Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley founded Seton Hall University in 1856. He named the University after his aunt, Sister Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint. Today, a total of more than 10,000 students attend Seton Hall's eight schools and colleges on the University's South Orange campus and the School of Law in Newark.
As early as 1937, a law school had been planned as part of Seton Hall University. But the demands of both the war years and the post-war influx of returning GIs delayed establishment of the law school until 1950. At that time, the New Jersey Supreme Court had adopted rules requiring candidates for bar admission to hold law degrees from law schools accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). As a result, John Marshall Law School in Jersey City, New Jersey was forced to close. In June 1950, the administration of John Marshall gave its library and many of its assets to Seton Hall. In return, Seton Hall agreed to maintain and administer the record

The term blue law may have been first used by Reverend Samuel Peters (1735-1826) in his book, General History of Connecticut first published in 1781, to refer to various laws first enacted by Puritan colonies in the seventeenth century prohibiting the selling of certain types of merchandise or business activity of any kind on certain days of the week, usually Sunday.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence to support the assertion that the blue laws were originally printed on blue paper. Rather, the word "blue" was commonly used in the eighteenth century as a disparaging reference to rigid moral codes and those who observed them ("bluenoses"). Another version is that the laws were first bound in books with blue covers. Moreover, although Reverend Peters claimed that the term "blue law" was originally used by Puritan colonists, his work has since been found to be unreliable, and it is more likely that he simply invented the term himself [2]. For many people, the doctorate degree represents the final stage of their education the pinnacle of years spent mastering a specific subject. It s a very beneficial degree and one that can take you and your career to some very rewarding places, but it s also one of the more misunderstood degrees offered in the educational system today. Learning more about it is important, and could help you understand why it could be the right call for you and your future.
A doctorate degree is a graduate level degree, and is often confused with a master s degree. The major distinction between the two is that a doctorate is generally needed to qualify for teaching within one s field of study as well as for completing and overseeing research efforts in a field. A master s will qualify a student for work within a field, but those with a doctorate are the ones who often initiate new studies and projects to the field and who most contribute to the overall understanding and progression of an area

What is Employment Law?
Employment law governs the rights and duties between employers and workers. Also referred to as labor law, these rules are primarily designed to keep workers safe and make sure they are treated fairly, although laws are in place to protect employers? interests as well. Employment laws are based on federal and state constitutions, legislation, administrative rules, and court opinions. A particular employment relationship may also be governed by contract.
American labor laws trace back to public outcry against the oppressive practices of the industrial revolution. In the early 20th century, the first laws were passed to compensate injured workers, establish a minimum wage, create a standard work week, and outlaw child labor. In the 1960s and ?70s, Congress acted to prohibit discrimination and unsafe work conditions. Current issues involve employee healthcare and equal pay for men and women.

What is Constitutional Law?
Constitutional law deals with the fundamental principles by which the government exercises its authority. In some instances, these principles grant specific powers to the government, such as the power to tax and spend for the welfare of the population. Other times, constitutional principles act to place limits on what the government can do, such as prohibiting the arrest of an individual without sufficient cause. In most nations, including the United States, constitutional law is based on the text of a document ratified at the time the nation came into being.
The U.S. Constitution itself became the law of the land well over 200 years ago, and the tenets set forth in the document remain in full force today. The way in which the Constitution is applied, though, has always been subject to court interpretation. As circumstances and public opinion evolve through the years, so too do the interpretations offered by the courts. From time to

#Chattanooga, Terrorism, and the Dangers of Lax Gun Laws - The New Yorker
By John Cassidy
Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez opened fire at a Chattanooga military-recruitment office before moving to a Naval Reserve center, where he killed four U.S. Marines.
Another shooting spree ; another debate about American gun laws.
According to news reports. Abdulazeez, a twenty-four-year-old Kuwaiti-born U.S. citizen, was armed with at least three guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle. How he got hold of these weapons wasn’t what concerned Trump, however. “Get rid of gun free zones,” he tweeted on Friday morning. “The four great marines who were just shot never had a chance. They were highly trained but helpless without guns.”
Trump was evidently referring to a Pentagon regulation, dating back to 1993, that prohibits some members of the military from carrying firearms while on base. His comments echoed those of gun enthusiasts, who highlighted, on social media,

