Some job duties may include overseeing patient records, establishing and applying hospital policies, deliver reports, plan budgets or prepare business strategies.
A career in hospital administration offers an assortment of jobs, but most focus on running a hospital's finances, personnel and quality assurance efforts. #Faculty, staff let go at WMU Cooley Law School campuses across Michigan
LANSING -- Faculty and staff cuts have been made at Thomas M. Cooley Law School the same week that the school formally added its affiliation with Western Michigan University to its name.
James Robb, associate dean of external affairs for Cooley, confirmed Friday that the school has let go some faculty and staff members at its Michigan campuses.
"As part of the financial management plan we announced at the beginning of July, we have begun some reductions in faculty and staff," Robb said. "We re doing this to continue to right-size the organization to match our enrollment."
Robb said he did not have specific numbers for how many faculty members or staff had been let go, but said all the employees involved were being offered severance packages. The layoffs are expected to be the only round of cuts the school will make, he added.

#Fact Check: Is Seattle s mayor kowtowing to Sharia law? Jason Rantz
Is Sharia law creeping into Seattle rule of law? Is it taking over the city of Seattle?
I got an email from a listener asking me to take a look and I thought it would be a perfect issue to put through the Jason Rantz Show fact checker.
So I received an email from someone sending me to an article in the Puget Sound Business Journal asking me to check it out and see if there's anything fishy going on.
The article is titled "Seattle mayor offers plan to help followers of Sharia law buy houses."
Is this a case of Sharia law creeping into our lives?
No, it's not. Just because it says Sharia law and just because it accommodates Sharia law, it doesn't automatically mean it's a bad thing we need to be scared of.
So this week we saw the affordable housing committee in Seattle release recommendations on how to bring to the city cheaper housing. Most of the suggestions are pret

#Federal judge strikes down Arizona immigration law - LA Times
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton said in her Friday ruling that the state law was preempted by the U.S. government s authority to enforce immigration laws, dealing another legal blow to Arizona s controversial efforts to give local and state law enforcement more muscle to combat illegal immigration.
The smuggling law, passed in 2005, was designed to prosecute those trafficking people into the country. The law was modified by the controversial SB 1070, which expanded the ability of local authorities to stop people suspected of being in the country illegally.
In her ruling, Bolton said the state law imposes additional and different state penalties than federal law; it divests federal authorities of the exclusive power to prosecute these specific smuggling crimes; and criminalizes conduct not covered by (federal law) because it does not contain a safe harbor exception for religious activities like the

#WHAT IS ZONING
WHAT IS ZONING?
Zoning is the way the governments control the physical development of land and the kinds of uses to which each individual property may be put.
Zoning laws typically specify the areas in which residential, industrial, recreational or commercial activities may take place. For example, an R-1 residential zone might allow only single-family detached homes as opposed to duplexes or apartment complexes. On the other hand, a C-1 commercial zone might be zoned to permit only certain commercial or industrial uses in one jurisdiction, but permit a mix of housing and businesses in another jurisdiction.
WHAT ELSE DO ZONING LAWS REGULATE ?
Besides restricting the uses that can be made of land and buildings, zoning laws also may regulate the dimensional requirements for lots and for buildings on property located within the town, the density of development, and whether you can have pigeons, dogs, sheep or llamas. Some zoning ordi

#Federal Labor Laws For Salaried Employees
While labor laws are designed to afford the same sorts of protections and benefits to all American workers, the implementation of these protections differs depending on whether someone is paid on an hourly or salary basis. Hourly workers are protected by federal minimum hourly wage standards with overtime pay equal to "time and a half." The laws around salary workers are similar but take on their own unique flavor.
Categories of Federal Labor Laws
There are four basic protections involved in salaried employee labor laws. These are:
- Hours Worked
- Late Days
- Vacation Sick Days
These make up the backbone of the American system of worker protection
Federal Laws about Hours Worked

