Slander is oral defamation of character. Defamation is a civil offense that occurs when one party makes false and malicious statements about another to a third party. Many jurisdictions have slander laws that address this type of behavior and allow the harmed party to recover damages.

For statements made by one person about another to be considered slander, several circumstances must exist. To begin with, the statements must be conveyed to a third party. The law does not generally recognize the possibility of defaming a person to herself. Also, the statements must be false. No matter how private or hurtful a comment is, it is not illegal to say it if it is true.

Furthermore, if a person wishes to use slander laws to seek justice, she must be able to prove that the statements against her were made with malice. To do this, she must show that the accused had the intention to do harm. If someone makes false statements mistakenly and it hurts another person, this is not c ... Read more »

A Law degree is an academic degree conferred for studies in law. Such degrees are generally preparation for legal careers; but while their curricula may be reviewed by legal authority, they do not themselves confer a license. A legal license is granted (typically by examination) and exercised locally; while the Law Degree can have local, international, and world aspects- e.g. in Britain the Legal Practice Course is required to become a British solicitor [ 1 ] [ 2 ] or the Bar Professional Course (BPTC) to become a barrister. [ 3 ]

The first academic degrees were all law degrees- and the first law degrees were doctorates. The foundations of the first universities in Europe were the glossators of the 11th century, which were schools of law. [ 4 ] The first European university, that of Bologna. was founded as a school of law by four famous legal scholars in the 12th century who were students of the glossator school in that city. The age of a person is one of the most important legality issues regarding nude pictures. If the person in the photographs is 18 years of age or older, then it is not illegal to post nude or pornographic pictures of them on the Internet. However, the photographer or the person doing the posting of the pictures, must keep a record of the name, contact information and consent form of the person in the picture, before the picture is posted. Additionally, the photographer should attempt to keep underage persons from viewing pictures that are considered to be pornographic in nature. While the age of consent may vary by state for engaging in sex, the age for posing in pornographic pictures does not.

Even if his opponents conceded that Abraham’s life was characterized primarily by faith, Paul knew that they still would have questions about why God gave the law to Israel about four centuries after Abraham. Did not the giving of the law nullify any previous arrangement?

What is the point of Paul’s analogy between a person’s final will and testament and God’s covenant with Abraham? Gal. 3:15–18 .

A covenant and a will are generally different. A covenant is typically a mutual agreement between two or more people, often called a “contract” or “treaty”; in contrast, a will is the declaration of a single person. The Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, never translates God’s covenant with Abraham with the Greek word used for mutual agreements or contracts (syntheke ). Instead, it uses the word for a testament or a will (diatheke ). Why? Probably because the translators recognized that God’s covenant ... Read more »

#Pre-Law Study

Pre-Law Study

As lawyers are engaged in issues that touch all disciplines, nearly every major can be considered for law school admission. Therefore, law school admissions officers advise that they look for a variety of majors and academic backgrounds, and there are no specific courses required at American University for students planning to apply to law school. Law schools recommend that undergraduate students pursue fields of interest to them that include rigorous upper-level courses that are writing-intensive and develop critical, analytic thinking. Words are the basic tool of lawyers;therefore, a successful lawyer must develop strong language and communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and debating.

Performance in a rigorous program of study, much more than the specific courses a student takes, will determine the student's attractiveness as a law school applicant. Admissions committees look for students who have perform ... Read more »

#L. A. Law.

A classic legal drama

Great show with great actors!

Who can forget Rosalind (Diana Muldaur) taking over the firm and then loosing her power, just to show up again to take Leland to bed (this scene was ranked as the 38th greatest moment in television in an issue of EGG Magazine).

I can't believe I actually enjoyed this! It's like one of life's guilty pleasures.

A standout drama.

L.A.Law was a standout drama from '86-'94. At the end, as many drama's have happen, it became somewhat stale and may cause many to forget the gripping storylines Bochco, Kelley etc. created. The acting was superlative from the mainstays Dysart, Rachins, Tucker, Eikenberry, Ruttan, Bernsen, Hamlin etc. As the show expanded Law brought forth additional characters played by Dey, Smits, Greene, Underwood, Donohoe, Spencer, Drake, Muldaur etc. These actors made their roles and characters as unforgettable as the originals made there's.

mba program ranking generate a lot of interest and are a subjective assessment of the quality of the school or the program offered. they are generally based on questionnaire answers and compare many different aspects of mba programs or business schools.

for example, some criteria that are used to compile the rankings are:

  • reputation based on the opinion and judgment of recruiters, academics and / or graduates
  • salaries on graduation or salary increases of graduates
  • gmat scores
  • alumni attitudes towards the quality of the mba program
  • academic reputation or the rating of research

looking at all the different criteria used can make it difficult to draw comparisons between different mba rankings. however, there are a few major ranking surveys that draw the attention of students, business schools and employers alike and these tend to be used most often as a benchmark to compare mba schools.

