The last graduation ceremony of the semester was held on Friday May 13th in the Great Hall of University Main Building. There was a record-breaking amount of graduated, 174. Read more Ms Louise Barrington gave a guest lecture on Professional Ethics in International Commercial Arbitration at University of Helsinki on Wednesday 4 June. The lecture was followed by a comment by Dr. Patricia Shaughnessy. After the lecture both Ms Barrington and Dr Shaughnessy attended the info session about the Vis Moot 2015 moot court competition and gave the potential applicants a valuable insight from the organizer s point of view. Read more University of Helsinki was awarded for the third best respondent memorial in the - Telders International Law Moot Court Competition. The applicant memorial was ranked seventh and the team did also well in the oral rounds, held in The Hague, finishing in the 11th place in the overall scores. University of Helsinki was represented in the Telders competition by: Alina B ling, Lars Lindeman, Alice Neffe and Outi Penttil . The new number for the University’s phone exchange is +358 (0) 2941 911. Melbourne Law School has appointed Professor Martti Koskenniemi as a Professorial Fellow. Professor Koskenniemi will visit the Law School in 2015 to teach in the Melbourne Law Masters program and to run workshops for doctoral students. He will also continue his collaboration with law school faculty on international research projects. The seminar is part of the project 'Equal Before the Law: Access to Justice in Central Asia '. The project is a joint program of the Eurasia Foundation and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland under the social sustainability priority of Finland s Wider Europe Initiative. The overall objective of the program is to increase access to justice for vulnerable populations in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, in particular rural women, at-risk children and people with disabilities. Read more Dean of the Faculty professor Kimmo Nuotio appointed new Vice Deans for - 2017. LL.D. University Lecturer Janne Kaisto was appointed for Vice Dean for teaching, LL.D. University Lecturer Ari Hirvonen was appointed for Vice Dean for research and researcher training and LL.D. University Lecturer Jarna Petman was appointed for Vice Dean for International Affairs and Community Relations. The Rector of the University of Helsinki, Jukka Kola, confirmed on 29.11. the selection of the Dean for the Faculty of Law in accordance with the decision made by the Faculty Council on 27.11.. The Faculty of Law’s Dean, Professor of criminal law Kimmo Nuotio, will thereby continue for his second term 1.1.-31.12.2017. New MoU and student exchange agreement was signed with Shanghai JiaoTong University. The University of Helsinki's Vis Moot Team recently travelled to Switzerland to attend the University of Z rich's Vis Moot School Switzerland, a preparatory lecture series for the moot. In addition to orientation course the traditional welcome event for new students to meet fellow students, staff and alumni was arranged. Porthania s cafeteria was crowded with former and new students from all over the world: 260 students started in Finnish degree programmes, 30 in the English taught master s programme and more than 100 exchange students started their study abroad period at the Faculty. See pictures of the event . Kenneth Kraszewski is one of the first students who completed the Master s Degree Programme in International Business Law and Public International Law. He studied International Business Law and specialized in international arbitration in Europe and in United States, and works now as a transactional attorney at Merilampi attorneys. Read more
