Web-Based Law Office Management Applications

Experts have been predicting that soon all of our software and data storage will only exist "in the cloud" (i.e. on the Internet.) It isn't happening as quickly as many predicted, especially for attorneys, but the quantity and increasing quality of this category of software indicates that the prognisticators may be correct. The emergence of the iPad may hasten the move to the cloud.

The disadvantages of Web-based law office management software are concerns about the company going out of business overnight (possibly taking both your software and your data with them), not being able to access your software or client files when access to the Internet is down or is otherwise inaccessible, concerns about security and local ethics rules that prohibit putting confidential client information on another's server.
