A Law degree is the degree conferred on someone who successfully completes studies in law. However many law degrees are insufficient education for a license to practice law by the administrative body of that jurisdiction. For example in England and Wales one needs to complete the Legal Practice Course to become a solicitor [ 1 ] [ 2 ] or called to the bar to be a barrister. [ 3 ]
The first academic degrees were all law degrees, and the first law degrees were doctorates. The origins of the doctorate lie in the ijazat attadris wa 'l-ifta' ("license to teach and issue legal opinions") in the Islamic madrasahs from the 9th century. [ 4 ] The foundations of the first universities in Europe were the glossators of the 11th century, which were schools of law. [ 5 ] The first European university, that of Bologna. was founded as a school of law by four famous legal scholars in the 12th century who were students of the glossator school in that city. It is from

Contracts are promises that the law will enforce. The law provides remedies if a promise is breached or recognizes the performance of a promise as a duty. Contracts arise when a duty does or may come into existence, because of a promise made by one of the parties. To be legally binding as a contract, a promise must be exchanged for adequate consideration. Adequate consideration is a benefit or detriment which a party receives which reasonably and fairly induces them to make the promise/contract. For example, promises that are purely gifts are not considered enforceable because the personal satisfaction the grantor of the promise may receive from the act of giving is normally not considered adequate consideration. Certain promises that are not considered contracts may, in limited circumstances, be enforced if one party has relied to his detriment on the assurances of the other party.
Contracts are mainly governed by state statutory and common (judge-made) law and private law.

#Law School Must Be Debunked: TTT, Correspondence Schools, and - Read-Only.
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
TTT, Correspondence Schools, and Read-Only
There is a maxim I live by: good is good; bad is bad. As insipid as this sounds, it works. There is a naive mentality that believes that if a concert pianist practices on a lousy piano, he or she will be all that much better when playing a good piano. Wrong. It doesn t work that way, and I shouldn t have to explain this any further.
Same thing with law schools. If you have a really sharp legal mind, you can t expect to go to a crappy college and be their star student. A crappy college usually holds the good people back (bad is bad).
Unfortunately, this does not hold in the legal world mentality with its LSAT exams and class rankings. The legal world tends to think of education as a humongous footrace. Once someone says go," the fastest law student will always prevail. Unfortunately, this mentality cause

Known as an innovative, business-oriented law school, Northwestern Law offers more to its students than just a prime central Chicago location. With its well-established preference for students with work experience and demonstrated interpersonal skills, the school fosters a professional environment. Employment statistics, though relatively solid, are weaker than most of the traditional top 14 law schools. The total cost of attendance, however, is second-highest, behind only Berkeley for out-of-staters.
One 2L said: "The student body is excellent, most of which has done something interesting before law school. Students tend to bring interesting perspectives into the classroom as a result, and I think this is a major advantage over schools primarily composed of people straight through from undergrad."
Northwestern Law places a heavy emphasis on global enterprises and practical learning and has highly regarded study abroad, clinical, and interdisciplinary programs in the

to obtain jobs as lawyers.
The basic premise underlying our unique approach to ranking schools: the "new normal" for the legal job market is no longer new, it's just normal. Going to law school no longer guarantees graduates a good job, or even just a job. Given the cost of law school, potential students should prioritize their future job prospects over all other factors in deciding whether and where to attend law school. The relative quality of schools is a function of how they deliver on the promise of gainful legal employment and other desirable results. So in addition to focusing exclusively on such outcomes, ours are the only rankings to incorporate the latest ABA employment data concerning the class of .

