#Pre-Law Program
Pre-Law Program
Law School - is it for me?
Law school is very different than most undergraduate institutions. While law school students learn to become better thinkers, writers, and speakers, law school is not an extension of an undergraduate degree program.
Here are a few ways that law school differs from undergraduate education:
- Focus: Studies in law school will be more focused, all classes being law-related and including very few electives.
- Teaching Method: Many law schools utilize the Socratic Method, meaning students will be required to comprehend a large amount of information regarding legal cases and will be called upon regularly in the classroom. This case method is very effective at testing a student's ability to synthesize information and apply it to new situations.
- Grades: Grades are base

Just when someone thinks about starting a family, he or she is greeted by a lot of responsibilities and duties crucial, when it comes to the knowledge required to sustain a family. As the basic unit of society, starting and raising a family is no joke and one should not take this matter half-heartedly. Before someone even a starts a family, he or she is faced with the problem of finding a partner but it is not what we're here to talk about. Some issues inevitably strike a family through time and these may be complicated and hard for the members of the family, especially the parents or whoever the heads of the household are. Members of the family may consult close loved ones and relatives, but some problems might be too challenging and support from blood ties will not be enough. Some problems can only be addressed through legal aid. Matters of the heart and the bond of a family might not require such support but, matters about the rights of a same-sex couple getting married, laws reg

In Europe, each country is left to devise its own employment protection system, and each country has slightly different laws. France, for example, has a written Labor Code and other enforceable rights that protect employees from harmful situations, while the United Kingdom has no written labor law, but does hold specialist employment tribunals as part of their court system to help solve any employee's concerns. China requires the majority of the workforce to be under contract with employers, which makes it next to impossible for an employer to fire an employee; this form of employment law states that unless an employee has broken a rule or regulation, the contract must be upheld as stated. Also, to help avoid employees working too many hours, China does not usually have salary -paid employees, but instead generally offers only 40 hour work weeks, with paid over-time when necessary.

The first step of the eviction process in Kansas is the delivery to the tenant of what is called a three-day notice. The notice advises the tenant that she must correct a lease violation or vacate the premises within the three-day period of time set forth in the notice. For example, if the notice is provided because the tenant failed to pay rent, she must pay the rent due and owing within the three-day period or move out of the property. If the tenant fails to comply with the provisions of the three-day notice, the landlord has the legal right under Kansas law to pursue an eviction lawsuit.
The second phase of the eviction process in Kansas is a forcible detainer case. Forcible detainer is an eviction lawsuit in the state of Kansas. A forcible detainer case is filed in the county or district court in the county where the rental property is located. The case is filed pursuant to the provisions of the Kansas limited actions law, found at Kansas Statutes Annotated, Chapter 61.

Even if his opponents conceded that Abraham’s life was characterized primarily by faith, Paul knew that they still would have questions about why God gave the law to Israel about four centuries after Abraham. Did not the giving of the law nullify any previous arrangement?
What is the point of Paul’s analogy between a person’s final will and testament and God’s covenant with Abraham? Gal. 3:15–18 .
A covenant and a will are generally different. A covenant is typically a mutual agreement between two or more people, often called a “contract” or “treaty”; in contrast, a will is the declaration of a single person. The Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, never translates God’s covenant with Abraham with the Greek word used for mutual agreements or contracts (syntheke ). Instead, it uses the word for a testament or a will (diatheke ). Why? Probably because the translators recognized that God’s covenant

Ratings Rankings *
What do these ratings mean?
from Brian Dalton, Breaking Media Director of Research
The ATL School and Firm Insiders Survey asks self-identified current students, alumni, and practicing lawyers to rate major aspects of life at their law school (academics, social life, clinical training, career services, financial aid advising) and/or law firm (compensation, hours, morale, culture, training). We then translate these ratings into letter grades, where the mean score for each particular ratings category is the equivalent of a “B.”
We require a minimum threshold of responses for each institution before we publish any survey-based ratings content. Using a standard formula for statistical validity, we adhere to a threshold that gives us an 85% confidence level and a 10% margin of error. The precise threshold number will of course vary depending on the size of the individual institution.

