NORTH DARTMOUTH Applications and enrollment at the state s first public law school have surged since the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth acquired the struggling Southern New England School of Law, an early sign that the controversial merger is off to an auspicious start.
Following years of pitched political battles to block its formation, the new University of Massachusetts School of Law received 462 applicants for this fall s incoming class. That is more than twice the number who applied last year, when the school was a little-known private institution.
The size of the first-year class is also doubling to 155. And students credentials, as measured by undergraduate grade point averages and LSAT scores, have risen, a feat for a school that has yet to be accredited by the American Bar Association, say university administrators. More than half of those accepted have decided to enroll.
Students are voting their confidence in the fact that we can probably g

Think very, very carefully before going to law school and perhaps ruining your life, permanently. The law schools have been flooding the market with a large oversupply of attorneys for decades. This has been a problem for a long time, not just in the current recession. The legal job market is horrible right now and it was only a little less awful earlier in the decade and in the 1990's. Consequently, the happy-talk about how the legal job market will improve significantly after the recession ends is bogus and intended to fool you. A huge amount of JDs, perhaps as much as 50%, never find work as attorneys, and many who do find work don't earn enough to make having gone to law school worthwhile. If you are looking for something to do with a liberal arts degree, find something else. Also, because of the huge oversupply of attorneys, working as a lawyer can be very miserable. Attorneys work very long hours under intense pressure in Machiavellian environments and many do not ea

If you’re intent on picking up your MBA in a single year, your options of attending one of the very best schools in the world narrow considerably. In the U.S. for example, only nine of the top business schools ranked by Poets Quants offer one-year options. In Europe, where the 12-month degree is more common, there are far more opportunities to get a quickie MBA at a prestige school, from INSEAD to IE Business School in Madrid, Spain.
The highest ranked U.S. school with a one-year program is Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, which started its program in 1964. The only other top 20 business schools with one-year options are Cornell University’s Johnson School and Emory University’s Goizueta.
Outside of the top 20 in the U.S. there are a number of very good one-year options at such prominent schools as Notre Dame s Mendoza College of Business, Babson College, and the University of Pittsburgh

To find the top online law school students should consider
1. Use of Socratic Method
Under the Socratic Method system of legal instruction. before each class, students are assigned cases to read and brief. This is followed by in-class presentations by the students. This is a crucial part of the learning process, students are questioned by the professor regarding the facts, rule of law, or the court’s reasoning in the case assigned for class.
The Socratic Method prepares students for the practice of law, it teaches law students how to analyze and make legal arguments, how to properly read and brief cases, and, lastly, how to prepare for the pressures of a legal practice. Although much of the practice of the law involves research and writing, all attorneys must discuss the law with other attorneys, judges, and their clients. Therefore, a properly trained attorney must be prepared to form legal arguments, analogize, and respon

Democrats want sweeping immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship or amnesty to the current 11 million illegal immigrants currently breaking the law in the United States. Republicans want some form of immigration reform, according to Sen. Mike Lee. but do not want the sweeping immigration reform passed by the Senate last year. Lawyers are people who practice law. In most countries, lawyers enter their profession through a period of specialized study. Lawyers are a frequent target of criticism, in part because they are often the face of an opposing party and are the proxy target for that anger, because they often the public face of unscrupulous parties such as persons being tried for crimes, because they employ a specialized jargon which makes it difficult for persons without a legal education to receive the benefits of the legal system without hiring a lawyer, and because they make up a disproportionate percentage of politicians.
- It may be that the jury would incline to regard a practising lawyer as a man of probity whose word was prima facie worthy of belief. But the belief of lawyers in their own probity is not universally shared, and there are those who believe them to be capable of almost any chicanery or sharp practice.

National Sunday law is a conspiracy theory which alleges that the United States government is on the verge of enacting a national blue law that would make Sunday a day of rest and worship. The theory is based on the idea that the Pope is the Antichrist and the Mark of the Beast is worshipped on Sunday. Sinister forces (read: the Vatican ) are conspiring to enact a national Sunday law in the United States, which would be the trigger that unleashes the fulfilment of the prophecies found in the Biblical books of Daniel and Revelation .
Fears about a national Sunday law date almost to the founding of the SDA church. In The Great Controversy. Ellen G. White wrote: "and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance." [1] She claimed to have foreseen such a thing in 1844. [2] The most notable attempt at passing a national blue law was in 1888, coincidentally the sam

The practice of law involves representing a client in a court of law or during legal negotiations, and providing legal counsel to clients. While lawyers may also draft documents and conduct research into case and statutory law, these tasks are often relegated to paralegals, or legal support staff. To practice as a lawyer, an individual must have earned a juris doctor (J.D.) degree, in most cases from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and pass a bar examination to become licensed in their state. While there is much interest in online degree programs in law, it is important to note that at present there are no fully online programs leading to the J.D. that are accredited by the ABA, according to the ABA website. Since most states require students to have graduated from an ABA-accredited program to sit for the bar exam, online law school programs are not currently a feasible path to becoming a lawyer for individuals in all states.

