1. Attach the wooden block to the center of the nonreflective side of the mirror using double-sided tape such that the mirror will stand vertical and upright when placed on the horizontal poster board.
2. Place a sheet of legal-size paper in the center of the styrofoam poster board. Draw a line width-wise across the center of the paper. Set the block and mirror assembly such that the back (nonreflective) edge of the mirror rests along this line. Be mindful to keep the mirror in this orientation throughout the duration of the exercise (see pictures a and b below).
3. Assemble the three pins in the field of the mirror's view by pushing them through the paper and into the styrofoam board such that they are approximately 5 cm distant from one another. Draw three lines connecting the positions of the pins on the paper such that the resulting figure is a triangle. The pins, therefore, should occupy the vertices of the triangle. The images of the pins should be clearly visi

#Shoplifting Crimes: Laws, Charges and Penalties
Talk to a Criminal Defense Lawyer
Shoplifting offenses are fairly common, but that doesn't mean shoplifting crimes aren't taken seriously. Every state's penal code includes provisions that apply to shoplifting (usually under the umbrella of theft or larceny statutes), and penalties can be harsh -- especially when the dollar value of the merchandise is high, or the offender has a criminal record.
This article provides introductory information on shoplifting, including the kinds of acts that might constitute shoplifting, how shoplifting is charged, and when shoplifters can be sued under civil liability laws. At the end of this article you’ll find links to state-specific shoplifting laws and information.
What is Shoplifting?
Shoplifting is typically defined more broadly than the simple removal of merchandise from a store without paying for it. You can also be charged with shoplifting (or retail fraud)

#So That Was Law - Order - s GamerGate Episode
When Law Order: SVU takes on video games, the results are usually not pretty. Tonight's episode—a GamerGate special—was no exception.
They're playing a game, Ice-T's character says at one point, referencing a group of misogynistic terrorists who have kidnapped a female video game developer. We've gotta play too.
If just reading that line made you cringe, you probably don't want to watch this episode, which is simultaneously horrific (said game developer is beaten and held at gunpoint) and embarrassing (at one point, a character calls people FALs, an acronym that Ice-T says stands for Fails At Life ).
It's corny, terrifying shlock that demonizes hardcore gamers and turns complicated conversations over misogyny in gaming into a cartoon caricature of good vs. evil. Even as SVU's writers imagined up a terrifying, totally feasible kidnapping scenario, they just

#Shoplifting Law.
What is Shoplifting Law?
Shoplifting law deals with theft crimes that occur in retail establishments. Perpetrators are shoppers who enter the establishment with permission. They will either conceal merchandise and leave the store without paying, or fraudulently manipulate an items packaging in order to pay less than the true price. Merely concealing property with the intent to deprive the owner is sufficient to constitute the crime of shoplifting in most jurisdictions, even if the perpetrator does not succeed in removing the property from the premises.
Laws prohibiting shoplifting are found in state and municipal penal codes. Penalties include jail time, fines, court fees, and any number of probationary terms such as restitution and community service. The particular sentence handed down in a given case will depend primarily on the dollar value of the property taken. Sentences may be more severe in light of aggravating factors like previous

#Six of the best law books
Sponsored by:
The Rule of Law by Tom Bingham
Whatever did inquiring legal minds read before Lord Bingham published The Rule of Law? This slim volume has rapidly become the book Guardian-reading lawyers are most likely to recommend to anyone interested in the profession. As Joshua Rozenberg put it. Bingham's definition of that much-used term is now entirely authoritative and will probably remain so for the next 120 years or more. In summary, it is 'that all persons and authorities within the state, whether public or private, should be bound by and entitled to the benefit of laws publicly made, taking effect (generally) in the future and publicly administered in the courts.'
Letters to a Law Student by Nicholas McBride
Dear Sam, I hope you don't mind me writing to you in this way. The only book to receive as many nominations as Bingham's was Letters to a Law Student, by All Souls fellow and director of studies at Pembr

