#Garrow s Law axed by BBC1

Period legal drama will not return for a fourth series

Written By 12:30 PM, 06 February 2012

Garrow's Law has been axed by BBC1, the channel has confirmed.

The drama, co-created by Tony Marchant, centred on real 18th-century lawyer William Garrow (Andrew Buchan), whose daring acceptance of unfashionable or controversial cases helped to liberalise the legal system.

Garrow's Law had seemed to be a continuing success: at the end of 2011 it had more than four million regular viewers on Sunday nights, despite being up against the likes of The X Factor and I'm a Celebrity. on ITV1.

"BBC1 will screen more than 20 new dramas this year, but Garrow’s Law will not be returning," confirmed a spokeswoman for the channel – and the decision not to renew Garrow's Law underlines BBC1's commitment to new drama under controller Danny Cohen.

Cohen has already chopped popular existing dramas, such as Zen and Lark Rise to Cand ... Read more »

Any citizen of another country may claim asylum in the United Kingdom if they are at risk of grave danger in their own home land. The UK Immigration law allows these refugees under the provisions of the 1951 United Nations convention relating to status of the refugees. The UK Border Agency scrutinizes the authenticity of such claim, and any eligible applicant may be given an asylum for five years to remain in the UK. The United Kingdom has long been known to shelter anyone who faces a serious threat to their lives and their children. But this British hospitality is subject to abuse by other people who claims asylum in the UK. What are bogus asylum seekers?

According to the UK Immigration law. genuine asylum seeker has legitimate cause to stay in the UK; these are citizens of war torn countries mostly or facing genocide. In the world of physics, there are few people who have been more influential than Sir Isaac Newton. In addition to his contributions to astronomy, mathematics, and empirical philosophy, he is also the man who pioneered classical physics with his laws of motion. Of these, the first, otherwise known as the Law of Inertia, is the most famous and arguably the most important. In the language of science, this law states that: Every body remains in a state of constant velocity unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force. This means that in the absence of a non-zero net force, the center of mass of a body either remains at rest, or moves at a constant velocity. Put simply, it states that a body will remain at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an external and unbalanced force.

Prior to Aristotle’s theories on inertia, the most generally accepted theory of motion was based on Aristotelian phil ... Read more »

#Garnishment - What you need to know

Garnishment What you need to know

A garnishment is the process of withholding earnings from an individual to repay a debt obligation. In most situations, the employer is required to withhold funds from a legal or equitable procedure. This may be because of a court order, an IRS tax debt or other collection method. If you are facing garnishment, it pays to know what your options are and what is likely to happen to you.

Garnishment is a legal process. Not just anyone can withhold money from your paycheck. The only way for an individual, bank, tax authority or anyone else to garnish you is to take legal action against you (though there are several methods of doing so.) In the case of wage garnishment, the most common form. the debt collector must win the lawsuit and be given the right to take this step.

  • If you do not show up in court to fight the charges against you, it is likely that the judge will ... Read more »

#General Eviction Information for New York

What is an eviction?

An eviction is a court process a landlord can use to evict a tenant from a rented apartment, house, or mobile home.

An eviction case, which lawyers call a Summary Proceeding, is started when the landlord has someone else serve the tenant with two (2) papers, the Notice of Petition (has the time, date, and place of court hearing) and the Petition (has the reason the landlord wants to evict the tenant). You must be served with both of these papers at least 5 days before the court date, and the court date can t be later than 12 days after you are served.

Just because a landlord starts an eviction case doesn t mean that the landlord will win. Tenants have certain rights, and there are several defenses to an eviction action.

If you have lived in a rooming house or hotel for at least 30 days, the landlord must use the eviction process to make you move.

#Georgetown International Environmental Law Review

The Georgetown International Environmental Law Review (GIELR) is widely recognized as a leading quarterly publication of thought-provoking scholarly commentary and practical analysis of both international and domestic environmental law. Environmental issues do not recognize political boundaries, nor do they respect territorial integrity. Attempts to confront and resolve global and transboundary environmental problems have created the need for a legal forum to provide analyses of these issues. GIELR was created to meet this need.

Our publication spans a broad range of environmental issues such as climate change, renewable energy, the protection of the global commons, regional and comparative issues, and the intersection of the environment and international legal areas such as trade, human rights, security, and technology transfer. The audience we reach is nearly as broad as the subject matter we publish. Each public ... Baroness Butler-Sloss, the former President of the Family Division of the High Court, is leading a drive to overhaul the current laws, which date back to Victorian times, completely replacing the notion of neglect with a new crime of child maltreatment .

