#Master of Laws (LL. M. ) Program

Overview

The Law School's LL.M. program is strictly a research and writing one designed for people who have already received a basic law degree from an American law school or an equivalent degree (e.g. LL.B.) from a university outside the U.S. The LL.M. is primarily of value to those planning on a career as a legal scholar or researcher. No course work is required (although students must register to get program credit for their research); in fact, degree candidates are actively discouraged from enrolling in courses. Applicants should already have a sufficient education in the field of research to pursue a serious scholarly project.

(If you are interested in the basic American three-year law program, the J.D. degree program, you are at the wrong place; go to JD Admissions .)

The University of Wisconsin Law School's LL.M. program is research-based.

#Massachusetts - Lemon Law

The Used Vehicle Warranty Law protects consumers who buy used vehicles from a dealer or private party in Massachusetts. (M.G.L. c. 90 s. 7N 1/4) The law requires dealers to provide consumers with a written warranty against defects that impair the vehicle's use or safety, and requires private parties to disclose any known use or safety defects.

The Used Vehicle Warranty Law provides you with protections and remedies, including mandatory repairs, refunds, or repurchases. It does not cover all vehicles or all defects, and not all problems will qualify your vehicle for repurchase. If you purchased a vehicle fewer than 14 days ago, the fastest way to get relief may be through the Lemon Aid Law. The law applies to used cars, vans, trucks and demonstration vehicles not covered by the New Car Lemon Law, and which:
  1. are sold by a Massachusetts dealer or private party.
  2. cost at least $700 (dealer sales only).
  3. have fewer than 125,00 ... Read more »

NOTE: You should always consult an attorney in your state or local court for more information on the EVICTION PROCESS.

EVICTIONS: An eviction is a legal proceeding by which the landlord seeks to reclaim the premises (apartment or home) and put the tenant out.

If you are a landlord. you should find out the legal grounds for evicting a tenant as well as the proper notification requirements also known as the EVICTION NOTICE. Eviction laws vary by state or jurisdiction

NOTE: A tenant could receive compensation for costs paid because of unlawful eviction. For a landlord to take legal action against a tenant who does not move out, the landlord must first give written notice to the tenant in accordance with state and local law prior to evicting them. When in doubt consult an attorney who specializes in evictions.

Kansas law Chapter 41 Article 7 sets the state's legal drinking age at 21 years. People under 21 cannot possess, buy or drink alcohol. If a person older than 18 and younger than 21 gets caught drinking, he will face a fine of at least $200. Someone who drinks while under the age of 18 faces a fine of between $200 and $500. All underage drinkers lose their driving privileges for 30 days and may have to perform community service, regardless of whether they were driving when they were caught drinking. The state's laws also make it illegal for an adult to furnish alcohol to a minor and to host underage drinking. Individuals who have fake identification to appear older are also committing a crime in Kansas.

A federal law is a law passed by the United States government. or federal government. Federal laws are supreme over state laws (only in the case of the enumerated powers. states are able to pass laws concerning all other matters).

Federal laws start as bills in one of either the House of Representatives or Senate. For bills starting in the House, the bill goes through committee, where it is refined, then passed on to the House Rules Committee in which parameters are set for its debate on the House floor. Once there, it is debated, then voted upon.

If passed, the bill then enters the Senate, where it passes through committee, then to the floor. In the Senate, filibusters may be used to defeat the bill. If 60 Senators vote for cloture. a filibusteer must cease, and speaking is limited to an hour per Senator. After this time limit expires, the bill is voted upon.

If passed, the bill enters a conference committee composed of members from the relevant House ... Read more »

The South African court system is organised hierarchically, and consists of (from lowest to highest legal authority): Magistrates' Courts ; High Courts ; a Supreme Court of Appeal. the highest authority in non-Constitutional matters; and a Constitutional Court. which is the highest authority in constitutional matters. [ 2 ] The Constitutional Court has final authority to decide whether an issue is Constitutional or not. Certain specialised courts have also been provided for by the legislature, in order to avoid backlog in the main legal administration infrastructure. Among these is the Small Claims Court, which resolves disputes involving small monetary sums. In addition, African indigenous courts, which deal exclusively with indigenous law, also exist.