What is Law of Supply?
Pricing is one of the biggest opportunities and one of the greatest challenges a company faces. If you are creating a price for a product, you must consider how much consumers are willing to pay without underpricing your product. Pricing is a critical aspect of the law of supply.
The law of supply is an economic principle that helps explain how to appropriately price products based on how much supply is available of a product. The law of supply explains that if people are willing to pay more money for a product, a company will produce or manufacture more of that product to capitalize on the increased revenue.
The opposite also holds true that as the price of a

A Michigan court dismissed a lawsuit on Friday brought by former students of Cooley Law School who accused their alma mater of misrepresenting recent graduate job placement statistics.
The former Cooley Law grads were seeking $250 million in damages, claiming they decided to attend Cooley based on what they said was misinformation from the school. Law Blog reported on the case here .
But Judge Gordon Quist, who got the case, wasn’t buying it. The court dismissed lawsuit on the grounds that purchasing a legal degree is not protected by the Michigan Consumer Protection Act.
Even if it was, the job numbers at stake were “literally true” whether they differentiated between recent grads in legal jobs vs. non-legal jobs or not, the court stated, adding that the grads “unreasonably relied upon the representations” in question in their law school decision.
The plaintiffs’ attorney and Cooley Law School’s legal counsel did not immediately re

#Law of torts
definition
tort law: an overview
Torts are civil wrongs recognized by law as grounds for a lawsuit. These wrongs result in an injury or harm constituting the basis for a claim by the injured party. While some torts are also crimes punishable with imprisonment, the primary aim of tort law is to provide relief for the damages incurred and deter others from committing the same harms. The injured person may sue for an injunction to prevent the continuation of the tortious conduct or for monetary damages.(See Damages )
Among the types of damages the injured party may recover are: loss of earnings capacity, pain and suffering, and reasonable medical expenses. They include both present and future expected losses.
Torts fall into three general categories: intentional torts (e.g.. intentionally hitting a person); negligent torts (e.g.. causing an accident by failing to obey traffic rules); and strict liability tort

The degree awarded to an individual upon the successful completion of law school.
Juris doctor, or doctor of Jurisprudence. commonly abbreviated J.D. is the degree commonly conferred by law schools. It is required in all states except California (which includes an option called law office study) to gain Admission to the Bar. Gaining admission to the bar means obtaining a license to practice law in a particular state or in federal court.
Until the 1930s and 1940s, many states did not require a person to have a law school degree in order to obtain a license to practice law. Most lawyers qualified for a license by working as an apprentice for an established attorney for a specified period. By the 1950s most states required a law school degree. State legislatures established this requirement to raise the standards of practicing attorneys and to restrict the number of attorneys. The degree offered by most Colleges and Universities was called a master of laws (L.L.M

Public health attorneys are advocates and advisors for people, communities, government agencies and more.
Public health attorneys are advocates and advisors for people, communities, government agencies and more. As advocates, they will represent a person or entity in various criminal or civil trials and present evidence. In the case of public health law, you may work more in the area of policy development and advocacy than actual court practice of law.
As advisors, public health attorneys will frequently counsel clients about legal rights and obligations, and suggest proper courses of action in business, government and legal matters.
As a public health lawyer, you will be mostly concerned about the laws and policies that are supposed to stop health problems and to promote good health throughout society. A creditor must usually have a judgment before it can execute a writ of garnishment on an employer or financial institution. However, an employer or financial institution might receive a writ of fieri facias that asks it to declare what property it has that belongs to the debtor and in what amount it is indebted to the debtor as a preliminary matter. The creditor sends a writ of garnishment to the employer or financial institution to pay off such debts as consumer credit debts, tax liens, child support, spousal support or student loans. The amount garnished is then forwarded to a court or to the creditor
Instead of garnishing wages, creditors may opt to garnish a debtor's bank account. The only limits on bank garnishment are for exemptions that mirror the federal laws on exemptions, such as not being able to garnish federal benefits. Exemptions under Louisiana law also include income from Individual Retirement Accounts, annuity contracts and pensions, meaning that a creditor

Having an unhealthy obsession with another person can sometimes lead to irrational and dangerous behavior. These actions can include following the subject around or regularly sending him unwanted gifts or letters. While this behavior may start out harmless, it becomes the crime of stalking in Florida if it causes the victim emotional distress.
In Florida, harassment and stalking are not separate offenses. Instead, the state recognizes stalking as a crime, with harassment being an activity that can lead to a person being arrested and convicted of stalking. Harassment involves a course of conduct directed at a person that serves no legitimate purpose but to cause emotional distress. An example might be sending threatening letters to a person every day. Stalking is not limited to harassment alone and can include repeatedly following a person around. It can also include cyberstalking, which involves using email or other electronic communications to harass a person.

