Splitting up is never easy. You have to come to terms with the breakdown of your relationship, your home and (often) your family. A person's reaction to this is not a predictable process. It can include shock and denial, disappointment, anger, depression, hurt, sadness, self-doubt, guilt and feelings of loss. You may also need to come to terms with the unpalatable consequences of your relationship breakdown and consider compromises you would have preferred not to make. We pride ourselves in providing prompt, discreet, understanding and sympathetic family law advice to achieve the best possible outcomes. That means the whole outcome including child support, financial matters, fair legal costs, family mediation, workable contact and, where there are children, the ability to continue functioning as joint parents. Nobody wins in the breakdown of a relationship. Fair solutions are rarely achieved without compromise by both parties. The people most likely to come through the breakdown of a relationship successfully are those who have been involved in reaching agreement together on the important issues. These agreements are also more likely to be adhered to than any Court Order. However, where compromise is not possible, solutions need to be found. Where Orders are not being followed, appropriate steps need to be taken to enforce them. A large proportion of family cases resolve without Court proceedings. However, every year around 500,000 vulnerable children and adults need to use the family justice system following family breakdown. Within family disputes it is important for financial issues and children issues to be kept separate. Children are not tools to be bargained with and anyone attempting to use them this way is likely to receive short shrift from the Courts. It is often the case that the interests of the children may blur with those of their parents. Correspondence should be designed to identify and resolve issues between the parties and not be medium to criticise each other as when done so it can oftern be produced in court and could adversely affect the case. We are committed to developing and promoting best standards in the field of family law, as part of membership of Resolution . All Resolution members abide by a Code of Practice. which emphasises a constructive attitude to family problems and encourages constructive and cost-effective solutions that take into account the needs of the whole family and the best interests of any children.