In Australia, in common with many other countries, the executor named in a will by the deceased must distribute assets under the will according to the terms of the will. The executor usually needs to obtain a grant of probate from the relevant court. Many third parties such as banks and financial institutions hold the property on behalf of the deceased and, to protect themselves legally, will not release it without a grant of probate. Some property can only be passed on via probate, such as a share of a house held as a tenant-in-common.

the Sunday law refers to a statute regulating or prohibiting commercial activity on Sundays. Although Sunday laws were formerly common, they have declined since the 1980s, when many courts held them invalid because of their origin in religion because Sunday being the Christian Sabbath. Sunday laws are also known as Sunday-closing law, or Lord s Day Act.

The Sunday law is justified, not by religious dogma, but as a sanitary measure and as a legitimate exercise of the police power. The law proceeds upon the theory, entertained by most of those who have investigated the subject, that the physical, intellectual, and moral welfare of mankind requires a periodical day of rest from labor and, as some particular day must be fixed, the one most naturally selected is that that is regarded as sacred by the greatest number of citizens and that by custom is generally devoted to religious worship, or rest and recreation, as this causes the least interference with business or existing cust ... #Labor and Employment

Areas of Study

Overview

Business productivity and worker quality of life are both shaped by developments in labor and employment law. NYU Law is unusual among the very top law schools in the size and quality of its full-time faculty in this field.

The Big Picture

Labor and employment lawyers work on complex legal matters that profoundly and directly affect the lives of real people. Disputes between employees and employers are pervasive in our society and collectively represent more than 20 percent of the caseload of the federal and state courts. These disputes touch on all elements of the employment relationship, involving workers as individuals, as members of protected groups (e.g. race, gender, age, disability), and as participants in collective action (e.g. unionization and collective bargaining). They arise under local, state, federal, and international laws that utilize the full range of legal rules and regulatory too ... Read more »

The Federal Labor Standards Act administers a standard set of labor law regulations for each state to follow. Under federal law, workers are not entitled to any breaks during the workday, including rest break or lunch breaks. However, several states grant general workday breaks or meal breaks, or even both types of breaks, to its employees. Arizona is not a state that requires employers to provide workday or lunch breaks.

The United States Department of Labor administers labor law rules and regulations that each state must follow. The labor department promotes safe working conditions for U.S. employees and helps employers by providing a standard set of guidelines they must follow through the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Additionally, states may supplement these federal regulations with its own set of labor regulations, providing employees with additional work benefits and privileges. At a minimum, each state must require its employers to provide any FLSA benefits ... Read more »

What is Education Law?

Education Law is the area of law that relates to schools, teachers, and the rights of Americans to a public education, as well as standards for those students who attend private schools.

American Right to Education

American laws mandate that every child be given the opportunity to an education. Each state has its own school system, and as a result, there are very different laws among the various states with regard to management of schools, teachers, and funding for public education. However, they are all overseen by the federal government through the Department of Education.

Equal Education Opportunities

There is a strong emphasis on providing equal opportunities for education. This includes both to minorities and historically disadvantaged groups, as well as to those with disabilities. The Equal Education Opportunities Act of 1974 provides that no state can deny an equal opportunity to educat ... Read more »

The law of supply is a basic economic principle stating that as supply for a certain product increases, the price for that product will also increase. This is typically seen with new products that are in high demand, but may also apply to many other products, including commodities. The laws of demand and supply are often compared and used with one another, but are independent economic theories.

While the law of supply suggests that companies tend to maximize profits by producing products as their price increases, that is not always the case. Certainly, if a company sees a price increase and can produce a product for the same cost, it will take advantage of that situation as long as it can. In some cases, however, producing more of a product leads to certain inefficiencies. For example, a company may have to pay overtime or call for unscheduled deliveries, both of which make production more expensive. This could increase the price, yet only maintain the profit margin at previ ... Read more »

#Prepare for an MBA Internship - US News

Participating in school competitions can prepare students for work, one expert says.

By January, some first-year MBA students have taken the first step in securing their careers as business leaders: They've accepted summer internship offers.

Employment is such a critical part of the b-school experience that an MBA program's career office usually starts working with first-year students before they arrive on campus and continues working with them — on resume writing, interviewing and other skills — after they find summer employment.

Once you accept an internship, the process doesn't stop, says Mark Brostoff of Washington University in St. Louis' Olin Business School. Brostoff is the associate dean and director of the business school's Weston Career Center.

In areas such as consulting or banking, he says, it's not unheard for students to already have internships lined up.

Prospective students think about ... Read more »
