In the United States, a divorce can impact a family-based immigration petition in different ways, depending on the type of the immigration petition you're filing and when your divorce is final -- before you file the petition, during the decision process or after immigration relief has been granted.

Most family-based immigration petitions require that you submit Form I-130, which establishes the relationship between the petitioner -- the U.S. citizen -- and the applicant, the person who is applying for immigration. They might be parent-child, siblings or spouses. If the applicant has been divorced, you must submit a copy of the divorce decree or decrees, along with an English translation if the original is written in another language. If a U.S. citizen's son is filing a petition for his parents, but the parents currently are divorced, then he must submit proof of the divorce. The son cannot send just a copy of his birth certificate to establish the parent-child relationship. ... Read more »

In addition to following the rules set out by the Fair Labor Standards Act, Michigan employers must comply with state labor laws. Michigan's state minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum wage, although it allows a sub-minimum wage for minor employees. Nonexempt employees are entitled to overtime, but not paid time off for vacation or sick days.

The state minimum wage for nonexempt employees in Michigan is currently $8.15 per hour and is slated to increase to $8.50 per hour in 2016. In accordance with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, nonexempt employees must be paid time-and-a-half overtime rates for any hours worked in excess of 40 per week. Salaried, nonexempt employees aren't entitled to overtime pay rates.

    #About Us

ASK is a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to supporting families and improving the system of care for children’s mental health. Through collaboration with families and community partners, we hope to guide this system toward becoming more family-driven, youth-guided, and culturally competent.

We believe that the best support comes from someone who has ‘been there’, and who can personally relate to the obstacles, frustrations, joys and celebrations that go along with raising a child with mood, emotional, or behavioral challenges. As parents of children with mood, behavior, and emotional disorders themselves, our Family Support Partners draw from personal experience and perspective to empower families.

    Our History:

In 2004, when a group of individuals with ties to the local chapter of the Michigan Association for Children with Emotional Disorders (MACED) decided they’d like local control over policies and fundraising, they ... Read more »

    #Music and Fair Use

What you can legally do with it a work under copyright protection and how you may use it is called Fair Use.

Copyright law is written to encourage the growth of knowledge while at the same time protecting those who further the growth of knowledge. You use a book to gain knowledge; an author publishes a book to earn money. You would not purchase a book if you could not use the information in the book, but an author could not publish a book if he could not earn money for his time and effort. Fair Use is the concept within the copyright law which weighs the delicate balance between use and protection.

Fair Use is not a set of laws or rules, but a defense to copyright infringement based on the following criteria:
Purpose of the use - commercial or private Nature of the work Amount and substance of the portion you use compared to the entire work as a whole Effect of the us ... Read more »

Lauded as one of the most intellectual law schools in the country with one of the most acclaimed faculties, the University of Chicago Law School has long been rooted as one of the true elites. Located in Hyde Park, just south of the heart of Chicago, the school affords its students ready access to one of the country's most prominent legal markets, but some distance from its hustle and bustle.

"One of the strongest selling points of Chicago is its intellectual institutional culture-the expectation that we're all here to think and argue and learn and take ideas seriously," said professor Brian Leiter, a scholar of and philosophy and the author of a popular law school blog. "That's true of the faculty and it's true of the students, and there's a sense that the faculty and the students should be doing this together."

Chicago Law's relatively small class size and strong focus on academics fosters a close-knit learning community, students say. Though the school can get a b ... Read more »

    #types of questions

#Any hiring manager worth his salt will make these types of queries.

    Arnie Fertig

In any job face-to-face interview, you might encounter several different types of questions:

    1. Straightforward questions. A hiring manager is most apt to talk about the role and specific tasks that must be performed, and then ask: Tell me how your background prepares you to do the job.

TIP. Wherever possible, draw parallels to the work that needs to be done, and what you have done in a previous or current job. Explain how the job you're interviewing for calls for the skills and experiences you possess.

    2. Behavioral questions. Interviewers are predisposed to believe that how you acted in the past is a good predictor of how you will act in the future. Describe a time when you confronted [insert some difficult problem or situation here]. is a typical way for these kinds of questions to begin. The ... Read more »

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) Getting New York wines and liquors to other parts of the United States could soon get easier, if Governor Cuomo approves a new measure.

