Democrats want sweeping immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship or amnesty to the current 11 million illegal immigrants currently breaking the law in the United States. Republicans want some form of immigration reform, according to Sen. Mike Lee. but do not want the sweeping immigration reform passed by the Senate last year. The Senate has passed a bill the House refused to take up since House Republicans wants a more "piecemeal" approach, especially on issues like border security. leading to an impasse. What will eventually transpire is anyone's guess, but the question remains, "What's wrong with the immigration laws that are currently in place?"

According to the Republican from Utah, "I think most members of [House Speaker John A. Boehner's] Republican conference would be willing and eager to pass some form of immigration reform, but it needs to be broken up, and it needs to be taken step-by-step, one step at a time."

Lee's response on "Fox and Friends" came after he was questioned regarding Boehner's sarcastic criticism of the attitude of some House Republicans regarding the immigration issue. Boehner, commenting on that attitude before an audience at the Middletown Rotary Club in his home district in Ohio, said, "Here's the attitude. 'Ohhhh. Don't make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard.' We get elected to make choices. We get elected to solve problems and it's remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don't want to. … They'll take the path of least resistance."

Lee defended the Republican position by stating, "I think the biggest reason why some of his colleagues in the House might feel that way is they're being told. Look, you've got to pass all of this 'Gang of Eight' immigration bill, all 1,200 pages of it. or you've got to pass nothing. People don't like to be told that because it's not a good way to go."

Congress does seem to take the path of least resistance since neither chamber nor party will address the issues producing a constitutional crisis in this country nor address seriously any scandal riddling America today. And, Lee is correct that people do not like the "all or nothing" scenario, which he reiterates is the way government is operating now regarding immigration law changes. It's all Obama's way or nothing ; it's all the Senate's way or nothing. Americans have certainly been choked on "it's all the government's way or nothing" mantra. Sen. Lee, are you now understanding the dissatisfaction of the American public?

Still, the question remains, "What is wrong with the current immigration laws as they stand now that need changing?"

If the issue is an unsecured border. was that not addressed in the last "immigration reform" that took place under Reagan, but was conveniently forgotten or back peddled on by every administration and Congress since the law change? Why does the immigration law need reform if one of the piecemeal issues is border security? It was promised previously. The solution is to secure the border, now, period. honoring the government's promise made to Americans then. Americans were promised a secure border in the last round of "immigration reform" in exchange for amnesty pushed down the throats of Americans – that a secure border has yet to be implemented. The precedence of any law reform is broken promises to the American people – the most recent being Obamacare with its numerous broken promises.

The illegal immigration problem continued even with those previous reforms. Some would say it has even gotten worse. Since that is a precedent, how are Americans supposed to trust and believe this time would be any different when considering the current track record of Congress and this administration? Americans should not have amnesty shoved down their throat yet again – criminals, and illegal immigrants are criminal because they broke the immigration law, should not be given amnesty.

Before Americans "accept" from both chambers the rhetoric that the immigration law is broken, like the chambers peddled the health care system to be broken, Congress and the ICE need to disclose specifically what in the immigration law is broken, has a loophole to be closed, or needs to change based on protecting the United States from the invasion of illegal immigrants. protecting our national and economic security, and protecting the values and principles upon which this country was founded. The sweeping reform of our immigration law, in an all or nothing manner, serves only the purpose of those in power who fully support the changes. Amnesty for illegal immigrants is detrimental to Americans and America. It's picking and choosing which criminal violations are excusable; it's acceptable to violate immigration law, but not acceptable to violate laws related to theft, murder, or illicit drug distribution and possession.

Even the Republican establishment is buying into the rhetoric that continued defiance to this travesty of immigration reform will mean a loss of voting base and the guarantee of never winning additional elections. The rhetoric should be a clue to the true intent and purposes of this bill – it's all about garnering votes for Democrats just like Obamacare. Anyone paying attention knows the continued mantra by the Democrats is all about projecting their less than honorable intentions and past indiscretions onto Republicans and conservatives. But, being a different side of the same coin, the Republicans play along to keep up the facade. Conservatives have sounded the alarm only for it to be ignored.

In response to letters written to Congressmen, the worn out canned response of "I'll continue to support President Obama on matters I agree" or "I'll oppose issues that concern me" has become frustrating, but indicative of congressional mentality. It isn't about what concerns constituents anymore. It's only about what concerns "them" or secures the voting cash cow. While some agree that America has certainly descended into an oligarchy with little hope of return to a constitutional republic. many continue to hold tight to the founding principles and our Constitution .

With that said, "What is wrong with the immigration laws as they currently stand that need changing?" All of America is waiting for an answer.