#Prepare for an MBA Internship - US News
Participating in school competitions can prepare students for work, one expert says.
By January, some first-year MBA students have taken the first step in securing their careers as business leaders: They've accepted summer internship offers.
Employment is such a critical part of the b-school experience that an MBA program's career office usually starts working with first-year students before they arrive on campus and continues working with them — on resume writing, interviewing and other skills — after they find summer employment.
Once you accept an internship, the process doesn't stop, says Mark Brostoff of Washington University in St. Louis' Olin Business School. Brostoff is the associate dean and director of the business school's Weston Career Center.
In areas such as consulting or banking, he says, it's not unheard for students to already have internships lined up.

#Pre-Law Study
Pre-Law Study
As lawyers are engaged in issues that touch all disciplines, nearly every major can be considered for law school admission. Therefore, law school admissions officers advise that they look for a variety of majors and academic backgrounds, and there are no specific courses required at American University for students planning to apply to law school. Law schools recommend that undergraduate students pursue fields of interest to them that include rigorous upper-level courses that are writing-intensive and develop critical, analytic thinking. Words are the basic tool of lawyers;therefore, a successful lawyer must develop strong language and communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and debating.
Performance in a rigorous program of study, much more than the specific courses a student takes, will determine the student's attractiveness as a law school applicant. Admissions committees look for students who have perform

The changes, if approved by Parliament, will be the biggest economic reform, but it is likely to meet stiff opposition in Parliament and from labour activists.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing to launch India s biggest overhaul of labour laws since independence in a bid to create millions of manufacturing jobs, at the risk of stirring up a political backlash that could block other critical reforms.
Three officials at the federal labour ministry told Reuters that the ministry was drafting a bill for the upcoming parliamentary session that proposes to loosen strict hire-and-fire rules and make it tougher for workers to form unions.
The changes, if approved by Parliament, will be the biggest economic reform since India opened its economy in 1991, but it is likely to meet stiff opposition in Parliament and from labour activists.

#Know Your Rights if a Store Detains You for Shoplifting
Being detained by a store or mall security office under suspicion of shoplifting is an experience no one wants to have. Often mall security will try to pressure you into signing a statement admitting your guilt (often threatening to call the police if you don't) or force you to pay restitution for your offense, but in some cases things can escalate. If you're detained for shoplifting—regardless of whether you're innocent or guilty—you have rights. Here's what you need to know.
What Has to Happen for a Store to Detain You
Advertisement
Depending on your jurisdiction, you cannot even be approached until you've left the store premises. This isn't universally true, and often the act of concealment of store property is enough evidence to have you arrested and charged. Sometimes, store security staff (or the contract security firms that work in malls) will bend the rules a bit and r

#Land Use and Zoning Law.
Zoning is the term used for designating permitted uses of certain parcels of land by local governments. The word is largely self-explanatory: the local government will designate various zones for different uses of land, such as industrial, agricultural, commercial, and residential. Zoning is also frequently used to designate the types of buildings that can be erected in a particular area, such as high density housing, highrises, maximum height restrictions, etc.
The primary philosophy behind zoning regulations is to separate different, incompatible property uses. For example, keeping large, smoke producing factories away from residential neighborhoods. However, in many instances, variances, or exceptions to the zoning rules, are possible. For example, a small residential variance might be granted to allow for a home in an industrial zone to house the night watchman. Usually, variances are granted because of some perceived hardship caused by

#L. A. Law.
A classic legal drama
Great show with great actors!
Who can forget Rosalind (Diana Muldaur) taking over the firm and then loosing her power, just to show up again to take Leland to bed (this scene was ranked as the 38th greatest moment in television in an issue of EGG Magazine).
I can't believe I actually enjoyed this! It's like one of life's guilty pleasures.
A standout drama.
L.A.Law was a standout drama from '86-'94. At the end, as many drama's have happen, it became somewhat stale and may cause many to forget the gripping storylines Bochco, Kelley etc. created. The acting was superlative from the mainstays Dysart, Rachins, Tucker, Eikenberry, Ruttan, Bernsen, Hamlin etc. As the show expanded Law brought forth additional characters played by Dey, Smits, Greene, Underwood, Donohoe, Spencer, Drake, Muldaur etc. These actors made their roles and characters as unforgettable as the originals made there's.