#Interviewing Applicants? What Employers Can’t Ask in Interviews

By Tiffani L. McDonough on July 14, 2014 Posted in Hiring

If you are the interviewer, there actually is such a thing as a stupid (and perhaps unlawful) question in an interview. The key to developing appropriate interview questions that are both useful in obtaining relevant information and also legal is to train those involved in the interview process. Participants in the interview process, regardless of whether they are decisionmakers, should fully understand what information should not be solicited during telephone screens or interviews of applicants. Even the most cautious employers, however, may face litigation from a disgruntled applicant who believes that he or she was treated unfairly in the hiring process. #Johnson: Grammar

    Hard questions, not easy answers

    Mar 4th 2015, 17:38 by R.L.G. | BERLIN

TODAY is National Grammar Day in America. (It really should be International Grammar Day, but Johnson’s urging on this point has been unheeded.) It was founded by a group called the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar, and though the society itself seems to have last updated its website in 2012, Grammar Day has outlived it. Many will celebrate by venting about their most hated grammar mistakes: Poynter.org asks, typically, "What are your biggest grammar pet peeves? "

This column, instead, will celebrate some of grammar’s more curious corners. Grammar is not a list of do’s and don’ts, but a description of the rules of a lang ... Read more »

#New domestic violence law will outlaw coercive control

Theresa May expected to unveil plans to put psychological and emotional abuse on a par with domestic violence

A new law on domestic violence, making it illegal for someone to exercise coercive control over their partner, will be unveiled by the Government this week.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, is expected to announce new powers allowing the police to prosecute those who are guilty of psychological and emotional abuse.

It means for the first time men who control their partners through threats or by restricting their personal or financial freedom, could face prison in the same way as those who are violent towards them.

Campaigners have long called for a change in the law to put psychological exploitation on a par with physical violence, in the hope it will encourage more victims to come forward and report abuse in the home.

According to the charity, Women s Aid, only 6.5 per cent of ... Read more »

    #New immigration laws

We didn’t raise the Statue of Liberty with her back to the world, we did it with her light shining as a beacon to the world. And whether we were Irish or Italians or Germans crossing the Atlantic, or Japanese or Chinese crossing the Pacific; whether we crossed the Rio Grande or flew here from all over the world generations of immigrants have made this country into what it is. It’s what makes us special.

    President Obama, November 21, 2014

America’s immigration system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers, and there are 11 million people living in the shadows. Neither is good for the economy or the country. President Obama is eager to work with both the House and the Senate on a comprehensive solution to immigration reform, similar to the bipartisan legislation that passed the Senate in 2013.

President Obama’s push for legislation to fix our broken immigration system garnered broad bipartisan supp ... Read more »

#New UK immigration rules: will you be affected?

Non-EU migrants who have spent more than five years working in the country will be required to earn 35,000 per year or else face deportation, according to a policy that comes into effect in April next year. The policy, announced in 2012 by the home secretary Theresa May, has been criticised this week by the Royal College of Nursing. It predicted chaos in the health service, and urged the Home Office to add nursing to the list of occupations exempt from the rules and reconsider the salary threshold.

But nurses won’t be the only people affected by the changes. Migration figures published in May reveal migration for work from outside Europe rose by 24,000 to 68,000 in 2014, with nearly all coming on skilled work visas. 35,000 is a salary that won’t affect those working in finance or, for the most part, IT, but there are many other sectors with workers who will be forced to leave when the pay threshold comes into force.

This patient isn’t usually mine, but today I’m covering for my partner in our family-practice office, so he has been slipped into my schedule.

Reading his chart, I have an ominous feeling that this visit won’t be simple.

A tall, lanky man with an air of quiet dignity, he is 88. His legs are swollen, and merely talking makes him short of breath.

He suffers from both congestive heart failure and renal failure. It’s a medical Catch-22: When one condition is treated and gets better, the other condition gets worse. His past year has been an endless cycle of medication adjustments car ... Read more »

#New law benefits Florida gun clubs - Washington Times

By SUSAN JACOBSON - Associated Press - Saturday, July 18, 2015

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Florida firearms enthusiasts will save a few dollars starting this month because of a new law that eliminates the sales tax on gun club memberships.

The change, which state records show will cost $1.2 million annually, was advocated by the National Rifle Association.

Marion Hammer, a Florida lobbyist and past president of the NRA, said the group became aware in 2010 that the state Department of Revenue had stepped up its collection of sales tax on gun club memberships. The Tallahassee Rifle & Pistol Club was hit with a bill for $20,000 in back taxes, she said.

So when clubs have to start borrowing money to pay taxes they didn t know they owed that are being illegally imposed, then what s going on? Hammer asked.

The department at the time denied it had accelerated enforcement.

The NRA contends that ... Read more »

April kicks off national STD Awareness month. I know it doesn t sound like much fun, but neither does Syphillis.

In conjunction with the national effort to raise awareness of the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases across college campuses (1 in 4 young women have them!), CollegeCandy will be having our very own STD awareness day on Thursday, April 2nd.

We have invited experts in the field to share their knowledge and experience with us in hopes that we can prevent the spread of these diseases and protect ourselves.

There is so much that young women don t know about STDs how they spread, how they can affect our health, if we have them . so we thought we d bring in a doctor to answer everything.