#Shoplifting laws
"Shoplifting" generally refers to the theft of merchandise from a store or place of business. Shoplifting is a type of larceny. which simply means taking the property of someone else without their permission, and with the intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property taken.
Though states may punish shoplifting under their general larceny or theft statutes, many states have enacted statutes to specifically address shoplifting. States may refer to the crime by different names, including "retail theft" and "concealment of merchandise."
These state laws vary widely, but generally, shoplifting offenses includes two elements:
1. willfully concealing or taking possession of items being offered for sale; and
2. the intent to deprive the items' rightful owner (typically the store) of possession of the items, without paying the purchase price.
Crucially, this means that in most states, one can break shoplifting laws without

A Eurobarometer survey (3 MB) of March 2009 found 84% of EU citizens in favour of smoke-free offices and other indoor workplaces, 79% in favour of smoke-free restaurants, and 61% supporting smoke-free bars and pubs.
Protecting EU citizens from passive smoking

Among these, Ireland, the UK, Greece, Bulgaria, Malta, Spain and Hungary have the strictest smoke-free provisions with a complete ban on smoking in enclosed public places, on public transport and in workplaces, with only limited exceptions allowed.

#Slander legal definition of slander
slander
n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed. Slander is a civil wrong (tort) and can be the basis for a lawsuit. Damages (payoff for worth) for slander may be limited to actual (special) damages unless there is malicious intent, since such damages are usually difficult to specify and harder to prove. Some statements such as an untrue accusation of having committed a crime, having a loathsome disease, or being unable to perform one's occupation are treated as slander per se since the harm and malice are obvious, and therefore usually result in general and even punitive damage recovery by the person harmed. Words spoken over the air on television or radio are treated as libel (written defamation) and not slander on the theory that broadcasting reaches a large audience as much if not more than printed publications. Ten Reasons to Implement a Drug-Free Workplace Policy
Most drug users are employed, and when they arrive for work, they don’t leave their problems at the door. Some costs—increased absences, accidents and errors—are obvious. Others, such as low morale and high illness rates, are less so, but their effects may be equally harmful. Small businesses are often burdened with the costs from drug users since smaller employers often do not have the resources to address the problem.
In fact, according to the United State Department of Labor, 87% of full-time employed illicit drug users work for businesses having less than 500 employees. Over 40% work for businesses with less than 25 employees. To protect your business and employees, consider the following ten reasons to establish a drug-free workplace policy.

#Specific State Laws Against Bullying
Every state has passed some sort of law or policy regarding bullying. Montana is the only state that has passed a statewide policy discussing bullying without having enacted a statute specifically prohibiting it. All other states have at least passed a law defining bullying and authorizing school officials or other authorities to take appropriate action to stop it. There is currently no federal law specifically addressing bullying, but other federal laws, such as civil rights and nondiscrimination laws, may require schools to intervene with certain types of bullying.
Although anti-bullying laws vary from state to state. they generally focus on listing the specific behaviors that constitute bullying. These behaviors can include teasing, threats, intimidation, stalking, harassment, physical violence, theft, and public humiliation. sports law: an overview
Sports Law encompasses a multitude areas of law brought together in unique ways. Issues such as antitrust, contracts, and torts are quite common. For further information in these areas see:
Sports Law can be roughly divided into the areas of amateur, professional, and international sports. The distinction between a professional and amateur athlete is somewhat tenuous. So-called "amateur" student/athletes at universities often receive scholarships and other forms of compensation. Also, keep in mind that even though an athlete may be defined as an amateur by one organization, he or she may not be an amateur according to another. Of course, this leads to even more confusion. A simplistic, yet useful definition is that amateur athletes participate in sports as an avocation while professional athletes are involved in sports as a vocation.

