#Social Security
social security law: an overview
Social security is designed, as the title suggests, to provide security. To protect individuals from unforeseen catastrophes, the government spreads certain risks among all members of society so that no single family bears the full burden of such occurrences.
In the United States, the Social Security Program was created in 1935 (42 U.S.C. 301 et seq . ) to provide old age, survivors, and disability insurance benefits to workers and their families. Unlike welfare. social security benefits are paid to an individual or his or her family at least in part on the basis of that person's employment record and prior contributions to the system. The program is administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and since 1965 it has included health insurance benefits under the Medicare program. While the original act used Social Security in a broad sense and included federally funded welfare programs and unemploy

#Slander legal definition of slander
slander
n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed. Slander is a civil wrong (tort) and can be the basis for a lawsuit. Damages (payoff for worth) for slander may be limited to actual (special) damages unless there is malicious intent, since such damages are usually difficult to specify and harder to prove. Some statements such as an untrue accusation of having committed a crime, having a loathsome disease, or being unable to perform one's occupation are treated as slander per se since the harm and malice are obvious, and therefore usually result in general and even punitive damage recovery by the person harmed. Words spoken over the air on television or radio are treated as libel (written defamation) and not slander on the theory that broadcasting reaches a large audience as much if not more than printed publications. #So That Was Law - Order - s GamerGate Episode
When Law Order: SVU takes on video games, the results are usually not pretty. Tonight's episode—a GamerGate special—was no exception.
They're playing a game, Ice-T's character says at one point, referencing a group of misogynistic terrorists who have kidnapped a female video game developer. We've gotta play too.
If just reading that line made you cringe, you probably don't want to watch this episode, which is simultaneously horrific (said game developer is beaten and held at gunpoint) and embarrassing (at one point, a character calls people FALs, an acronym that Ice-T says stands for Fails At Life ).
It's corny, terrifying shlock that demonizes hardcore gamers and turns complicated conversations over misogyny in gaming into a cartoon caricature of good vs. evil. Even as SVU's writers imagined up a terrifying, totally feasible kidnapping scenario, they just

Becoming a valuable employee takes time, dedication, and a strong will to succeed not to mention, a plan. A valuable employee stands out from the pack, regardless of how coworkers feel about them. They have a goal in mind, and they don t let outside influences hinder their plan to achieve that goal.

The foreclosure process varies somewhat from state to state, and depends primarily on whether the state uses mortgages or deeds of trust for the purchase of real property. Generally, states that use mortgages conduct judicial foreclosures; states that use deeds of trust conduct non-judicial foreclosures. The principal difference between the two is that the judicial procedure requires court action on a foreclosed home.
The below table represents our current knowledge of which states use mortgages (judicial) or deeds of trust (non-judicial) or both. The table also includes estimated foreclosure timelines for each state. Please check with your local county government to verify this information. Inform us of any errors at info@realtytrac.com.

#Standing Committee on the Law of Patents - SCP.
The SCP was created in 1998 to serve as a forum to discuss issues, facilitate coordination and provide guidance concerning the progressive international development of patent law. By dealing with clusters of interlocking issues rather than working in isolation on single issues, it is intended to provide member states with an effective mechanism for setting priorities and allocating resources, and ensure the coordination and continuity of interrelated, on-going work.
History
1998-2000
Recent developments
Since the negotiations on the draft Substantive Patent Law Treaty (SPLT) were put on hold in 2006, the main focus of the work of the SCP has been on building a technical and legal resource base from which to hold informed discussions in order to develop a work program. Therefore, a series of documents elaborating various aspects of patent law were produced and discussed at the subsequent sessions

#State Foreclosure Laws - Summaries and Legal Reseach Information.

The foreclosure process in each state is governed, in large part, by that state’s foreclosure laws. Each state’s foreclosure law is different. By reviewing your state’s foreclosure law, you can find out:
- how much notice you are entitled to before your home is sold in a foreclosure
- how much notice you are entitled to before you are evicted after a foreclosure sale
- how much time you have to reinstate or redeem your mortgage after a default (if your state provides such rights)
- whether your lender can sue you for a deficiency judgment and if so, under what conditions, and
- what special protections you are entitled to if you have a high-cost mortgage (one with a much higher interest rate than normal).

