In your first year you will study the fundamentals of the legal system and develop the skills needed to become a successful Law student in modules such as Introduction to Law   Legal Reasoning and the Criminal Justice System. In your second and final years. you will build upon your knowledge by studying the core modules of Criminal Law, Land Law and EU Law, as well as optional modules. We offer a wide range of optional modules such as Family Law, Company Law and Human Rights and Civil Liberties; as well as socio-legal topics such as Criminology, Jurisprudence and Law and Political Theory.

Aims

During your degree, you will develop:

• Knowledge and understanding of Law
• An appreciation of the social and policy issues underlying the law
• Skills in legal and academic reasoning (including logical analysis and problem solving)
• Skills in legal and academic research
• Transferable skills, particularly in oral and written communication, independent learning and information handling.

Career prospects

This programme is a qualifying law degree and so will prepare you for the next step towards becoming a legal professional. If you wish to qualify as a solicitor or barrister in England or Wales after graduation you will need to complete the LPC (Legal Practice Course) or BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) along with a training contract as a trainee solicitor or pupillage as a trainee barrister.