The foreclosure process varies somewhat from state to state, and depends primarily on whether the state uses mortgages or deeds of trust for the purchase of real property. Generally, states that use mortgages conduct judicial foreclosures; states that use deeds of trust conduct non-judicial foreclosures. The principal difference between the two is that the judicial procedure requires court action on a foreclosed home.
The below table represents our current knowledge of which states use mortgages (judicial) or deeds of trust (non-judicial) or both. The table also includes estimated foreclosure timelines for each state. Please check with your local county government to verify this information. Inform us of any errors at info@realtytrac.com.

The foreclosure process in each state is governed, in large part, by that state’s foreclosure laws. Each state’s foreclosure law is different. By reviewing your state’s foreclosure law, you can find out:
- how much notice you are entitled to before your home is sold in a foreclosure

Earn a law degree. To become an attorney in the United States it is a requirement that one receive a law degree, called a Juris Doctor. You do not have to take the bar exam in the same state that you attend law school. The Juris Doctor is received after the undergraduate degree and is typically a three-year course of study. Law schools in the United States are accredited by the American Bar Association.
There are several joint-degree programs that allow for greater specialization, such as the J.D./Masters of Science in Cultural Foundations of Education with an optional Certificate in Disability Studies offered by Syracuse University in New York and a J.D./Ph.D. in Education Law with an optional emphasis in Special Education at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. These are not prerequisites to the practice of special education law, however.

#Stalking Legislation
Anti-stalking legislation was first introduced in 1990 in California. Since then, most English speaking jurisdictions have introduced some form of legislation prohibiting stalking behaviour, either using the word stalking or the word harassment to describe the behaviour. Some non-English speaking countries, particularly in Europe, have also introduced anti-stalking legislation more recently, or are considering introducing such legislation in the near future. If you’re unsure of whether or the jurisdiction in which you live or work has stalking legislation in place, see our list of international anti-stalking laws or contact your local legislature or police force to ask about the presence of stalking or harassment laws.
Even where anti-stalking laws have not been enacted, stalking behaviour still occurs and can still cause great harm. If you are being stalked and there is no anti-stalking or anti-harassment law in your jurisdiction, other legislation, s

#Stand-your-ground gun laws benefit whites more than blacks, experts say
Stand-your-ground statutes benefit whites more than blacks, are unnecessary and cause minority men to live in fear, several experts said Friday to the US civil rights commission as it evaluates racial disparities in the laws.
But one dissenter, an African American lawmaker from South Carolina, said the law benefits black defendants by putting in place an extra hurdle in the way of arrest by police officers who may have hidden racial biases.
“Stand your ground, the way I intended when I voted for it, it’s meant so people don’t have to live in fear,” said Democratic state Representative Todd Rutherford.
Rutherford’s voice was in the minority among more than a dozen experts who testified before the US commission on civil rights in Orlando during their only “field” hearing outside of their base in Washington. Stand-your-ground laws provide that individuals have no duty to retreat from a pla

The state name is a link to the traffic laws of the state, or maybe to the general legislative information page, or maybe to the state home page. If the state doesn't have useful information online or I got tired of typing there is no link. If there is a link in the "limit" column it points to information about speed limits in the state: a summary I wrote, the relevant law, or an official DOT web page. For some states I have included links to an online driver's manual. These manuals are not laws and may contain incorrect statements of law. If you have CSS enabled in your browser, the more anti-speed laws should show up with red borders.

#Strict Liability: Dog-Bite Statutes
More than half the states have statutes that make dog owners liable if their dogs cause injury.
More than half the states make dog owners liable if their dogs cause injury, whether or not the owner had reason to think the dog was dangerous. Although commonly called dog-bite statutes, many of these state laws cover all kinds of dog-inflicted injuries, not just bites. They are called "strict liability" statutes because they impose liability without fault—that is, an injured person does not have to prove that the dog owner did anything wrong. (In other states, the "one-bite rule " applies.)
The theory behind these laws is that anyone who has a dog should be responsible for any damage it causes, period. It doesn't matter that the owner was careful with the dog, or didn't know it would hurt anyone, or tried to keep it from injuring anyone.