#Law School Requirements for Admissions: Getting into Law School
You already know what the basic law school requirements are for admissions (at least at most schools; online law schools and unaccredited law schools are their own beasts entirely): (1) undergraduate GPA, (2) LSAT, (3) law school personal statement. (4) recommendations ; (5) some other miscellaneous, pointless papers about your work history like a law school resume ; and (6) a check for $50 or $100 or something.
But not all of these law school requirements were created equal.

#Law School Offers Free Tuition To 50 Applicants
We know the new economics for middle-tier law schools. Applications are down, so to convince students with good test scores to come to your school, you have to offer them money. It s the market, imperfect though it may be, at work.
So when a law school offers full scholarships to a number of students with strong academic credentials, don t think that it s doing you a favor. They re trying to fill their seats, not trying to address the fundamental cost problem of law school. If a law school is offering scholarships to high-performing students, that means that the low-performing students who are paying full price are subsidizing the people in their class who are most likely to bust up the curve. Addressing the value proposition of law school involves lowering tuition for all students, not making law school free for the kids with potentially better options.
That said, there s nothing wrong with a little price co

Law school books, study aids, outlines, torts textbooks, old exams, Glannon: The Law Of Torts: Examples And Explanations, Crunch Time, Emanuel Law Outlines, Siegel's study aid, Cases and Materials on the Law.
For the best law school study aids I recommend the Torts Examples and Explanations and the Siegels study aids. There is a list of outlines below that you can go over but you really need to develop your own outline. Use these only as a guide and to be sure you have not missed anything. The torts essay is where you need to pick out and discuss the issues. Your torts professor has a grading sheet and has assigned a value to each issue. The key is to recognize and then discuss each issue in the short amount of time allotted. The best way is to go over old tort exams and do a timed practice.

#Law schools are in a death spiral. Maybe now they - ll finally change. The Washington Post

“March madness” holds a different meaning in the legal world. While most of the country looks forward to fast breaks and Cinderella upsets, law schools are bracing themselves for another type of madness: the annual carnage left by the U.S. News World Report rankings.
This year’s rankings drop on March 10. to be followed by the usual chaos. Deans at highly placed law schools will issue news releases; deans with less fortunate rankings will have their already hectic lives turned upside down. The lucky ones will get fired. The unlucky ones will have to deal with the fallout. A flood of e-mails. Emergency faculty meetings. Ad Hoc Committees on Law School

Generally, if a person has a physical or psychological (mental) disability that causes him/her to be unable to do any kind of work for which he/she is suited (given the person s age, education, and work experience) and the disability is expected either to last for at least one year or to result in death, then that person will be considered disabled for Social Security purposes.
Social Security administers four separate benefit programs for individuals with disabilities: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income, Disabled Widows and Widowers benefits (DWB), and Disabled Adult Child Benefits (DAC). The medical requirements to prove disability, as well as the process for making disability determinations, are the same for each program.
Many people confuse the Social Security Disability Insurance ( SSDI ) and Supplemental Security Income ( SSI ) programs. The differences between them are as follows:

#Law Schools - Law Colleges
Law Schools
Do you enjoy persuasion, negotiation, critical thinking, writing, judgment, and decision making? If you do, then a career in law may be for you. In order to practice law, you must attend a law school.
In order to apply to law school, you must have a four-year bachelor's degree from a college or university. After you complete law school, which takes three years, you will take a test called a bar exam. A bar exam ensures that you have learned enough to practice law. Once you have passed the bar exam, you can join a law practice, or set up your own practice.
Many lawyers study specific types of law and decide to specialize in a certain area. Environmental law, family law, intellectual property law, international and comparative law, and litigation are just a few of the areas of specialization that law schools can prepare the lawyer for.
It is common when applying to law schools to use the undergraduate degree t