This is hard question because there isn t a clear ranking system US News doesn t rank online degree programs and actual first-hand information is scarce for online law schools. There isn t much accountability at online law schools.
Let s take a step back.
No juris doctor program at an online law school. at the moment, is going to give you the kind of career you would have if you attended a national top-tier law school like Harvard, or even a regional powerhouse (like University of Alabama if you live in Alabama).
Indeed, there are not that many online law schools, actually, that permit you to sit any state s bar exam. None are, at the moment, ABA-accredited (this is important because if you graduate from a law school with ABA accreditation, you can take the bar exam in any of the 50 states of the U.S.).
There are a lot more programs that offer a masters of law online if you already have a juris docto

Intellectual property (IP) is an intangible creation of the human mind, usually expressed or translated into a tangible form, that is assigned certain rights of property. Examples of intellectual property include an author's copyright on a book or article, a distinctive logo design representing a soft drink company and its products, unique design elements of a web site, or a patent on a particular process to, for example, manufacture chewing gum. Intellectual property law covers the protection of copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets, as well as other legal areas, such as unfair competition. In effect, intellectual property laws give the creator of a new and unique product or idea a temporary monopoly on its use. The value of intellectual property to an individual or company is not based on physical properties, such as size and structure. Instead, intellectual property is valuable because it represents ownership and an exclusive right to use, manufacture, reproduce, or

#Child Abuse Law.
What is Child Abuse Law?
Child abuse law provides the rules for holding individuals who harm children legally accountable for their actions. These laws are directed at parents, guardians, caretakers, and anyone else responsible for a childs wellbeing. Child abuse is not limited to physical harm. Most child abuse statutes also include emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation, as well as acts or failures to act that result in an imminent risk of danger to the child. Allegations of child abuse can result in criminal charges and/or the initiation of a child neglect case in civil court. Statutes prohibiting child abuse have been enacted at the state and federal level.
Defending Against Criminal Charges
People are arrested on charges of child abuse every day in the United States. Many of these individuals did in fact cause harm to a child and deserve to be dealt with accordingly. However, others end up on the wrong side of the

Mexico has a radical idea for a rational immigration policy that most Americans would love. However, Mexican officials haven t been sharing that idea with us as they press for our Congress to adopt the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform bill.
That s too bad, because Mexico, which annually deports more illegal aliens than the United States does, has much to teach us about how it handles the immigration issue. Under Mexican law, it is a felony to be an illegal alien in Mexico.
At a time when the Supreme Court and many politicians seek to bring American law in line with foreign legal norms, it s noteworthy that nobody has argued that the U.S. look at how Mexico deals with immigration and what it might teach us about how best to solve

#Child marriage - the law - Girls Not Brides
Why is it important for countries to have a minimum legal age of marriage?
Laws that set a minimum age of marriage are an important way to safeguard boys and girls from being married before they are ready.
It is important that children are recognised in the law as being children and that they are accorded the full protection of the law.
Governments need to have clear and consistent legislation that establishes 18 as the minimum age of marriage. Adequate safeguards must be in place to ensure that parental consent or other exceptions are not used to force girls into marriage.
The existence of laws that set a minimum age for marriage is an important tool that helps those working to dissuade families and communities from marrying off their daughters as children.
Do all countries have a minimum age of marriage?

Format: Paperback
I just finished my Contracts final, but I will not blame my grade on this book.
This does what it is supposed to. It supplements the material that the Prof. presents in class. If you are not sure what the modern rule is, this is where you go. If you are not sure if there is an exception, this is where you go. If you are not sure what the basic functions of the rule is, this is where you check. If you are not sure what Restatement or UCC section applies, this is where you check.
This book is great for supplementing your notes and filling in the gray areas. For that, it is invaluable, but like all commercial outlines, it cannot replace your notes.
As the previous reviewer says, the flow charts are excellent. This certainly facilitates understanding, I would just recommend not putting all your eggs in this basket.

