South University is one of the proprietary universities in the United States based in Savannah, Georgia, with campuses in Alabama, Florida, Michigan, South Carolina and Virginia. More than 40,000 students are enrolled at various South University campuses in full time or online programs. Currently, there are five colleges under the university that offer associates, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in criminal justice, nursing and information technology. The College of Business, which is the oldest part of the institute, offers degree programs in accounting, business administration, healthcare management, public administration and IT. The College of Arts & Sciences allows students to pursue their interests in the fields of graphic design, photography, film-making, behavioral sciences and legal studies. South University is one of the few universities in the country offering healthcare training and education programs, and is accredited by The Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees are also available in the areas of health sciences and pharmacy in addition to technical training programs offered in physical therapy and anesthesiology. Recently, South University has set up its ‘virtual’ campus online, which offers a number of degrees in the areas of business administration, criminal justice, health science and paralegal studies. Students can take classes from anywhere, at anytime with a simple internet connection. They also have access to an online library which includes more than 300,000 books, journals and research papers. Lectures are often recorded and available for later viewing, and online students take specially designed interactive programs to help them develop a deep understanding of their particular subject. All classrooms are equipped with the latest audio-visual technology and video conferencing capabilities, allowing teachers to reach a broader student body. In order to enroll in South University. students must be a high school graduate or have a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). They must also take the Standardized Aptitude Test (SAT) and score at least 900 points to be considered for an admission. South University also conducts its own admission test at all of its campuses and online for students who are not able to take the SAT. Those interested in the university’s graduate programs must have successfully completed a four year bachelor’s degree or hold an associate’s degree with at least three years of work experience. Entry requirements for the doctorate programs vary, but generally the applicant is required to hold a Master’s degree in a related field and clear an interview with the college faculty.
