There are many international human rights treaties and domestic laws which protect children’s rights.

International human rights treaties are agreements between different governments around the world. In an international human rights treaty, each government agrees to make sure that people have the rights in the treaty.

Domestic laws are laws decided by the UK Government and Parliament.

The Human Rights Act 1998 makes the rights in the European Convention on Human Rights part of domestic law.

The Equality Act 2010 makes it illegal to discriminate against children.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities protects the rights of all disabled people, including children and young people.

The UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women protects the rights of women and girls.
