Community Based Organizations Check Community based organizations for free legal aid and legal advice. There are organizations serving the legal needs of people who can't afford to hire a lawyer. Many times these are run by volunteer lawyers who work in private practice, academia or in the government sector. These services are for the general public and don't represent a specific group. Law services provided by these organizations include; criminal justice, civil law and juvenile delinquency law. Find these community organizations on the internet by searching for public legal aid , state legal aid or free legal assistance in your city or use a telephone directory. Find your local BAR association. This association may provide free legal assistance or it may have a referral program to help you find free legal aid. These are generally experienced attorneys who do pro bono work for the community they serve.