The law of supply is a basic economic principle stating that as supply for a certain product increases, the price for that product will also increase. This is typically seen with new products that are in high demand, but may also apply to many other products, including commodities. The laws of demand and supply are often compared and used with one another, but are independent economic theories.
While the law of supply suggests that companies tend to maximize profits by producing products as their price increases, that is not always the case. Certainly, if a company sees a price increase and can produce a product for the same cost, it will take advantage of that situation as long as it can. In some cases, however, producing more of a product leads to certain inefficiencies. For example, a company may have to pay overtime or call for unscheduled deliveries, both of which make production more expensive. This could increase the price, yet only maintain the profit margin at previ

#Landlord and Tenant Law - Real Estate Center
What is Landlord Tenant Law?
Landlord Tenant Laws regulate the relationship between one who owns real property (i.e. land, houses, buildings, etc.) and those to whom he or she gives certain rights of use and possession. Landlord tenant laws grew out of the English Common Law, and contains elements of both real property law and contracts, though most jurisdictions have added a number of more modern considerations, as well.
Residential and Commercial Leases
Many jurisdictions vary widely in their application of landlord tenant law based on the type of tenant. A residential tenant is one who seeks to take up personal occupancy in the premises for purposes of using it as a home. A commercial tenant is usually a business that takes up possession of the property for purposes of carrying on some form of commercial, retail, or industrial pursuit. What is Education Law?
Education Law is the area of law that relates to schools, teachers, and the rights of Americans to a public education, as well as standards for those students who attend private schools.
American Right to Education
American laws mandate that every child be given the opportunity to an education. Each state has its own school system, and as a result, there are very different laws among the various states with regard to management of schools, teachers, and funding for public education. However, they are all overseen by the federal government through the Department of Education.
Equal Education Opportunities
There is a strong emphasis on providing equal opportunities for education. This includes both to minorities and historically disadvantaged groups, as well as to those with disabilities. The Equal Education Opportunities Act of 1974 provides that no state can deny an equal opportunity to educat

President Ford Signing ERISA of 1974
Statement by President Gerald R. Ford Upon Signing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974
September 2, 1974
Dramatic growth in recent years has thrust private pension plans into a central role in determining how older Americans live in their retirement years.
From 1960 to 1970, private pension coverage increased from 21.2 million employees to approximately 30 million workers. During this same period, assets of these private plans increased from $52 billion to $138 billion. And they are now increasing at a rate of $12-15 billion a year. It will not be long before such assets become the largest source of capital in our economy.
Yet, this same growth in pension plans has brought with it a host of new problems. Many workers have ultimately lost their benefits - even after relatively long service - because when they left jobs, they thereby gave up ri

Becoming an attorney through an online law program is possible, but it's also complicated. Blend Images - Jon Feingersh / Brand X Pictures / Getty Images
Would you like to earn an online law degree from the comfort of your own home? It’s not easy, but it is possible. Earning an online law degree poses several unique challenges. No online law school is accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA); however, forty-nine states require that law school graduates earn a degree accredited by the ABA in order to take the bar exam needed to practice law.
California is the one state that allows graduates from distance learning law schools to sit for their bar, assuming the examinees meet certain requirements. If you live in California, or if you’re willing to relocate, you may be able to become a practicing lawyer with an online law degree. Criminal Law Overview and Information
Criminal law involves prosecution of a person by the government, as the representative of the people of society, for an act that has been classified as a crime. Criminal law differs from civil law in many aspects, including the parties involved, the outcome that is sought, and the standard of proof required. In a criminal case the state, through a prosecutor, initiates the suit, while in a civil case, the injured party brings the suit. Crimes are punishable by incarceration, fines, or both, whereas a person found civilly liable may only be forced to pay money or surrender property. Crimes generally require a showing of wrongful intent, while the focus of a civil case is upon fault, regardless of intent.