#St Luke s founder resigns
The founder of St Luke's, the mould-breaking advertising agency, has resigned after criticising the company for becoming too conservative under new management.
Andy Law, who has won plaudits for his innovative approach to business, said he had gone as far as he could with the agency. He will leave St Luke's immediately, along with deputy chairman and co-founder Kate Stanners, after a dispute over strategy developed into a bitter boardroom battle.
St Luke's was at its most successful when it was at its most radical, and the challenge is to keep that innovative streak going, he said.
It's got all the component parts for success but it is a case of whether it retreats from innovation or pursues it. Essentially, the piggy bank has now been depleted and in the meantime there were lots of missed opportunities to exploit the brand.
St Luke's was one of the industry's brightest stars in the 1990s, attracting major-league clients

#Statutory Law.
Statutory Law is the term used to define written laws, usually enacted by a legislative body. Statutory laws vary from regulatory or administrative laws that are passed by executive agencies, and common law, or the law created by prior court decisions.
Unlike common law, which is subject to interpretation in its application by the court, statutory laws are generally strictly construed by courts. Strict construction means that courts are generally not able to read between the liens of a statute in order to liberalize its application. Rather, they will be bound by its express terms.
As legislative enactments, statutory laws follow the usual process of legislation. A bill is proposed in the legislature and voted upon. If approved, it passes to the executive branch (either a governor at the state level or the president at the federal level). If the executive signs the bill it passes into law as a statute. If the executive fails or refuses to sign

#STATES THAT RECOGNIZE COMMON LAW MARRIAGE
By: Susan Price, Senior Attorney
You asked how many states recognize common law marriage and the basic standards for forming them.
With some differences, 15 states and the District of Columbia recognize some form of common law marriage either by statute or court ruling. Nine of these place restrictions on relationships they will consider as the equivalent of marriage. The most common is refusing to recognize common law relationships formed after a specific date.
The two basic elements couples generally must establish are cohabitation and holding themselves out to the world as a married couple. Evidence sufficient to satisfy the holding out prong include the woman adopting her spouse ' s last name, filing joint state or federal tax returns, or referring to themselves as husband and wife.
Table 1 below shows the states and any restrictions they place on common law marriage recognition.

#Strict Liability: Dog-Bite Statutes
More than half the states have statutes that make dog owners liable if their dogs cause injury.
More than half the states make dog owners liable if their dogs cause injury, whether or not the owner had reason to think the dog was dangerous. Although commonly called dog-bite statutes, many of these state laws cover all kinds of dog-inflicted injuries, not just bites. They are called "strict liability" statutes because they impose liability without fault—that is, an injured person does not have to prove that the dog owner did anything wrong. (In other states, the "one-bite rule " applies.)
The theory behind these laws is that anyone who has a dog should be responsible for any damage it causes, period. It doesn't matter that the owner was careful with the dog, or didn't know it would hurt anyone, or tried to keep it from injuring anyone.

#What Is the Car Seat or Booster Seat Law in Arizona?
By Judy Hedding. Phoenix Expert
Judy Hedding became a resident of the Phoenix metropolitan area in 1979. Since her move to Arizona, she's lived in several different communities: Phoenix (two different neighborhoods), Tempe, Mesa and Chandler (two different neighborhoods). The Valley of the Sun -- the moniker by which the Greater Phoenix area is widely known -- is huge, and Judy has watched this uncomplicated western town morph into one of largest metropolitan areas in the country.
On August 2, 2012 the existing Arizona car seat law covering children up to five years old changed, additionally requiring that children ages 5 through 7 (younger than 8) and 4 9 or shorter must ride in a vehicle in a booster seat. #Study of the Post Grant Procedures Is Needed Now.
The procedures created by the America Invents Act (AIA) for challenging patents at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) have now been in place for a couple of years. These procedures include: Inter Partes Review (IPR); Post Grant Review (PGR) and Covered Business Methods (CBM). As of June 2015, over 3500 petitions had been filed for the combined procedures. The numbers are way above what the Office expected, but the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) has been churning through the petitions at a rapid rate. The new methods for challenging patents are statutorily required to be completed within a year of institution in most cases, so we are beginning to collect data and discern patterns from those settled or decided cases.
We are seeing that when the claims are considered individually, the PTAB is instituting the procedures 70% of the time and that once instituted, most claims will not survive the procedur

