#State of Michigan Job Opportunities

Required Education and Experience:

1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED Certificate;

2. Must be a United States citizen;

3. Must be at least 21 years of age before graduation from the Academy;

4. Must be a resident of the State of Michigan before graduation from the Academy;

5. High School Diploma or GED Certificate;

6. Possession of a valid driver s license and the ability to obtain a valid Michigan driver s license, without restrictions (except corrective lenses);

7. Must possess a satisfactory driving record;

9. Normal hearing in both ears;

10. Absence of felony and/or misdemeanor convictions which would prohibit the applicant from receiving, possessing, and carrying a firearm;

11. Participate in a background investigation to measure suitability for law enforcement work; and

12. Pass a pre-employment drug test.

Written Examination

The three-hour examination evaluates the knowledge, skills, and abilities related to critical elements of law enforcement positions. This video examination consists of three test sections:

Section 1: Human Relations and Judgment,

Section 2: Writing, and

Section 3: Reading.

The Michigan Civil Service Commission does not endorse any study materials or courses.

Examination Scheduling

This free examination is administered only on weekdays in Detroit, Ironwood, Lansing, Marquette, and Sault Saint Marie. There is no out-of-state testing.

Applicants will receive an Examination Admission Notice, by email, with the date, time, and location for the examination (check your spam/junk folder for the michigan.gov email address). When completing the application, be sure to enter a CORRECT and WORKING email address that you check often. Also, please check for spelling.

Applicants unable to take the examination on the scheduled date and time, or location, may reschedule as described in the emailed Examination Admission Notice.

Current state employees should contact their Human Resources Office for the department s policy on administrative leave to take Civil Service examinations.

If you fail the test, the re-take time period is six months from the last test date.