For the first time, inflicting emotional and psychological harm on children would be treated as seriously as causing physical injuries or abandoning them.

It follows a string of cases in which the authorities have failed to step in early enough despite warning signs of neglect and abuse, including the Baby P case and the Edlington torture scandal.

Baroness Butler-Sloss, now a cross-bench peer, has helped draft an amendment to the Government s Crime and Courts Bill, which is currently being considered by a committee of MPs, to overhaul the neglect laws, with the support of the charity Acton for Children.

The current law on wilful neglect is governed by the Children and Young Persons Act 1933.

An online law degree is a degree that is granted to an individual who successfully manages to complete all required courses in the study of law. In the United States a law degree is referred to as Juris Doctor (JD) whereas in Canada, Australia and an assortment of Commonwealth countries, it is called a Bachelor of Laws (abbreviated to LL.B.). For those who cannot commit themselves to full time study at a conventional law school, studying for an online degree is the way to go.

Many law schools offer the Juris Doctor degree or online law degree to be done completely via the Internet with no need to set foot in a real law school. #Gaza car blasts target Hamas, Islamic Jihad armed wings

There were no reports of serious injuries.

Witnesses said the explosions that went off at around 6:30 am (0330 GMT) appeared to have been caused by bombs placed underneath the cars parked in front of their owners' homes.

Three of the cars were said to have belonged to members of Al-Qassam and two to members of Al-Quds.

According to witnesses, the explosions occurred within an interval of 15 minutes.

Police working under Hamas, the Islamist movement that rules the Gaza Strip, did not say who they believed was responsible, but vowed action against the culprits who will not escape punishment.

Late Sunday, Gaza's interior ministry announced the arrest of militants suspected of carrying out the attacks, saying they would be investigated to determine their motivation. It did not say how many suspects were arrested.

#Garrow - s Law

First, let me that you for your kind words about the show. It s appreciated. I m only sorry that we re not able to bring you more of Mr Garrow s exploits!

For those of you in the UK, you might find it interesting to listen to the following episode of the Radio 4 show Unreliable Evidence  which was broadcast on BBC Radio4 on Boxing Day. Here is the link.

I took part in the show, hosted by former lawyer Clive Anderson along with Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, appeal court judge Sir Alan Moses, and German judge Ruth Herz.  We had a great chat about the drama of the court, and courtroom drama I talked about Garrow s Law, and they played a clip too! We also had a broader discussion about the theatricality of the law.

I hope you find it interesting. Sorry for those of you who are not in the UK.

With its sets and costumes, soliloquies, suspense and dramatic revelations the courtroom is pure theatre.

#Getting Along With Your In-Laws

In-law relationships need a touch of civility. Consider the story of Stephanie, who complained, "My mother-in-law never approves of the way I do anything. The last time Joe and I visited her it happened again. Just trying to be nice and helpful, I washed all the pots and pans after dinner. No sooner had I finished than she washed them all over again!"

Stephanie is not a newlywed. She has been married to Joe for 15 years. That whole time, she and Joe's mom have silently struggled with being civil to each other. When Joe's mom comes to visit, Stephanie really tries to get the house clean and comfortable for her. But after arriving, her mother-in-law pulls out the cleaning supplies and spit shines the bathrooms and kitchen. Stephanie assumes she's doing this because she thinks Stephanie is a slob and lives in filth.

After the last pots-and-pans fiasco, Stephanie spilled her frustrations to Joe's older sister, Connie. "I know your mother ... Read more »

With a degree comes an increase in possibilities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in , the median weekly income for high school graduates without a college degree was $651. In comparison, those with bachelor's degrees took home $1,108. Over a five-year span, bachelor's degree holders, on average, have the opportunity to earn $119,226 more than those with only a high school diploma. With careers commonly spanning decades, it's not hard to imagine the lifetime impact a degree has on one's income, and, in turn, general prosperity.

Please keep in mind when studying the Constitution, both procedural and substantive law.

Frankly, many an answer on a test was simply answered quickly with just sufficient writing on using, and knowing the difference between procedural and substantive law. Many may interpret my words as over simplistic. Yet I tell you my professors were taken in that I could, and with ease pull the necessary elements from the Constitution to make my argument, again by drawing upon both procedural and substantive law.

The reason why I have chosen Chapter Four is because of DEFENSE. Attorneys, and students of the Constitution will find that in the heat of battle (debate). To construct a defense, you will need to get to the elements in the Amendments of DEFENSE quickly.
