#History of Scout Law, Original Scout Law Origin Explanations Commentary

12. Be joyful. Seek the joy of being alive-for every reasonable gladness that you can get or give, is treasure that can never be destroyed, and, like the springtime gladness, doubles, every time with others it is shared.

8. A SCOUT SMILES AND WHISTLES under all circumstances. When he gets an order he should obey it cheerily and readily, not in a slow, hang-dog sort of way. Scouts never grouse at hardships, nor whine at each other, nor swear when put out. When you just miss a train, or some one treads on your favorite corn--not that a scout should have such things as corns--or under any annoying circumstances, you should force yourself to smile at once and then whistle a tune, and you will be all right.

A scout goes about with a smile on and whistling. It cheers him and cheers other people, especially in times of danger, for he keeps it up then all the same.

Although many countries allow immigrants to obtain citizenship through marriage, it is not actually legal to marry only to obtain citizenship, and such marriages are commonly known as ‘sham marriages’.

A sham marriage typically occurs when a non-European national marries someone from the European Economic Area (EEA), including the UK, as a means of circumventing immigration rules and attempting to gain long-term residency and the right to work and claim benefits.

What is the legal position?

Marrying a British citizen or person settled in the UK does not automatically entitle a person to live in the UK, and marriages of convenience cannot be relied upon in order to obtain immigration leave to remain.

Part 8 of the Immigration Rules outlines the requirements for entry as a spouse, civil partner, fiancee or prospective civil partner. This includes a requirement that:

“Each of the parties intends to live permanently with ... Read more »

#History of Affirmative Action

T his section is not meant to be a comprehensive overview of affirmative action law, cases, or policies. It is, however, a brief review of some of the laws and regulations that have impacted UCI policy, practice, and discussion on affirmative action in recent years.

Executive Order 10925

O n March 6, 1961 President John F. Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925, which included a provision that government contractors "take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin." The intent of this executive order was to affirm the government's commitment to equal opportunity for all qualified persons, and to take positive action to strengthen efforts to realize true equal opportunity for all. This executive order was superseded by Executive Order 11246 in 1965.

Georgia Code Section 53-2-1(b)(1) states that if a person dies without a will and he has no children, but is survived by a spouse, the spouse is the sole heir under intestate law. However, if there are children, the spouse will receive at least one-third of the estate and the children will each inherit an equal share of the remainder. If there is only one child, she and the spouse will each inherit half of the estate.

When a spouse has not survived a decedent, Section 53-2-1 (b)(3) requires that the children inherit the entire estate in equal shares. If there are no children, Subsection (b)(4) states that the decedent s parent will inherit. If they are also deceased, siblings are entitled to inherit under Subsection (b)(5). More distant relatives, including aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, or cousins, may be entitled to inherit if they are the decedent s closest surviving relatives.

A decedent can include most of his estate in his will and set forth who will inh ... Read more »

Merit-Based scholarships are offered by law schools to applicants who demonstrate academic ability typically evidenced by a GPA or a score on the Law School Admissions Test (commonly referred to as LSAT). Most law schools offer such scholarships, though they typically are limited in number and very competitive. For example, Duke University School of Law offers only one merit-based scholarship, the Samuel Fox Mordecai Scholarship. These types of scholarships vary in the amount awarded but can cover up to full tuition, fees and books. Law school admissions offices and related websites will describe the criteria for receiving those scholarships and how to apply. Because these types are limited in number and highly competitive, it is best to apply early. Other merit scholarships may be awarded through participation in mock trial or moot court competitions sponsored by law schools. For those awards, no particular application is necessary since they are awarded to the teams that win the c ... Read more »

Law enforcement is the collective term for professionals who are dedicated to upholding and enforcing the laws and statutes that are currently in force in a given jurisdiction. There are law enforcement jobs that focus on local settings, while others are focused more on upholding and enforcing national laws. In addition to enforcing laws, the function of legal enforcement also involves managing the punishment process for people who are convicted of crimes, up to and including managing the process of incarceration.

At its core, law enforcement seeks to achieve two goals. First, enforcement professionals seek to prevent the occurrence of a crime that is in some way damaging to another human being or to society as a whole. Second, people employed in some enforcement capacity will seek to ensure suspected criminals are tried in a manner that is in compliance with local laws. Various officials will also assign some form of punishment or imprisonment that is considered eq ... Read more »

#Home - British Law Centre

For a student in 1990s Prague Law Faculty, bored stiff by tedious ex-cathedra lectures, presenting law dogmatically as a body or rules to be memorized, the Diploma in English and EU Law offered an exciting and refreshing window into a very different legal world, way of thinking, and understanding the law. For me personally, that was the moment when law started being fun. Add to that the opportunity to learn and perfect your legal English, a must in any international legal work done today. and you have the recipe for a successful career in law, in your home country or beyond.

The British Law Centre Diploma equips students with all of the skills one would expect from those graduating the best English universities. The skills acquired during the BLC Diploma are well recognised in the legal and academic worlds and it is no surprise that numerous BLC graduates have achieved great success in a wide variety of academic and professional environments. ... #Home Distilling Laws: Is It Legal To Make Moonshine in Kentucky?

The Following Questions Will Be Answered In This Article:

Kentucky Moonshine Laws

Is it legal to own a non-alcohol producing still (for water purification, etc.)?

  •   No, but it is a question of the surrounding facts.  Kentucky Revised Statute Section 244.170 provides that “No person shall buy, bargain, sell, loan, own, possess or knowingly transport any apparatus designed for the unlawful manufacture of alcoholic beverages”.   Therefore, the argument that a still is ‘designed’ to manufacture alcohol is an easy one for authorities to make.  If substantial evidence could be shown that the still was designed and used only for water purification, or some other purpose, it’s possible that prosecution could be avoided, but it may be difficult given the way that the statute is written.
  • Can still be seized?   Yes.   Kentucky Revised Statute Section 244 ... Read more »
