#MBA - Law Full Time Degree Program: Full Time Program @ SMU Cox

This program has been established so that an individual may integrate his or her educational experience in law and business. Because management personnel and corporate attorneys have individual considerations and goals, by taking law and business courses simultaneously the student may achieve an understanding of commercial affairs from two different points of view.

Under the structure of the dual program, the Dedman School of Law will award twelve hours of academic credit toward the J.D. degree (87 hours) for satisfactory completion of the academic requirements of the MBA program. Similarly, Cox will award twelve hours of academic credit toward the MBA degree (60 hours) for satisfactory completion of the academic requirements of the JD program. A JD/MBA candidate will complete 75 law school hours and 48 business school hours for a total of 123 graduate credit hours. When a disparity occurs between the tuition rate of the School of Law and that of the Cox School, the tuition rate of the School of Law shall apply to courses taken from its curriculum.

To be admitted to the joint program, applicants must apply to both programs. Admission applications should be addressed to both the law school and the business school with the statement that they are for the JD/MBA program. The JD/MBA program is designed so that the combined degrees are received in four years. The program must be pursued on a full-time basis. Students enrolled in the joint-degree program must complete all performance, graduation, and non-credit-bearing requirements of the JD and MBA programs.
