#Concentration: Business Law - U of MN Law School The University of Minnesota Law School offers J.D. and LL.M. students a concentration in business law to help prepare them to practice in the wide range of opportunities encompassed by this field. Nationally renowned faculty teach courses in commercial, corporate, securities regulation, tax, antitrust, and other important areas of business law. Students can further immerse themselves in business law through seminars, lectures, clinical and externship programs. In addition, students have access to interdisciplinary courses and seminars, student groups, and all the educational events and facilities the University offers. Further questions should be referred to the faculty chair for the concentration in business law: Program HighlightsStudy OpportunitiesRequired courses for the business law concentration are a business associations/corporations or corporations course and three additional courses from a field of eight, including such areas as bankruptcy and contract drafting. Concentration students may take a pro-seminar, which helps introduce them to different areas of practice within business law and gives them guidance in preparing for their preferred areas. Additional business-related offerings are extensive at both the Law School and other University departments. In their second and third years, J.D. students are eligible to study abroad through the Law School's semester exchange program with nine foreign schools, including Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, which is ranked among the top 20 international business schools by the Wall Street Journal. and Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, which offers an international and comparative business law program. Practical OpportunitiesStudents who participate in the Business Law Clinic work on projects that replicate the practice of business law. Experienced business law attorneys supervise teams of students who take the lead representing clients. Students can gain experience in such transactional skills as drafting, problem solving, communication, client interviewing, negotiation, and ethics. Students may also participate in the Bankruptcy Clinic or the Tax Clinic. Employment OpportunitiesThe Twin Cities business and legal community is vibrant, offering students opportunities for part-time work during the school year or full-time summer employment. Prospective employers from around the country come to the Law School to interview students for summer and permanent positions. Regular electronic notice of employment opportunities, fellowships, and other scholarly opportunities is available. Student-Led OpportunitiesThe Business Law Association offers students programming designed to supplement the Law School's curriculum by applying lessons learned in the classroom to a variety of practice areas within business law. Through opportunities at the Law School and in the legal community, students are encouraged to develop relationships while enhancing technical skills relevant to their success as practicing attorneys. The BLA advocates for students to promote a law school experience with immediate influence and lasting value.
