The Indian Administrative Service (IAS ) is one of the most difficult to crack and sought after civil services examination. IAS is the door way to some of the most prestigious positions in the country.

Anyone who manages to ace the IAS exam opens the door to key positions in the Union Government, State governments and public-sector undertakings. But for that one needs to first overcome the first hurdle i.e. the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).

CSAT is the Civil Services Preliminary exam conducted by UPSC in order to screen eligible candidates for the Civil Services Mains exam, which if cleared successfully will help you land a job in the Civil Services. This year the Civil Services Preliminary exam is to be held on August 24, 2014.

Paper pattern:

General Studies Paper I - (200 marks)

Duration: Two hours

• Current events of national and international importance
• History of India and Indian National Movement
• Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
• Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights etc.
• Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
• General Science.
