Federal labor law, namely the Fair Labor Standards Act. provides the minimum standards that employers in Alabama must adhere to. Many states enact laws that provide employees even greater protection and benefits than the FLSA does, such as requiring employers to give workers breaks. Alabama, however, isn't one of those states, and follows the federal law when it comes to employee breaks.
Under the FLSA, Alabama employers need not provide workers with any breaks whatsoever. When companies adopt policies that allow workers to take short breaks, it's within their discretion to change or revoke the policy, since there aren't any Alabama labor statutes that govern breaks. If an Alabama employer does allow its employees to take short breaks, generally between 5 and 20 minutes, the FLSA treats those breaks as hours worked -- meaning you continue getting paid while on a break. An Alabama employer can't dock an employee for those short breaks, if offered, without run

#MBA Students: Choose Your First Marketing Job Wisely

“What internship (or full-time) offer should I take?” “What’s the right first step now that I’m finishing up my MBA?”
The life of an MBA student is demanding. Managing the classwork and interviewing process today is much harder than when I was an MBA student. Outside of class, students must spend more time networking and preparing for the interview gauntlet to live up to the expectations of recruiters and compete effectively against impressive peers. You can have dozens of smart, talented, exceptional students vying for one or two coveted positions. It’s simply not easy.
However, what I’m noticing is that with all of the preparation to get the offer(s), there isn’t much time or energy left to think through what these first jobs mean to a 40-year career. Often times, when I ask students where they want to work, the response is: “On a brand I lo

#Medical marijuana is legal 23 states, but for kids it s controversial.
Some parents of severely ill children say that prescription drugs expose their kids to dangerous side effects. Some want to try medical marijuana, and they seek wider access to the drug in Michigan.
Story Highlights
Is marijuana safe and effective medicine for children? Experts say it is for some conditions. About two dozen states, including Michigan, allow the use of medical cannabis for seizure disorders. A state panel is to meet Mon. July 20, to decide if Michigan allows medical marijuana for autism. Some parents claim almost miraculous results for their autistic children, but research is scarce.

#Meme, Counter-meme
Meme, Counter-meme
By Mike Godwin
It was back in 1990 that I set out on a project in memetic engineering. The Nazi-comparison meme, I'd decided, had gotten out of hand - in countless Usenet newsgroups, in many conferences on the Well, and on every BBS that I frequented, the labeling of posters or their ideas as "similar to the Nazis" or "Hitler-like" was a recurrent and often predictable event. It was the kind of thing that made you wonder how debates had ever occurred without having that handy rhetorical hammer.
Not everyone saw the comparison to Nazis as a "meme" - most people on the Net, as elsewhere, had never heard of "memes" or "memetics." But now that we're living in an increasingly information-aware culture, it's time for that to change. And it's time for net.dwellers to make a conscious effort to control the kinds of memes they create or circulate.
A "meme," of course, is an idea that functions in a

Some precedents in international criminal law can be found in the time before the First World War. However, it was only after the war that a truly international criminal tribunal was envisaged to try perpetrators of crimes committed in this period. Thus, the Treaty of Versailles stated that an international tribunal was to be set up to try Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. In the event however, the Kaiser was granted asylum in the Netherlands. After the Second World War. the Allied powers set up an international tribunal to try not only war crimes. but crimes against humanity committed under the Nazi regime. The Nuremberg Tribunal held its first session on 20 November 1945 and pronounced judgments on 30 September / 1 October 1946. A similar tribunal was established for Japanese war crimes (The International Military Tribunal for the Far East ). It operated from 1946 to 1948.
After the beginning of the war in Bosnia. the United Nations Security Council established the Internation

Many federal employment laws such as workers compensation and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) apply to both permanent and temporary employees. If the temporary employee is contracted through an employment agency, either the company where the employee performs his services or the agency is responsible for providing workers compensation insurance. If it is not provided, the employee can sue for negligence.
Temporary employees may be eligible for healthcare or retirement benefits. Under federal law, employees who work more than 1,000 hours over a 12-month period must be included in any pension or retirement plans that the employer has available.
Additionally, company policy may dictate that temporary employees are eligible for benefits. Many companies offer benefits to employees who have worked for three consecutive months. If a temporary employee fits this criterion, then they too are eligible for benefits unless the company policy says otherwise.