As the UK did in earlier cases on this topic submitted to the Court, in case C-81/13 UK v Council it criticised the Council once more for using Article 48 TFEU as the substantive legal basis for the adoption of a social security measure implementing an association agreement, in this particular case the Council Decision 2012/776/EU. which aimed to update the obsolete implementing provisions on the coordination of social security systems as established by the EEC-Turkey As

In many jurisdictions throughout the world, land use is closely governed by zoning laws. In general, zoning laws are the compilation of all laws that affect the use and development of land. What can be constructed on a plot of land, how land may be divided or sold, and what type of business may be operated on a plot of land are all issues that fall within the purview of zoning laws.
In many countries throughout the world, land is at a premium. As a result, many governments have very strict laws that determine how that land may be used. Local, state, and federal governments may all be involved in zoning laws that directly affect land use.
One common issue that is often addressed by a zoning law is what may be constructed on a piece of land. National or federal laws, for instance, may set aside certain areas of land as wild land and forbid any type of construction or development at all on the land. Local laws may dictate how high of a structure may be built on a piece

Touro College claims an online-only school is turning out graduates with phony law degrees, according to a lawsuit.
Marshall Islands-based Novus University Law School “engaged in false, deceptive, misleading and unfair practices by representing itself to be a bona fide foreign law school,” Touro claims in Manhattan Supreme Court papers.
Touro — itself once embroiled in a grade-changing scandal — says Novus collected tuition from students but “conferred worthless law degrees,” according to court papers filed last week.
Authorities in Texas and Oregon have already declared law degrees from Novus invalid, and Touro is asking a judge to declare the school a diploma mill.
“Novus graduates often apply and are erroneously accepted to American Bar Association-accredited programs,” Touro charged.
Touro said it made the discovery when it became embroiled in “meritless litigation” involving Novus, which did not respond to messages seeking comment.

An LLB in Criminal Law can provide individuals an opportunity to advance their degrees with a focus on a specific area of law. This creates a specialization for the student, making him or her a better candidate for some positions.
What Is Criminal Law?
Criminal Law is an area of the law that focuses on policing and offenders. It is an area of law that includes criminology and the applications of law within a courtroom setting.
What Are the Benefits of Taking an LLB in Criminal Law?
Students working to earn an LLB in Criminal Law will work in a specialized area of law. These students will be better candidates for careers such as defense attorneys and working within courtrooms than those who have a basic law degree. Additionally, they learn work-based application, rather than broad legal concepts, making them "ready to work" in the field.

The Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) is conferred upon law students who pass a three-year J.D. program. In the United States, the degree usually requires at least three years of full-time coursework, and some schools offer part-time evening programs to accommodate working professionals.
The common coursework includes family law, criminal law, tax law, constitutional law, contract law, torts, civil procedure, and business law. Most schools offer a focused "track" program allowing law students to selectively focus on a particular field of law. These elective courses may be taken only after the mandatory coursework is completed. Typically, this is accomplished during the third year of law school. Most schools have legal clinics that offer focused instructional training combined with some real-word applications.
To obtain a law degree or J.D. you must have received a four-year undergraduate degree, and pre-law classes are not required. Most states require that practicing attor

Twelve U.S. states recognize common-law marriage: Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, New Hampshire (but only for inheritance purposes), Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. The District of Columbia also recognizes common-law marriage.
Unless all four of the above statements are true, there isn't a common-law marriage. Just like in a conventional marriage, when a common-law marriage exists, a couple must go through the same formal divorce process to end the marriage.
Family Law Free Advice states that if a couple move from a state that recognizes common-law marriage to a state that doesn't, the new state will usually recognize the marriage. That means that if a couple lived in Montana, where their common- law marriage was recognized, and they move to California, California will most likely recognize the couple as being married.

Legally, a major distinction between neglect and abandonment is that in the case of the latter, parental rights are immediately terminated, and the court system need not make an effort to reunite the child to its parents. For a neglected child, the court does have this obligation, but the parents are obligated to cooperate with the courts and Child Protective Services (CPS) in order to improve their approach to parenting. A parent who has no interest in cooperating nor ability to cooperate with the state agencies on these matters is then considered to have "abandoned" the child, and the courts need not deal with the "parents" in these cases any further. Children are then referred to private agencies for adoption.

