Talk about strange timing -- with Congress wrestling over new gun laws -- I have just finished the analysis of last year's gun laws passed by Congress. These were contained in the huge Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 1999 (Public Law number 105-277). I'll have the full update soon, and it will be summarized at gunlaws.com. These are the highlights.

TOTAL NEW GUN LAW ADDED BY CONGRESS IN 1998:

4,829 words

Growth in federal gun laws: 5.78%

Total federal gun laws now on the books: 88,413 words

Total number of changes enacted: 8 amendments, 8 funding provisions, 6 new laws, 1 repeal

The update section for Gun Laws of America currently has 15 new entries to cover the new material. I'll let you know when that material is ready for release (it's close, but the final details are always time consuming).