We look at all sorts of law books for sale  textbooks, legislation books and the nutshell books which (contrary to what your lecturers probably say!) we believe can form quite a useful part of your learning process. Sometimes you need things explained in the most simple way possible before you can start to build and expand your knowledge.

The bookseller is nearly always Amazon because they have some of the best prices, customer service and their delivery is usually free.

But it also may be a good idea to look into buying second hand textbooks. If you re at university keep an eye on notice boards for people wanting to sell their old textbooks. You can get massive discounts. Because let s face it all those law books build up to be quite expensive.

You of course always have the law library, but they don t keep a copy for every single law student and sometimes a certain book will be unavailable. I personally found this to be the case! So I ended up needed to buy ... Read more »

#Master of Laws (LL. M. )

The Master of Laws (LL.M.)

Our LL.M. degree consists primarily of courses and seminars, and requires students to complete a research paper under faculty supervision on a topic of their choice. They may also elect to do more than one research paper. The LL.M. degree is awarded upon completion of 24 credits with at least a 2.7 (“B-”) average in two terms (eight months) of study.

Students in this program freely select courses and seminars, according to their interests, from the wide variety of subjects offered by the Law School. It is customary in U.S. law school classes for students to participate through discussion, by faculty calling upon students for comments, and by students questioning each other and their professors. This kind of active student participation brings intellectual rigor and vibrancy to the American classroom, and the ensuing discussions are greatly enriched by the comparative perspective of a multinational student body.

Masters study can increase your subject knowledge or allow you to change career direction, but the high costs and demands mean it isn't for everyone

How long is a Masters degree in the UK?

Full-time study lasts one or two years, but part-time study can take two to four. Courses normally begin in September or October, though some start in January or February.

Types of Masters degrees

Looks like I m arriving very late in the game for this online gem, but I m in love with BLA BLA. a film by Vincent Morisset. This is a film for computer, in which each scene is completely interactive. Morisset who also happens to be the interactive brains behind Arcade Fire s Neon Bible - explains that the film explores the fundamental principles of human communication. And that communication is driven completely by the viewer namely, you or me. As the film flows through six chapters, the viewer controls everything from the music to the graphics that appear onscreen. Sounds more like a computer game than a film, you say? I thought so too at first, but after a solid half hour re-watching the film again and again, all the while clicking around the screen to see what the characters would do, it really felt like a short film you d catch a the theatre only way more cool. #Maxwell s Equations: Ampere s Law

[Equation 2]

Equation [2] can be explained: Suppose you have a conductor (wire) carrying a current, I. Then this current produces a Magnetic Field which circles the wire.

The left side of Equation [2] means: If you take any imaginary path that encircles the wire, and you add up the Magnetic Field at each point along that path, then it will numerically equal the amount of current that is encircled by this path (which is why we write for encircled or enclosed current).

Let's do an example for fun. Suppose we have a long wire carrying a constant electric current, I [Amps]. What is the magnetic field around the wire, for any distance r [meters] from the wire?

Let's look at the diagram in Figure 1. We have a long wire carrying a current of I Amps. We want to know what the Magnetic Field is at a distance r from the wire. So we draw an imaginary path around the wire, which is the ... Read more »

The ATL School and Firm Insiders Survey asks self-identified current students, alumni, and practicing lawyers to rate major aspects of life at their law school (academics, social life, clinical training, career services, financial aid advising) and/or law firm (compensation, hours, morale, culture, training). #MBA Concentrations - Darden School of Business UVA

Darden has long been recognized as a leading MBA program in general management (ranked No. 1 by Financial Times ). The case study method and integrated core curriculum provide a thorough understanding of how all areas of a business impact one another.

But Darden students are not just strong managers and leaders — they are also expert specialists. To reflect this important point, the Darden faculty added optional concentrations to the curriculum structure in 2010. While students have always tailored the elective curriculum to focus on areas of interest, the concentrations provide additional guidance and structure to this specialization, as well as providing a stronger signal to recruiters of students’ focus. All students still receive the same MBA degree, but now concentrations can be added to résumés as well.