L oth to be outdone by accountants in the arena of spoiling fun, the legal profession has responded to KPMG's work-while-you-study initiative by launching an intensive, two-year undergraduate law degree.
The shortened LLB course unveiled this week by the College of Law (CoL) – a private charity originally set up by the Law Society – will shave a third off the time it takes to complete a traditional law degree.
The move follows similar ventures by other private colleges – including the CoL's rival, BPP Law School – which introduced a compressed law degree last year. These courses, which cost in the region of 9,000 per year, have been aimed at mature and overseas students to date. But impending undergraduate fee rises mean they may appeal to school-leavers as a way of saving a year's tuition costs, plus living expenses.
There is a question, however, about how extensive the savings will prove in practice. Conscious of the demands of doing a full degree in two ye

Landlord-tenant law governs the rental of commercial and residential property. It is composed primarily of state statutory and common law. A number of states have based their statutory law on either the Uniform Residential Landlord And Tenant Act (URLTA) or the Model Residential Landlord-Tenant Code. Federal statutory law may be a factor in times of national/regional emergencies and in preventing forms of discrimination.
The basis of the legal relationship between a landlord and tenant is grounded in both contract and property law. The tenant has a property interest in the land (historically, a non-freehold estate) for a given period of time. See State Property Statues. The length of the tenancy may be for a given period of time, for an indefinite period of time, (e.g., renewable/cancelable on a month to month basis), terminable at any time by either party (at will), or at sufferance if the agreement has been terminated and the tenant refuses to leave (hold

Family law covers a range of issues including divorce, civil partnerships and issues relating to children. Another aspect is contentious probate issues, in which claims by spouses are made against their deceased spouse’s estate. Clients may also be advised on wealth protection tools such as cohabitation agreements and marital property agreements. International law is relevant and has practical application in family law.
Mediation and the media
There is an emphasis on mediation in accordance with the Family Procedure Rules 2010. Solicitors advise their clients through this process.

#Family Law Lawyers - Compare Top Family Law Attorneys
Dealing with family law issues?
Family law generally concerns domestic relations and family-related matters such as marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships, adoptions, paternity, guardianships, domestic abuse, surrogacy, child custody, child abduction, the dissolution of marriage and associated issues. Each state has its own set of family laws, and traveling across state borders can sometimes affect your rights and those of your family.
Contrary to popular belief, seeking the advice of a family law attorney does not necessarily mean that something is amiss in your family. A family law attorney can help negotiate prenuptial/premarital agreements for clients in anticipation of marriage or advise same-sex couples on relevant legal issues affecting their relationship. They also can help with adoption proceedings and other procedures involving children.
Family law attorneys often do represent clients se

The Supreme Court's decision in the 1972 case of Roe v. Wade was -- and is still -- the most important decision affecting abortion in the United States. Roe made it possible for women to terminate their pregnancies for virtually any reason within certain gestational time limits.
Since Roe, abortion has come under scrutiny by lawmakers and abortion opponents who have pushed for stricter abortion laws over the past several decades. For instance, the 1992 case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey upheld a woman's right to legal abortion, but imposed state regulation of other aspects of abortion such as 24-hour waiting periods, informed consent requirements, parental consent provisions, and a record keeping mandate.
Although legal abortion still carries, the future of abortion leans toward stricter boundaries that seem to chip away at the essential holding of Roe.
Below is a summary of abortion laws that arguably limit a woman's right to have an abortion. For state-spe

family law , body of law regulating family relationships, including marriage and divorce. the treatment of children, and related economic matters.
In the past, family law was closely connected with the law of property and succession (see property law ), and, judging from the records available, it must have originated principally in the economic and property questions created by the transfer of a female from her father’s family to the power and guardianship of her husband. Even with regard to the relationship between parent and child. legal concepts such as guardianship, custody, and legitimacy were associated with family power structures and family economic interests. Family law also traditionally has to do with matters of personal status—for example, the question of whether a person is to be considered married or single, legitimate or illegitimate—though the incidents and importance of these distinctions often derive from the law of prope