#Law Schools Beat Colleges At Lowering Tuition
How Smart Traffic Lights Could Transform Your Commute
What Law Schools Can Teach Colleges about Lowering Tuition
Administrators are being forced to cut prices as fewer students apply to law school, thanks to fewer jobs in legal, but the rate of tuition increases at other colleges and universities shows no sign of slowing down
Two years into his presidency at Roger Williams University, Donald Farish still could not understand why its law school was charging students $41,400 a year. With law schools seeing huge declines in applicants as legal jobs dried up, something needed to be done. It was time we confronted the reality, Farish said.
So the law school slashed its tuition by 18 percent this year, adding Roger Williams to a long list of law schools trying to bring back students by doing something extraordinary with their prices: lowering them.
Law schools at public universities dropped their

UMass Law: of Sterling Vision and Silver Spoons
Once upon a time, long ago, UMass Law was a stable, rising law school in a sea of resizing, confused law schools:
"Other schools are losing enrollment and decreasing their academic indicators," Bilek said. "To be stable and be increasing academic quality, at a time when nationally legal education is trying to figure out what to do, I would say is where we want to be.
"Every law school in the country has to resize, unless you started out the right size. We just came in at that moment where we could start out at the right size. That was Dean Mary Lu Bilek, quoted in an article published September 21, 2014. And there's more!
If and when UMass Law is granted full accreditation, Bilek said she'd like to double enrollment. You have to admire the moxie here. With dozens of public law schools, and numerous

Different professors typically focus on a specific area of the law that governs particular rights, behaviors, or procedures.
Participants in these programs should expect to be exposed to the following areas of knowledge:
Civil procedure is the study of how lawsuits work and the rules under which they are litigated. Topics covered include the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the jurisdiction of federal courts, how a party can plead their case and argue for dismissal or summary judgment, and the rules governing class action lawsuits.
Students also explore the Federal government's powers in relation to basic rights granted to individuals and states. This includes the basis for the division of the branches of government,

The terms lawyer and law school can have a wide range of positive and negative effects. Unfortunately, lawyers have acquired a bad reputation in the U.S. They are often associated with ambulance chasing, dishonesty, and vengeful suing for millions of dollars. Many people overlook a lawyer s power for goodA?a?¬a??to defend the innocent, engage against crime, and mediate in civil problems. Law school is also infamously difficult and dry for some. Getting a law degree, however, doesn t limit your options to a courtroom attorney.
To begin with, you should be proficient with reading, writing, and speaking. Research, logical thinking and analyzing, and negotiation skills are good to have or cultivate. Experience in the field can be very helpful also, especially to come out on top of keen competition. You could participate on the debate team, part-time clerkship at a law firm or government agency, clinical programs at your school, writing for a legal journal, or practice trials.

If you are getting into a custody battle - in Texas or in any place in the world - the key thing to aim for is to avoid taking it to court.
Certainly there are some cases where a court case is unavoidable, but in so many cases the only real winners are the legal professionals, who are paid handsomely for their work in helping an estranged couple tear eachother to pieces.
Make no mistake about it, when a custody dispute goes to court it is always a dirty business. Your chances of winning depend entirely upon your ability to convince the judge that you are a fit and capable parent, while your former partner is as incompetant and unloving as a care-giver as you are competant and compassionate.
Certainly there are times when, for the sake of the safety of the child, the failings of your former partner need to be put on public record, but in the vast majority of cases, if you can resist the temptation to try and publicly humiliate your former spouse, you will have