#Mexican - Introduction - Immigration- Classroom Presentation
Teachers
Mexican immigrants, along with their Mexican American descendants, occupy a unique place in the story of U.S. immigration. They are known by many different names, come from divergent origins, and took widely different paths to becoming part of the United States.
Millions of people in the United States today identify themselves as Mexican immigrants or Mexican Americans. They are among both the oldest and newest inhabitants of the nation. Some Mexicans were already living in the Southern and Western regions of the North American continent centuries before the United States existed. Many more Mexicans came to the country during the 20th century, and Mexican immigrants continue to arrive today.
The multicultural inheritance of Mexican Americans is rich and complex. It reflects the influences of Spain, Mexico, and indigenous cultures, and has been shaped by hundreds of years of survival and

Continuing Legal Education
Generally, all States require that active attorneys obtain Continuing Legal Education (CLE) yearly. Inactive attorneys are not required to comply with CLE rules.
In most States, CLE Rules are adopted by the State Supreme Court (some called Superior Court). Those Rules establish an enforcement body, power of enforcement body, CLE mimimum requirements, exemptions, reporting requirements, procedure in the event of non-compliance, and reinstatement to active practive. A common yearly requirement is 12 hours of CLE, with 1-2 being on ethics.
Providers of CLE courses must obtain approval of each course from the governing body prior to presentation. CLE course materials are often written by attorneys practicing in the State the materials cover. Online CLE approval and credits are increasing, as more and more attorneys turn to the web to obtain compliance with their CLE requirements.

Mendel's Experiments
Austrian monk Gregor Mendel studied pea plant genetics in the 1800s
Gregor Mendel was an Austrian monk who studied pea plant genetics in the 1800s. Mendel's experiments provided quantitative data, which would eventually revolutionize the understanding of the inheritance of traits. Unfortunately for poor Mendel, his findings were largely ignored until 1900, when the observation of meiosis helped scientists realize the significance of Mendel's experiments.
Mendel's laws helped explain chromosome-based inheritance of traits. Mendel is also credited with identifying the concept of dominant and recessive traits. We've already seen how a dominant trait affected Adrian's flying hamster experiment.
Now we're going to examine Mendel's first law of inheritance. also known as Mendel's law of segregation. It states that, ' the all

It is worth pointing out that although the subject is markedly different and the requirements of a teacher somewhat removed, the fact is that a music teacher is still a teacher, and the panel will want to know that you are able to think like a teacher. Just as in PE teacher interviews. you need to show you have what it takes. Handling class discipline, teaching philosophy and other matters are as prominent in a music teacher’s role as in any other teaching job. Music teacher interview questions are, therefore, not especially different in the main from other secondary teacher interview questions – with the exception of the few specific music-related questions. A typical breakdown might go something like this.

#Mental Health
mental health law: an overview
Mental health and the law interact in numerous ways. The term "competence" signifies a legal conclusion that an individual is capable of entering into a binding contract. transferring assets, or participating in a legal proceeding. The provision of mental health services is regulated and, to some extent, publicly supported.
Legal standards surround the process by which those who are mentally ill can be forced, against their will, to receive treatment. Statutes for involuntary commitment whether denominated civil or criminal are subject to the due process clause of the 14th Amendment. This is because involuntary commitment severely infringes on a person's right to be free from governmental restraint and the right to not be confined unnecessarily. Courts have held that such statutes must bear some reasonable relation to the purpose for which the individual is committed.
Finally and most conspicuously, the crimina

Land Law is the form of law that deals with the rights to use, alienate, or exclude others from land.
Property is defined as the control by man over things or an appropriation of certain objects recognized by the society. Possessing property means having a 'right' and 'ownership' over it. Land is the primary property known to man since the beginning of the civilization.
Jurisprudents proposed various theories and kinds of Property, each of which give a different definition for the concept of property. Property can be acquired in many forms.