#Supreme Court Strikes Down Unconstitutional ‘Three Strikes’ Law
The controversial “three strikes” law has come before the Supreme Court no less than five times in past seven years.
The court justices has now decided that the constitutionality of the law needs to be weighed in on.
Justice Antonin Scalia explained the court’s decision to declare the provision unconstitutional, noting that there is nothing in place that would ensure this law would be carried out fairly or in an nondiscriminatory manner.
Scalia wrote, for the 8-1 majority, that “it has been said that the life of the law is experience. Nine years’ experience trying to derive meaning from the residual clause convinces us that we have embarked upon a failed enterprise.”
Samuel Alito, argued a dissenting opinion, saying that the man in the case before them – Samuel James Johnson – was a violent offender who should be punished severely.
Both Justices Kennedy and Thomas agreed with th

#Ask Jeeves
Business
Ask Jeeves a.k.a. Ask.com is a question answering-focused web search engine founded in 1995 by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California. The original software was implemented by Gary Chevsky from his own design. Warthen, Chevsky, Justin Grant, and others built the early AskJeeves.com website around that core engine. In late 2010, facing insurmountable competition from Google, the company outsourced its web search technology and returned to its roots as a question and answer site. Douglas Leeds was elevated from president to CEO in 2010.

# I have a friend who constantly craves sugar even after she has eaten her regular meals. She craves ice cream and cookies (anything with sugar in it throughout the day). Is she lacking something in her diet? If so what is it?
This person has a high metabolism. She works out a couple of hours at the gym almost every day. She has been checked for diabetes and she doesn't have it. Any advice?
As for me, what causes cellulite? How do I get rid of it. I'm 5 foot 5 inches and weigh 125 pounds. I should not have cellulite.
People who crave sugar aren't lacking some nutrient (vitamin or mineral). Sweets often are accompanies by fat. but sweets are not long lasting sources of energy (4 hours to absorb into body). You say she eats sugar during the day. If so how frequently? Between meals and at mealtime? Does she eat other foods like meats, vegetables, fruits and milk as well as complex carbohydrates like grains? Does she eat in front of other people

Exponents are short forms used to represent a set of repeated factors.
$3^<6>$ is used to represent 3 multiplied to itself six times. i.e 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3. In $3^<6>$, the number 3 is called the Base and the number 6 is called the exponent or power.
The exponent is defined as a number which is used to represent the number of times a given number has to be multiplied by itself. Exponents could also be defined as the operation in raising a particular number to a power in multiplication and in which all the factors are equal.
The expression of 8 $^<3>$ means that three 8’s are to be multiplied with each other. Similarly, 6 $^<2>$ would mean 6 x 6. The relevant power of any particular number is the number by itself.
The power is defined as the number of times the number is to be taken as one of the factor. The method of finding a root is nothing but the inverse of raising a number to a power.

#Summary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act
Quick Links
The official text of OSHA is available in the United States Code on FDSys. from the US Government Printing Office
29 U.S.C. §651 et seq. (1970)
Congress passed the Occupational and Safety Health Act to ensure worker and workplace safety. Their goal was to make sure employers provide their workers a place of employment free from recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions.
In order to establish standards for workplace health and safety, the Act also created the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as the research institution for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor that oversees the administration of the Act and enforces standards in all 50 states.

Yeah, but how much do those FL law schools cost? I think money is a big reason someone might want to go to an online school. At $7,920.00 per year, it s affordable. Not to mention the fact that one can do it while working or while abroad.
Ok, I did some research on this. I hope it clears up the accreditation question.
Taft Law School is accredited through the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. This is the national accrediting body that accredits distance learning schools, allowing them to legally bestow degrees to their students. This accreditation body is 100% legitimate and recognized by the U.S. government. If you go to FAFSA.org, and type in Taft you will see Taft University System (of which Taft Law School is a part) show up. This is evidence that it is a legitimate, accredited schoo