#Child Support
child support: an overview
Child support refers to the sum that the noncustodial parent must pay to the custodian. This sum serves as a parental contribution for the child's basic living expenses, such as food, clothing, shelter, health care, and education. When a court orders a parent to pay child support, the parent must pay directly to the child's custodian rather than directly to the child. States generally do not impose an obligation to pay support for a child after that child has reached the age of 18.
An individual, however, only has a legal responsibility to support one's own biological children. Thus, a court cannot order an individual to pay child support for a stepchild, subject to the caveat that the individual did not formally adopt the stepchild. While the vast majority of states adhere to this rule, a few state statutes differ with regard to stepchild support. To determine the law in a particular jurisdiction, see state laws .

#Child Abuse Protection Laws - Darkness to Light
Child abuse laws exist on the federal, state and local levels. Legislation serves to keep children free from exploitation, harm, and danger. The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), passed by the federal government in 1974 and reauthorized in 2010 is the largest body of legislation with regard to the fair, ethical and legal treatment of children and is intended to keep them free from all forms of abuse including physical, sexual, emotional and psychological.
Federal laws provide standards and guidelines; however, most child abuse issues are governed by state laws and regulations. All states have enacted laws for the protection of children from abuse and neglect. Among the issues addressed in state law are mandatory reporting, responding to child abuse and neglect, and statutes of limitations for criminal and civil prosecution.

All transactions in Indian real estate sector are governed by various laws enacted by the Central Government of India and respective State governments. One such law is the RENTAL LAWS. These laws govern the rental of commercial and residential property and are necessary to enforce individual civil rights of both landlord and tenant and prevention of any kind of deceit.
The real estate scene in India is flawed by land market distortions. The most glaring ones include inflexible zoning, rent and tenancy laws. Zoning laws, rent controls and protected tenancies have been detrimental to the healthy rental trends in India. They have put a freeze to land in city centers that could be otherwise made available for new retail outlets and flats.
These laws also gloss over operational inefficiencies and scuttle competition. Tenants residing could not be evicted for along time and would not surrender their cheap tenancies on their own volition. The renovation of

Paralegals are legal professionals who assist attorneys in the practice of law. They are not merely legal secretaries because their duties include more than simple administrative tasks. For example, paralegals conduct research, interact with clients, prepare court filings and draft important legal documents. Therefore, paralegals must be well-versed in legal terminology and litigation procedures. However, paralegals are not allowed to represent clients in court, give legal advice or sign most legal documents. Paralegals typically work for government agencies, corporate businesses and private law practices. Many students who want to work in the legal field choose to become paralegals as an alternative to going to graduate school to become a lawyer. Paralegal studies is a good option if you do not want a lengthy and costly education, because most paralegals have an associate degree, which only takes 2 years to complete. However, you can also earn a certificate in paralegal studies, ba

It is often difficult to discern whether the employee’s conduct online—whether it be posting pictures, writing comments about the work environment or the employer, will constitute protected concerted activity. This determination will determine what actions, if any, an employer may take against an employee when s/he as posted online content, and more broadly, the cases which follow can allow an employer to craft legally permissible policies and handbooks.
No protected concerted activity:
For example, in Karl Knauz Motors, Inc. 358 NLRB 164 (), a BMW automobile dealership (the Respondent) discharged a sales representative for photos and comments that he posted to his Facebook page. The first post was about a sales event for a new model and included sarcastic comments about the quality of the food (hot dogs, chips, and bottled water) being served at a marketin

AccreditedMBA is a guide to online MBA programs and careers. Earning your MBA from an accredited school has never been easier with the advent of online education. You can pursue a graduate degree without even having to visit a school’s campus.
When looking into online MBA programs, you want to make sure the program is accredited by a national or regional organization. Some online programs are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. While this organization is slowly gaining respect in the education community, it is not among the top accreditation sources. Ask a school advisor about the program’s accreditation. Remember just because a school is accredited in one program does not mean all of the programs are accredited. It is best to double check with an advisor before committing to courses or handing over a check.
You can check a school’s accreditation by visiting this site of the U.S. Department of Education and entering the appropriate information.