#Statutes Definition
The written laws approved by legislatures, parliaments or elected or appointed houses of assembly.
Also called:
States. through their respective governments. have, generally, two methods of determining the law as regards the conduct of their citizens. One is to support the development of law through local customs, traditionally: the common law .
But the common law gives tremendous law-moulding powers to the discretion of judges; un-elected individuals, a power they have always been reluctant to surrender. That attitude is reflected in these words of Justice Travers Humphreys (1867-1956):
"The common law is founded on common sense and is the glory of this country (England). The other law is made by politicians." 1
The common law has some flexibility built into it whereas a statute, once enacted, continues in full force and effect until it is repealed. As Professor Allen said in Law in the Making :

#Study of the Post Grant Procedures Is Needed Now.
The procedures created by the America Invents Act (AIA) for challenging patents at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) have now been in place for a couple of years. These procedures include: Inter Partes Review (IPR); Post Grant Review (PGR) and Covered Business Methods (CBM). As of June 2015, over 3500 petitions had been filed for the combined procedures. The numbers are way above what the Office expected, but the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) has been churning through the petitions at a rapid rate. The new methods for challenging patents are statutorily required to be completed within a year of institution in most cases, so we are beginning to collect data and discern patterns from those settled or decided cases.
We are seeing that when the claims are considered individually, the PTAB is instituting the procedures 70% of the time and that once instituted, most claims will not survive the procedur

Surrogacy contracts aren’t enforced by UK law, even if you’ve a signed deal with your surrogate and have paid for her expenses.
It’s illegal to pay a surrogate in the UK, except for their reasonable expenses.
Father’s rights
The child’s legal father or ‘second parent’ will be the surrogate’s husband or partner unless:
- legal rights are given to someone else through a parental order or adoption
- the surrogate’s husband or civil partner didn’t give their permission to their wife or partner

#Stokes law
When any object rises or falls through a fluid it will experience a viscous drag, whether it is a parachutist or spacecraft falling through air, a stone falling through water or a bubble rising through fizzy lemonade. The mathematics of the viscous drag on irregular shapes is difficult; we will consider here only the case of a falling sphere. The formula was first suggested by Stokes and is therefore known as Stokes' law.
Consider a sphere falling through a viscous fluid. As the sphere falls so its velocity increases until it reaches a velocity known as the terminal velocity. At this velocity the frictional drag due to viscous forces is just balanced by the gravitational force and the velocity is constant (shown by Figure 2).
If the density of the material of the sphere is r and that of the liquid , then
effective gravitational force = weight - upthrust = 4/3 r 3 ( – )]
Therefore we have for the viscosity ( ):

#Ten Signs You re Being Bullied At Work
Chances are if you work with others, youll be bullied at some point in your career.
In the U.S. where the practice is being studied, an estimated 37% of workers, or about 54 million people, have been bullied at the office, or repeatedly mistreated in a health-harming way, according to a 2007 Zogby International survey. The percentage balloons to 49% of workers, 71.5 million people, when witnesses are included.
The problem is, however, unless you’re at the receiving end of severe abuse, you’re unlikely to realize it.
Experts say there’s a general lack of awareness about the bullying and the types of behaviors the term encompasses. This often prevents people from realizing that a boss or co-worker is a bully. There’s also an element of personal shame involved.
“They’re sinking into a really bad state emotionally, finding it harder to go to work and it might even affect their job performance,” says David Yamada,

#Surrogate babies: Where can you have them, and is it legal? BBC News
Surrogacy laws vary from country to country, which can leave children vulnerable
The case of Gammy, a baby with Down's syndrome who was born to a Thai surrogate mother and allegedly left behind by the intended Australian parents, has caused international controversy. Where do people go to arrange for surrogate babies, and is it legal?
What is surrogacy?
Surrogacy is where a woman becomes pregnant with the intention of handing over the child to someone else after giving birth. Generally, she carries the baby for a couple or parent who cannot conceive a child themselves - they are known as "intended parents".
There are two forms of surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother's egg is used, making her the genetic mother. In gestational surrogacy, the egg is provided by the intended mother or a donor. The egg is fertilised through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and then