If you take property from a Florida merchant or retail store without paying for it, you can be arrested for shoplifting -- technically called petit theft in Florida under the state law that defines theft, robbery and related crimes. Although shoplifting a candy bar or comic book might seem like a relatively trivial youthful indiscretion, the consequences of a shoplifting conviction can be severe.
Petit theft, the Florida term describing shoplifting, is known in other states as petty theft, petty larceny, 4th-degree theft or plain old shoplifting. Florida law defines petit theft as taking or attempting to take property from a merchant or store, an act that prevents or attempts to prevent the rightful owner from selling the property to a paying customer.

Los Angeles is suing to shut down a mobile phone application that arranges medical marijuana home deliveries.
In law, a lawsuit is a civil action brought before a court in which a party (plaintiff) has claimed to have received damages from a defendant's actions, the plaintiff, seeks a legal or equitable remedy. The defendants are required to respond to the complaint of the plaintiff. If the plaintiff is successful, judgment will be given in the plaintiff's favor, and a range of court orders may be issued to enforce a right, award damages, or impose an injunction to prevent an act or compel an act. A declaratory judgment may be issued to prevent future legal disputes.
A lawsuit may involve dispute resolution of private law issues between individuals, business entities or non-profit organizations. A lawsuit may also enable the government to be treated as if it were a private party in a civil case, as plaintiff or defendant regarding an injury, or may provide the

States and the federal government have laws that protect individuals' privacy and safety on the Internet. Some of these laws are designed to protect private information that a person does not wish to disclose to anyone else. Other laws are designed to protect information that is disclosed only to a website but not intended to be distributed to third parties.
A state may punish an Internet user for "public disclosure of private facts". This occurs when someone has disclosed private information about another person in a manner that a reasonable person would consider to be objectionable. For example, if a person were to hack into the computer files of another person and publish them on the Internet for everyone to see, then the hacker could be found liable for disclosing these facts. However, if the information is of public interest or was obtained from a public figure (i.e. politician), then the person suing must prove the information was false and the defendant knew it was fa

Practicing as a Lawyer in Scotland
A Scottish lawyer will practise as a solicitor, an Advocate or a Solicitor Advocate. The terms solicitor and lawyer in Scotland are almost interchangeable. Solicitors provide legal advice and drafting expertise, and may conduct minor litigation. Advocates (or barristers as they are known in England) have rights of audience and will plead cases in the courts, as well as undertaking opinion work.
In Scotland, entry as a solicitor is regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. and most students complete an LLB degree (either Honours or Ordinary), followed by a one year Diploma in Legal Practice. After this, students commence a two year traineeship with a firm of solicitors or a public sector organisation, such as the Scottish Government or Procurator Fiscal service.*
For applicants who already hold a degree, the typical conversion pathway to qualify as a solicitor is:

#Law Definition
Rules of conduct approved and enforced by the government of and over a certain territory (eg. the 'laws' of Australia).
Stripped of the necessity of an enforcement agency (government), the term law has been defined, simply, as:
“. a mechanism for facilitating and regulating interaction between autonomous entities." 1
In The Science of Law (1885) British jurist Sheldon Amos wrote:
"A law is. a command proceeding from the supreme political authority of a state, and addressed to the persons who are subjects of that authority."
"A rule of. conduct prescribed by the supreme power in a state, commanding what is right and prohibiting what is wrong."
Violation of these rules could lead to enforcement, government reaction such as imprisonment or fine, or private action such as a legal judgment against the offender obtained by the person injured by the action prohibited by law

The distance online MBA is a part-time MBA format, and one that is largely undertaken by students who wish to remain in their current role while they study. Employer-funded candidates will make up a certain proportion of each class. However, the majority of students will be self-funded candidates who have taken the initiative to pursue an MBA, but who cannot afford to forego their salary or to relocate – or simply do not wish to.
Yet, this is where the real appeal of an MBA online becomes apparent. While traditionally, a part-time MBA candidate would be limited to schools in their local area, they can now choose to study at any one of a solid selection of highly-respected international business schools, enjoying the benefits of the school’s network, access to world-class faculty and – of course – the ability to put a prestigious, globally-recognized school on their resume.