The MBA concentrations are divided into career tracks and theme tracks. MBA students may choose tw ... Read more »

#What are Piracy Laws? (with pictures) - mobile wiseGEEK

Today, the Internet is one of the most common ways in which people get the information they need. However, the globalized nature of this communication system has made it very difficult to enforce the piracy laws intended to give content creators protection from those who wish to unfairly profit from their work. Anti piracy software, piracy reporting systems, and campaigns to educate the public about intellectual property laws have turned into the best defense available against this crime.

Essentially, piracy is copyright infringement. The term is most often applied to electronic or audio visual/media. The most common examples of piracy online include sites that allow for the illegal downloading of music, movies, and video games. Software piracy is a common problem as well, especially for expensive programs such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop .

In the United States, piracy laws allow for up to five year ... Read more »

I recently finished my first year at Whittier in the top 20%. While many students elect to transfer out if they are in the top 20/30%, I have enjoyed my experience at Whittier. For having such a strict curve, the people are very friendly and there is not an overwhelming sense of competition. Prior to coming to Whittier I went on visits to UC Hastings, Santa Clara, and San Diego, where I could feel the cutthroat nature of the students. I instead decided to take a scholarship to go to Whittier even though it is a Tier 4 school. I believe that for the most part, the professors are as good as almost any other school. Three out of my six professors this year graduated from Harvard or NYU law school and were extremely good professors.

The other concern many people have is the 50% attrition rate. While this may seem frightening, it is important to remember that while 30% flunk out, the other 20% transfers. Even thou ... Read more »

#What - s The Worst Law School In New York?

It s an intriguing question. There are 11 ABA-accredited law schools in New York City and Long Island (I m including Pace, even though the law school is in White Plains). Personally I love them all. Seriously, any one of them can produce a story about great idiocy that I can make fun of on the internet. That s all I really care about.

But law students in New York argue over the strengths and weaknesses of their law schools all the time. Or at the very least they often mutter about the idiots across town under their breath.

While some students like to argue that they go to the best law school in New York, that s a less interesting question. And there are so many Yale students running around town (New Haven is only 90 minutes away), so saying you go to the best law school in New York feels a little bit like saying you re the tallest midget.

It s a bit douchy to argue over who s best, but it s pretty fun to argue ove ... Read more »

#What Is a Law in Science?

by Alina Bradford, Live Science Contributor

Date: 25 March 2015 Time: 11:56 PM ET

In equations formulated by Sir Isaac Newton, the force of gravity grows with the mass of two objects and gets weaker the more distant the objects are from each other.

In general, a scientific law is the description of an observed phenomenon. It doesn t explain why the phenomenon exists or what causes it. The explanation of the phenomenon is called a scientific theory. It is a misconception that theories turn into laws with enough research.

In science, laws are a starting place, said Peter Coppinger, an associate professor of biology and biomedical engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. From there, scientists can then ask the questions, Why and how?

Scientific theory vs. scientific law

Both scientific laws and theories are supported by a large body of empirical data and are widely accepted ... Read more »

The history of competition law reaches back to the Roman Empire. The business practices of market traders, guilds and governments have always been subject to scrutiny, and sometimes severe sanctions. Since the twentieth century, competition law has become global. The two largest and most influential systems of competition regulation are United States antitrust law and European Community competition law. National and regional competition authorities across the world have formed international support and enforcement networks.

Modern competition law has historically evolved on a country level to promote and maintain competition in markets principally within the territorial boundaries of nation-states. National competition law usually does not cover activity beyond territorial borders unle ... Read more »

How does HIPAA serve to protect patient rightsI

HIPPA is there to protect the rights of patients that need help or service, so that their information is not shared with anyone else but whom they give consent, or agree to let someone else know their history or information. HIPPA protects the client’s rights so therefore, their information is not public and it is against the law for their information to be shared or put in public.

What areas of the JSBMHA did HIPAA compliance impact?

It affected the client’s rights that their personal information would not be shared with anyone. In addition, the patient confidentiality act was misused in this situation.

What actions should the JSBMHA director take about the HIPAA violation? Explain your answers in detail.

#What are Some Well-Known Online Law Schools?