Then, I switched the office to PCLaw which had more features and more in depth accounting we needed. Their tech support was good but the software was not perfect (tech support needed to repair corrupted data a few times, etc. ? not cool),
Then, switched to custom software web-based on our own server. But, that is a headache too to add functions and fix things over time. We re lawyers not programmers!
Now, PCLaw is part of the evil empire (Lexis Nexis) ? just a joke BTW ? so not sure how much it is now. I see they also have Juris too. PCLaw may be even better than before under Lexis Nexis s wings.
Anyways, that is why I was interested in Houdini Esq ? advertised to have lots of great features despite goofy name, logo,

The concerns of elders and the concerns of their caregivers typically coincide—quality of life, quality of care, wellbeing of the primary caregiver (ordinarily a spouse or family member), and wellbeing of loved ones, including pets.
Elders often find it unavoidable to address these problems: (a) to maximize financing for expensive long-term care versus leaving an inheritance for loved ones; and (b) to wisely select fiduciaries to act on their behalf in case of physical or mental incapacity. Such problems present significant emotional, financial, and legal challenges.
Massachusetts elder law draws on both federal and State law for its legal content. The Massachusetts Medicaid program has been renamed MassHealth. Other distinctive features include
- the absence of legislation recognizing living wills substituting reliance upon health care proxies instead
- a well-developed mental health law
- a well-developed case law of trusts based on a t

You should know that, under eviction law, your landlord cannot simply kick you out of your apartment or other space that you're renting, even if you are behind on rent. In almost all situations, a landlord must obtain a court judgment before evicting a tenant.
In order to evict you from your rental lease, your landlord must first give you adequate notice, normally in writing, that must conform to certain formalities. At this point, you have a few options. First, you can act according to the eviction notice and move out. On the other hand, you can fix whatever defect your landlord has complained about (smoking, pets, late rentetc) and see if your landlord still wishes to go through with the tenant eviction procedures. Your last choice is to not do anything and continue to live in your apartment. If you choose this last option, your landlord will have to file a lawsuit against you, normally called an unlawful detainer suit, to keep the eviction procedure moving forward. To win

These days, it’s really not easy to get into a law school.
A recent survey reveals that the quality of law school applicants has increased a lot in the past few years, making the competition more fierce than ever before. Earning a law degree through attending an online law school is especially difficult, but it’s still possible.
All states in America, except California, require students to get a law school degree accredited by the American Bar Association before they take the Bar exam. However, there is no online law school accredited by ABA. Therefore, only those living in California or willing to relocate have a chance of taking the Bar exam, which is essential for a practicing lawyer, with an online law degree.
How to Choose an Online Law School
Choosing the right online law school really makes sense for people whose career goal is to practice law as an attorney. It is risky to attend an unaccredited online school. Also, it might be a suffer

What is Business Law?
Business law deals with the creation of new businesses and the issues that arise as existing businesses interact with the public, other companies, and the government. This area of the law draws on a variety of legal disciplines, including tax law, intellectual property, real estate, sales, employment law, bankruptcy, and others. Business law attorneys specialize in transactional work, meaning they do not represent clients in court. In fact, business lawyers are often hired for the purpose of avoiding future litigation.
To understand the role of business law within the legal system, it helps to view businesses as entities separate from their owners and employees. Just like individuals living together in society, business entities are subject to legal rules designed to give every participant in the marketplace a fair opportunity to succeed.
An enforceable system of business laws also benefits the economy as a whole and provides for

Good, but it should have been better
You ever watch a movie that under normal circumstances you'd think was great and wonderful, but there is something about the movie that keeps you from fully enjoying it? It gets sort of stuck between being great and being good, so ends up in neither place, and you end up liking but not loving the movie. Ultimately the movie falls into abyss of almost , and you very quickly forget it altogether.
Such is the curse of Laws of Attraction, a really good movie that's just sort of there. Half way into the movie I was wondering to myself why I wasn't connecting more with the movie since its funny, well acted, and very charming in all of the right ways. Somehow despite being able to see the quality I stopped caring what happened.
Can I recommend this romantic comedy about lawyers in love? Yes, its sweet and light and everything a good romantic comedy should be except memorable.
Rent it or wait for cable, bu

The Divorce Act of 1968 governs divorce in Canada. Unlike the United States where divorce laws differ from state to state, federal laws govern divorces in Canada. All provinces follow the same laws and regulations. The act was revised in 1986 to establish grounds for divorce and guidelines for child support and spousal support.
Chapter 8
(1) A court of competent jurisdiction may, on application by either or both spouses, grant a divorce to the spouse or spouses on the ground that there has been a breakdown of their marriage.
Breakdown of marriage:
(2) Breakdown of a marriage is established only if:
(a) The spouses have lived separate and apart for at least one year immediately preceding the determination of the divorce proceeding and were living separate and apart at the commencement of the proceeding; or<