Yeah, but how much do those FL law schools cost? I think money is a big reason someone might want to go to an online school. At $7,920.00 per year, it s affordable. Not to mention the fact that one can do it while working or while abroad.
Ok, I did some research on this. I hope it clears up the accreditation question.
Taft Law School is accredited through the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. This is the national accrediting body that accredits distance learning schools, allowing them to legally bestow degrees to their students. This accreditation body is 100% legitimate and recognized by the U.S. government. If you go to FAFSA.org, and type in Taft you will see Taft University System (of which Taft Law School is a part) show up. This is evidence that it is a legitimate, accredited schoo

29 U.S.C. §651 et seq. (1970)
Congress passed the Occupational and Safety Health Act to ensure worker and workplace safety. Their goal was to make sure employers provide their workers a place of employment free from recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions.
In order to establish standards for workplace health and safety, the Act also created the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as the research institution for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor that oversees the administration of the Act and enforces standards in all 50 states.

Exponents are short forms used to represent a set of repeated factors.
$3^<6>$ is used to represent 3 multiplied to itself six times. i.e 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3. In $3^<6>$, the number 3 is called the Base and the number 6 is called the exponent or power.
The exponent is defined as a number which is used to represent the number of times a given number has to be multiplied by itself. Exponents could also be defined as the operation in raising a particular number to a power in multiplication and in which all the factors are equal.
The expression of 8 $^<3>$ means that three 8’s are to be multiplied with each other. Similarly, 6 $^<2>$ would mean 6 x 6. The relevant power of any particular number is the number by itself.
The power is defined as the number of times the number is to be taken as one of the factor. The method of finding a root is nothing but the inverse of raising a number to a power.

#Study Unit: When Does a Theory Become a Law?
When Does a Theory Become a Law?
This is something that comes up quite frequently in discussions between scientists and the general public. How much proof does it take for a theory to graduate to being a law?
Because the words theory and law have such different meanings in the language of science, it is often a difficult question to answer, so instead, I'll start by giving you a few similar questions to answer.
- How perfectly do you have to build a house so that it will become a single brick?
- How well do you have to write to change an entire dictionary into a single word?
- What would you have to do to change an entire symphony into a single note?
If you are thinking that those questions don't make much sense, then you are feeling very much like a scientist who has been asked "How much proof does it take for a theory to graduate to being a law?" A house

#Supreme Court Strikes Down Unconstitutional ‘Three Strikes’ Law
The controversial “three strikes” law has come before the Supreme Court no less than five times in past seven years.
The court justices has now decided that the constitutionality of the law needs to be weighed in on.
Justice Antonin Scalia explained the court’s decision to declare the provision unconstitutional, noting that there is nothing in place that would ensure this law would be carried out fairly or in an nondiscriminatory manner.
Scalia wrote, for the 8-1 majority, that “it has been said that the life of the law is experience. Nine years’ experience trying to derive meaning from the residual clause convinces us that we have embarked upon a failed enterprise.”
Samuel Alito, argued a dissenting opinion, saying that the man in the case before them – Samuel James Johnson – was a violent offender who should be punished severely.
Both Justices Kennedy and Thomas agreed with th

#Supreme Court upholds nationwide health care law subsidies
Associated Press 6/25/2015 MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the nationwide tax subsidies underpinning President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, rejecting a major challenge to the landmark law in a ruling that preserves health insurance for millions of Americans.
The justices said in a 6-3 ruling that the subsidies that 8.7 million people currently receive to make insurance affordable do not depend on where they live, as opponents contended.
The outcome was the second major victory for Obama in politically charged Supreme Court tests of his most significant domestic achievement. And it came the same day the court gave him an unexpected victory by preserving a key tool the administration uses to fight housing bias.
Obama greeted news of the decision by declaring the health care law "is here to stay." He said the law is no longer about p