Although no online law school is accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA), students can still earn law degrees online. However, those choosing this route may not be eligible for state bar exams. Here are some of the well-known online law schools. Schools offering Juris Doctor degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

    Online Law Schools Overview

According to the ABA's ABA Standards for Approval of Law Schools 2013-2014. ABA-accredited law schools are limited in the number of credits they can offer to students via online study. These policies also limit the number of online credits that can be counted toward earning the Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Therefore, the ABA does not currently accredit any online law schools.

Law School. How do I succeed as a 1st year law student?

Quora User. Former attorney and US Congressional aide, author, entrepreneur of a VC-backe.

I think the roughest thing to adjust to during law school is time management, and as such your gift is probably going to be of more value to someone if it saves them time later during their studies.

For example, reading your first case from a law school book, perhaps in the Summer before school starts, is a tedious and quite time consuming process. You don t know what the professor likes to highlight, the points he wants you to pick up, and his view of the facts (which often makes up countless pages of reading that sometimes the prof just says ignore those facts after you ve read dozens of pages). To do this your first week of law school takes maybe 2 hours let s say. But to do it later in the year, when you have a better vibe about what is and is no ... Read more »

    #What are Human Rights

    Universal and inalienable

The principle of universality of human rights is the cornerstone of international human rights law. This principle, as first emphasized in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights in 1948, has been reiterated in numerous international human rights conventions, declarations, and resolutions. The 1993 Vienna World Conference on Human Rights, for example, noted that it is the duty of States to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems.

All States have ratified at least one, and 80% of States have ratified four or more, of the core human rights treaties, reflecting consent of States which creates legal obligations for them and giving concrete expression to universality. Some fundamental human rights norms enjoy universal protection by customary international law across all boundaries and civilizations.

I have the following question to answer: a force of160 N stretches a spring 0.050m from its equilibrium position. A. what is the spring constant of the spring?

The equation for Hooke's Law in my text is F=-kx, where k is the spring constant. So with some simple algebra we can find an equation for k: k = -(f/x). After plugging all my values in I get -3200.

    Kind of.

The negative sign indicates the direction of the force exerted by the spring on the mass. If you pull the mass to the right, the force from the spring is to the left. Since they go opposite directions, there is a minus sign.

However, the problem didn't really give the direction of the forces to begin with. So, in a more carefully-worded problem (a force of 160N to the right displaces the equilibrium point of a mass 0.05m to the right. ), the minus sign becomes important. In this problem as it's written, it's fine to ignore the minus sign.

#What are the Legal issues of franchising

WHAT ARE THE LEGAL ISSUES OF FRANCHISING?

A good relationship between the franchisor and franchisee is critical for the success of both parties. Since franchising establishes a business relationship for years, the foundation must be carefully built by having a clear understanding of the franchise program. Unfortunately, understanding the legal language of franchising can be daunting. The advice of an experienced franchise attorney should be sought to help a prospective franchisee understand the legal issues and to protect them from making costly mistakes. Franchising is governed by federal and state laws that require franchisors to provide prospective franchisees with information that describes the franchisor-franchisee relationship. The two main franchising legal documents are:

We've all had experience with curfews: as the teenager rushing out of the house, or as the parent calling out "Be home by midnight!" But in legal terms, curfews are more than just house rules that can result in a firm "You're grounded!" if violated. Curfews are also laws that effectively prohibit or limit the right to be out in public at certain times, or in some cases, require businesses to close their doors during certain hours.

There are three main types of curfew laws: juvenile curfew laws, emergency curfew laws, and business curfew laws. These are explained in more detail below.

With so many television programs devoted to the portrayal of lawyers, it would seem that everyone should understand what a lawyer does. But televisions shows tend to focus on only one aspect of law--trials--and provide a somewhat exaggerated version of the profession. The legal system affects nearly every aspect of American society--because laws affect nearly every aspect of American society.

An individual with a criminal justice degree in law can have an immediate and major impact on the lives of others. A law degree allows one to defend a person who has been accused of a crime, provides the chance to right wrongs, creates the opportunity to help the little guy battle the big guy, and offers the ability to defend the Constitution from attacks by individuals, corporations, and governments. But those ideals are only a small portion of the actual professional demands.

Attorneys can work in a small town, a rural area, a big city, or even in another country. A law degree ... Read more »