#Fashion Law Degree Fordham University
Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images.
When Susan Scafidi was a junior professor of intellectual property, she was told that fashion was too “girly” and “frivolous” to be taken seriously. When she questioned why fashion designers had little protection when it came to their work and designs, it seemed she was the only one asking. But as of this morning, Scafidi, along with Diane von Furstenberg, the CFDA, and Fordham University, has taken a major step to support the work of people in the fashion industry. (redirected from Zoning laws )
Laws at the municipal level regulating the uses of real property in certain areas. For example, land in a certain area may be zoned only for commercial use or residential use. Zoning laws exist to improve the quality of life in a local area; for instance, they guard against an oil refinery being placed in an area where families with children live. Depending on the laws of the municipality, zoning laws may be suspended at certain times for certain developments, especially those likely to result in an economic boon for the community.
The regulation of the uses of property; the density of populations employing those uses; and the kinds, sizes, and proportions of structures that can be erected on property.Zoning was first put into place in New York City in 1916 as a reaction against the construction of the Equitable Building, because its 41-story height cast shadows over neighboring residences and affected people's quality of life. The

A body of law derived and evolved directly from Roman Law, the primary feature of which is that laws are struck in writing; codified, and not determined, as in the common law, by the opinions of judges based on historic customs.
Has several meanings. In common law jurisdictions, the term can mean law as between citizens; law which regulates affairs between citizens or persons as between themselves (private law ).
Can also be distinguished from the criminal law which is the state or government's list of prohibited actions, and the process or procedure for dealing with transgressions thereof.
The most common use of the term is to refer to civil law legal systems. Many states in the world have comprehensive legal systems called civil law jurisdictions, largely inspired by Roman law. the primary feature of which was that laws were written into a collection; codified, and not determined, as is common law, by judges. So let s talk about the Faraday - Lenz law, the Faraday - Lenz law is a very very very important law of our electromagnetic fields that came out of two Physicists Faraday and Lenz and that s why it s called that law. Law clerks assist attorneys or judges in researching or preparing legal documents. They may also provide assistance in the courtroom, attend oral arguments, write draft opinions and orders, organize trial exhibits, prepare the judge s bench, and supervise other judicial interns.
Law clerks are almost always recent law school graduates, or sometimes experienced attorneys. The main reason that lawyers desire to complete a clerkship is to gain valuable experience that they will use in their own law practice.
To become a law clerk, an individual must submit applications to judges, who select them from a pool of applicants. Law clerks are needed in state trial courts, state appellate courts, federal trial courts, federal appeals courts, and also in specialty courts. Clerkships typically last one or two years, although clerkships in the U.S. District Courts last for five years. Career clerks may be employed by a particular judge or court for many years.

In most instances, a child has to be 14 years old or older before beginning employment. Strict labor laws prohibit children 13 and younger from working in most capacities. This prevents them from being overworked or placed in hazardous situations.
However, children are allowed limited work experiences in newspaper delivery and babysitting. They can work in a business or farm that is owned or operated by their parents. They can also work as actors in motion pictures, television, and theater or radio performances.
Teenagers can only work certain hours without violating labor laws. While individual states can maintain stricter rules than the federal government, there are many federal restrictions regarding teens who are 14 or 15 years old.
The teenagers in this age bracket can only work between the hours of seven in the morning and seven in the evening. The only exception to this occurs between June 1 and Labor Day, when teenagers are allowed to work until nine

Patent Law in the United States
Patents have been in the news recently as Amazon.com and other Internet companies have used patents to obtain monopoly rights in certain inventions. Although many object to anyone having a monopoly on an idea or invention, such monopoly rights have always been a fundamental part of the patent system.
The importance of granting monopolies for new inventions has been recognized in the United States since the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. In Article I, section 8, the U.S. Constitution:
Congress shall have power. To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.
Patents in the United States are governed by the Patent Act (35 U.S. Code), which established the United States Patent and Trademark Office (the USPTO). The most common type of patent is a utilit

