Random? is a question that is not all that simple to answer.)

Starting with this definition, it would (probably :-) be right to conclude that the Probability Theory. being a branch of Mathematics, is an exact, deductive science that studies uncertain quantities related to random events. This might seem to be a strange marriage of mathematical certainty and uncertainty of randomness. On a second thought, though, most people will agree that a newly conceived baby has a 50-50 chance (exact but ... Read more »

    #evaluation questions

    #Frequently Asked Questions

    What is program evaluation?

Program evaluation is the systematic assessment of the processes and/or outcomes of a program with the intent of furthering its development and improvement. As such, it is a collaborative process in which evaluators work closely with program staff to craft and implement an evaluation design that is responsive to the needs of the program. For example, during program implementation, evaluators can provide formative evaluation findings so that program staff can make immediate, data-based decisions about program implementation and delivery. In addition, evaluators can, towards the end of a program or upon its completion, provide cumulative and summative evaluation findings, often required by funding agencies and used to make decisions about program continuation or expansion.

How is evaluation different than research?

Evaluators use many of the same qualitative and quantit ... Read more »

#Maxwell School Career Development: International Law

International Law is an interdisciplinary academic field for students who are interested in cross-border issues such as international business and human rights. To practice International Law, it is essential to first develop your legal knowledge and skills. Increasingly, international lawyers are specializing in at least one other area by combining a focused master’s degree that supplements their legal skills. While a J.D. and an international degree cannot guarantee work that is global in nature, the combination will give you a leg up when such jobs develop within an organization. Additionally, it is beneficial to be proficient in at least one other language and to have overseas experience.

For every job in international law, analytical ability, research and writing skills, and the knowledge of the basic differences in the world’s legal systems as well as their political and cultural contexts is essential.

How does HIPAA serve to protect patient rightsI

HIPPA is there to protect the rights of patients that need help or service, so that their information is not shared with anyone else but whom they give consent, or agree to let someone else know their history or information. HIPPA protects the client’s rights so therefore, their information is not public and it is against the law for their information to be shared or put in public.

What areas of the JSBMHA did HIPAA compliance impact?

It affected the client’s rights that their personal information would not be shared with anyone. In addition, the patient confidentiality act was misused in this situation.

Welcome to the University of Chicago Law School. I welcome you from a perspective of considerable personal experience. I was a student here myself (from 1968 to 1971) and I have been a member of the faculty since 1973. Chicago is, quite simply, a most remarkable institution.

What is unique about us? We have a small and very select faculty and student body. This allows for great accessibility and interaction, which we prize. The very design of the building is intended to foster student-faculty contact. Unlike most law schools, where faculty offices are located in a separate and distinct part of the building, faculty offices at Chicago are on the perimeter of the library, so students and faculty run into each other constantly. We take a deep interest in our students and we take pride in their achievements, both while they are here and in the years and decades to ... Read more »