#What is Collaborative Law?
What is Collaborative Law?
by Maury D. Beaulier
Collaborative law is a new way to resolve disputes by removing the disputed matter from the litigious court room setting and treating the process as a way to trouble shoot and problem solve rather than to fight and win.
As part of the collaborative law method, both parties retain separate attorneys whose job it is to help them settle the dispute. No one may go to court. If that should occur, the collaborative law process terminates and both attorneys are disqualified from any further involvement in the case.
Each party in the Collaborative law process signs a contractual agreement which include the following terms:
Disclosure of Documents.
Each party agrees to honestly and openly disclose all documents and information relating to the issues. Neither spouse may take advantage of a miscalculation or an inadvertent mistake. Instead, such errors

#Military Law.
Military Law is founded on the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The UCMJ applies to all branches of the US military and governs most issues of legal concern for soldiers and others subject to the jurisdiction of US military courts. For example, the UCMJ covers the different types of court-martial, the apprehension and treatment of prisoners (both foreign and domestic), and the trial process for military tribunals. The UCMJ also covers the rules governing military jurisdiction, legal investigations, discharges from the service, the release and revision of military records, post-trial review procedures, and appellate procedures. The UCMJ applies to all active-duty, reservist, national guard, and retired military personnel.
The Laws of War (also known as juris in bello), on the other hand, refers to the international laws pertaining to acceptable justifications for nations to take military action against another and the limits of acceptab

#where to ask medical questions
#Medical Questions
Asking medical questions is necessary to solve health problems. Some categories of medical questions include hygiene, disease prevention, nutrition, alternative therapies, types of diseases, symptoms and diagnoses, medical specialties and health insurance. Medical questions also include scientific queries that need rigid clinical research.
Advancements in medicine are fuelled by the need to answer medical questions mainly for the purpose of seeking solutions to a wide range of medical-related problems, and physicians ask medical questions that are related to the diagnoses and treatments of patients. Patients, on the other hand, ask medical questions for the purpose of understanding their medical situations.
Both medical professionals and ordinary people seek answers to their medical questions from various sources. Opinions of experts or specialists, books and the internet are

Abandonment of a child is defined in Arizona Revised Statute Section 8-201(1) as failing to supervise or support a child with the intent to allow that neglect to go on for an indefinite time. If this form of neglect continues for a period of six months the statute presumes the parent has abandoned the child. (See Reference 1.) Arizona Revised Statute Sections 13-3619 and 13-3623 to provide that abandonment can be construed as a criminal offense, ranging from a class 1 misdemeanor to a class 2 felony, depending upon such factors as the risk to the child and whether or not the abandonment was intentional. Penalties range from a fine of $2,500 and 6 months in prison for a class 1 misdemeanor conviction, all the way up to 12.5 years in prison for a "non-dangerous" class 2 felony. (See Reference 2.)

As we gear up for the presidential debates tonight, it s worth reflecting on the presidential debates from exactly one hundred years ago.
Because the key issue debated then was how to handle the industrial monopolies of 1912: companies like Standard Oil and the American Tobacco Company. The incumbent (Howard Taft) campaigned on breaking up the monopolies; the opposing party (Woodrow Wilson) campaigned on regulating competition to prevent monopolies from developing in the first place; and the third-party campaigner (Teddy Roosevelt) argued we should actually welcome monopolies while regulating their activities. Wilson won, and ended up signing two major antitrust laws to su

#Moritz College of Law
Helpful Links
The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program is designed for foreign lawyers who wish to advance their legal education in a stimulating academic environment. The College offers the dual advantages of a highly-regarded law curriculum at a major U.S. university and an LL.M. program of limited size that allows for individualized attention and support.
Two of the program’s primary goals are to immerse foreign lawyers in a year of U.S. legal education and to foster interaction between American J.D. students and the LL.M. students. In large part this is accomplished by integrating the LL.M. students into the J.D. curriculum, ensuring that both groups will benefit from the interaction and graduate from their respective programs well prepared to participate in an increasingly globalized world.
Moritz also offers a rich selection of student activities outside the classroom where LL.M. students m