Apart from this, there is only a handful of LI solution providers out there, making huge profits and having the monopoly on this specific market. The main tool of this apparent monopoly is a big effort to withhold the freedom of information and portray Lawful Interception as an extremely complicated solution. On top of that, operators are obliged by law to have their networks provide LI functionality for Law Enforcement Agencies. We have decided to put a stop to all this. The growth in India's retail sector has grown as fast as it has in the last decade for three reasons: Indian citizens have, overall, become richer due to the growing economy and therefore have more disposable income. Following this growing income has been a growing desire for non-essential goods. Since India doesn't have as organized a retail sector, it is easier to find and buy goods from independent retailers. The most popular sectors of the retail industry in India are the food and mobile phone sectors, and as a result, competition is quite fierce and takes the form of pricing wars, ultimately benefiting the customer.
This part is concerned with the concept of contracts for the sale of goods (not, in this case, physical contracts but rather verbal agreements between the buyer and the seller). With these, the seller must transfer or agree to transfer ownership of a good to a buyer for the pre-agreed price, with the agreement either being absolute or conditional, i.e. subje

In the United States, workers and laborers are protected by a complex series of laws and regulations. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of their rights in the workplace; some get grossly taken advantage of, and others are mistreated without realizing that they have legal recourses at their disposal. If you work in the United States, it is critical to be aware of your rights, to protect them - and to seek the assistance of qualified legal counsel when you are unable to do so on your own.
Unlawful workplace issues cover a wide array of scenarios. A few of the most common of these include:
- Unlawful Termination - Depending on the specifics of the law of your state - and on whether or not you fall into a protected class - your termination could be considered unlawful. Your former employer will never volunteer this information, though, so legal representation is essential in such situations.

#Laws of Inertia: Definition - Formula
Definition
Imagine a spacecraft moving through space. When the engines are turned off, the spacecraft will coast through space at the same speed and in the same direction. The book and the spacecraft have inertia. Inertia is the property of an object that resists changes in its motion. Because of inertia, an object at rest tends to stay at rest. An object in motion tends to keep moving at a constant speed in a straight line.
Newton's First Law
As shown in the picture above, a golf ball has a mass of 0.05 kilogram and the bowling ball has a mass of five kilograms. The bowling ball has 100 times more mass than the golf ball, so it has 100 times more inertia too. Now ask yourself which needs more force to start moving? If you push for same distance, the bowling ball takes MUCH more force to get it moving the same speed as the golf ball. The bowling ball needs more force because a bowling ball h

#Laws Enforced by EEOC
This law makes it illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex. The law also makes it illegal to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit. The law also requires that employers reasonably accommodate applicants' and employees' sincerely held religious practices, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the operation of the employer's business.
This law amended Title VII to make it illegal to discriminate against a woman because of pregnancy, childbirth, or a medical condition related to pregnancy or childbirth. The law also makes it illegal to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit.

#Probate - The Law Society
Search the official database of professionals
When a person dies, someone has to deal with their affairs. This is called 'administering the estate'.
Contents [show]
If the person who has died leaves a will
If the person who has died leaves a will, it will usually name one or more people to act as the executors of the will - that is, to administer their estate.
If you are named as an executor of a will you may need to apply for a grant of probate.
A grant of probate is an official document which the executors may need to administer the estate. It is issued by a section of the court known as the probate registry.
If there is no will
If there is no will (known as dying intestate) the process is more complicated. An application for a grant of letters of administration (an official document, issued by the court, which allows administrators to administer the estate) will need to be m

#Laws of Simplicity
This is from a June 07, 2005 post on my original Simplicity blog that a reader found still exists on the Wayback Machine here .
Brand is an inoperable asset for the customer. It doesn t make your product work any better. Although it does makes a potential consumer desire your product more.
Is it cheaper to improve a product s reliability and functionality? Or is it cheaper to improve a product s desirability? Considering the marginal costs of additional research and development, combined with production, testing, assurance, and so forth, the answer is fairly clear. Investing in advertising is a cost-effective way to increase the profit for an existing product. If the campaign is any good of course.
What determines good ? Is it the copy? Is it the visuals? Is it the celebrity that has been chosen to be the head cheerleader? Seems like there are tons of subjective variables to consider that will ultimately define success or failure
