The Law School

Birmingham Law School is regularly ranked amongst the top Law Schools in the UK and our research has been ranked seventh in the country for world-leading and international

The Program

Birmingham's Law programmes are designed to allow in-depth study of important legal topics, enabling you to develop significant expertise which will enhance your career prospects. You will be encouraged to demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how research techniques are used to create and interpret knowledge.

Our General LLM is ideal if you wish to gain Masters-level knowledge and skills without restricting yourself to just one particular branch of law. The programme provides one of the widest ranges of options in the UK with nearly 50 modules available, enabling you to create a unique degree tailored to your future career aspirations.

We also offer a number of LLM programmes looking at specific legal topics: Commercial Law; Criminal Law; Health, Bioethics and Law; International Commercial Law; and International Law: Crime, Justice and Human Rights.

All of our taught programmes follow the same structure:

- In part I of the programmes, you take six 20-credit modules; your module choices will depend upon the programme you decide to follow. Assessment in those modules, by essay or formal examination, is in May and June.

- In part II of the programmes, you research and write a 15,000-word dissertation on a selected topic of law under the supervision of a member of staff.

All of our modules are taught in small-group seminars, allowing equal opportunities for class interaction to all students.

Further details about the LLM programmes, including full module descriptions and student profiles, can be found online at www.birmingham.ac.uk/llm
