Continuing Education Requirements for Pharmacy Technicians | eHow

A pharmacy technician may attend up to 10 hours of in-service training of the 20 total required hours of continuing education every two years. The pharmacy tech must complete this continuing education under the direct supervision of the supervising pharmacist. In-service training may not consist of regular work duties, however. The pharmacist must assign special projects or training for the personal improvement of the certified technician.

Pharmacy technicians who do not complete all continuing-education requirements through in-house training and college courses must find additional training programs. According to PTCB, national and state pharmacy organizations and pharmaceutical companies often sponsor training programs. PTCB also provides a list of resources for online pharmacy-technician continuing education.

When completing in-service training, the supervising pharmacist must document all training by filling out the Universal Continuing Education Forms document. Course providers need to provide a certificate or participation. Certificates must include the participant's name, title of program, date of program, name of provider or sponsor, number of course hours and dated signature from a provider representative.