#FBI - Overview
Hate Crime Overview
Investigating hate crime is the number one priority of our Civil Rights Program. Why? Not only because hate crime has a devastating impact on families and communities, but also because groups that preach hatred and intolerance plant the seeds of terrorism here in our country.
Defining a Hate Crime
FBI Jurisdiction
A hate crime is not a distinct federal offense. However, the federal government can and does investigate and prosecute crimes of bias as civil rights violations, which do fall under its jurisdiction. These efforts serve as a backstop for state and local authorities, which handle the vast majority of hate crime cases. A 1994 federal law also increased penalties for offenses proven to be hate crimes.
In 2009, the passage of a new law the first significant expansion of federal criminal civil rights law since the mid-1990s gave the federal government the authority to prosecute violent ha

Determining College and Degree Accreditation
The best way to go about determining the accreditation status of an online biology degree program, and often any other degree, is to begin with the college's website. Almost without exception, colleges will post on their website their accreditation status and what organizations they are accredited by. This is true for both colleges that are legitimately accredited and those that are not.
For small or non-traditional colleges, the accreditation section can often be found as a separate link on the college's link bar, posted to be obvious to visitors. For large colleges, accreditation information may be relatively hidden, usually in a link on the 'A

The HEOA, short for the Higher Education Opportunity Act, is a higher education reform bill passed by Congress in 2008. Among the many provisions in HEOA was a set of important regulations to help make textbooks affordable, which went into effect July 1, 2010 .
Summary of HEOA Textbook Provisions
1. Price disclosure. Publishers are required to disclose prices and revision information when marketing textbooks to professors. This law helps counteract the "broken market" at the root of high textbook prices by providing all of the information professors need to identify and consider lower cost options.
2. Unbundling. Ever bought a textbook packaged with a CD or passcode you never used? Thanks to HEOA, publishers now are required to offer all of the items in textbook bundles for sale separately. This gives students freedom to buy what t

#Patent Law.
What is Patent Law? It encompasses the branch of law that governs patents. U.S. patent laws were enacted by Congress under its Constitutional grant of authority to protect the discoveries of inventors. A patent is the grant of an exclusive property right to the inventor for the benefits of an invention or improvement, granted by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), for a specific period of time. The invention or idea, by its nature, must be patentable; one skilled in the applicable field must be able to make and use the claimed invention; it must be new (novel) and has not been iterated; its originality must be obvious, meaning the idea cannot be something that anyone in the applicable field of expertise could have easily identified; and it must be useful. Patent law specialists can make a search of patents to determine if the proposed invention is truly unique, and if it appears to be, can file an application, including detailed drawings and specificatio

#Fewer law school graduates pass bar exam in California - LA Times
Has the bar gotten harder, or have law school graduates become less capable?
For the first time in nearly a decade, most law school graduates who took the summer California bar exam failed, adding to the pressure on law schools already dealing with plummeting enrollments, complaints about student debt and declining job prospects.
The 48.6% pass rate in California is a drop of nearly 7 percentage points from the previous year; nearly 8,500 people took the test in July. The last time the passage rate dipped below half was in 2005.
Many other states showed similar declines this year. It's unclear why the recent passage rates are so low, but they fell by at least 5 percentage points in 20 states.
All [factors] point to the fact that the group that sat in July 2014 was less able than the group that sat in July 2013. - Erica Moeser, head of the National Conference of Bar Examiners, in a mem

Most Common Immigration Law Issues:

- Removal or Deportation
- Temporary Visas
An immigration marriage is when a non-citizen (immigrant) gains U.S. citizenship by marrying an American citizen. Most immigrant spouses first enter the country through a fianc visa (K-1 visa) or a permanent visa. The fianc visa allows a non-citizen to enter the country to marry his or her fianc , while the permanent visa is intended for non-citizens who have already married an American citizen. The permanent visa, a conditional green card, allows the immigrant to remain in the U.S. while he or she goes through the full green card application process.
A fianc visa can be obtained by getting married to a U.S citizen. If a non-citizen wants to be eligible for a fianc visa, they do not even have to intend to live permanently in the United States after the marriage. The option to stay in the United States and

#Federal Labor Laws
Learn about the federal laws that regulate the relationship between management and unions.
The federal laws broadly regulating unions —and the amendments to those laws—have dramatically changed the look and function of unions over time. The changing laws have also acted as political mirrors, alternately protecting employees from unfair labor practices and protecting employers from unfair union practices as unions’ influence in the workplace has ebbed and flowed.
The National Labor Relations Act
Labor unions secured the legal right to represent employees in their relationships with their employers when the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), passed in 1935. That federal act also created the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to police the relationships among employees, their unions, and their employers.
Under the NLRA, an employer may not:

How much will a lawyer cost? Here are the various ways that private criminal lawyers charge for their work.
One of the first questions you're likely to ask an attorney whom you're considering hiring is, "What will this cost?" Here's the low-down on how criminal defense attorneys charge for their services, which vary according to such factors as:
The probable complexity of the case. Most attorneys charge more for felonies than for misdemeanors, because felonies carry greater penalties, often require more court appearances, demand more preparation, and so on.
The attorney’s experience. Generally, less experienced attorneys set lower fees than their more experienced colleagues. Yup your big girl still needs a boost, and will til she s 4 9 tall, according to booster car seat laws. The booster seat s job is to ensure that your car s safety belts fit your child correctly. The lap belt needs to fit snugly across her upper thighs, and the shoulder belt should go across the middle of her chest (without cutting into her neck, slipping over her shoulder, or being slipped under her arm). This won t happen without a booster until she reaches that magic 4 9 height. For most kids, that s somewhere around age eight but sometimes it s even later than that. Keep in mind that a lap/shoulder belt alone won t keep her safe in a crash and could put her at risk for serious injuries.
First off, every child should say snug in a car seat and facing the rear as long as possible, until she's at least two years old. When she reaches the upper weight limit (30 to 35 pounds) or her head hits less than an inch from the top of the seat, it's okay to face the car seat f

The sustained popularity of this Legal dictionary since its appearance (like Bouvier?s Law Dictionary in the XIX Century) it was attributed to the scholarship and Learning of Henry Campbell Black, and to the plan adopted by him for the compilation of a legal lexicon. Now the editor is Bryan Garner, a lexicographer.
Black s is the last standing comprehensive American Legal dictionary intended for a wide audience. Unlike Bouvier s and Ballantine s, which have not been updated in decades, Black s is supported by the West/Thomson legal publishing behemoth and benefits from the resources that publisher provides. The dictionary has been translated into (of all languages) Urdu.(89. Qanuni, Angrezi- Urdu lughat: Blaiks la dikshanari se makhuz (2002) (published by Islamabad: Muqtadirah-yi Qaumi Zaban).
Some authors recommend the fourth edition of Black’s because the fifth edition leans away

A drunk driver once smashed into his car at 60 miles an hour, leaving him with severe and permanent nerve damage in his right hand, yet he still apprehended the suspect. My father is now retired, but I know he often wishes he could go back to serving the public every single day.

Ratings Rankings
What do these ratings mean?
from Brian Dalton, Breaking Media Director of Research
The ATL School and Firm Insiders Survey asks self-identified current students, alumni, and practicing lawyers to rate major aspects of life at their law school (academics, social life, clinical training, career services, financial aid advising) and/or law firm (compensation, hours, morale, culture, training). We then translate these ratings into letter grades, where the mean score for each particular ratings category is the equivalent of a “B.”
