This program is designed to prepare you for a scholarly position as faculty in education leadership and higher education or for positions that require knowledge of educational leadership and/or higher education and extensive research preparation.

It will also benefit you if you're working in a P-20 educational setting, higher education, community college or other education related organization.

Consider this degree if you are interested in:

  • Pursuing a doctoral degree to support a teaching role in a college or university setting.

Graduate: Application Admission

Program Courses

Because this program is designed to prepare you for a scholarly career, you'll be expected to master a scholarly research tradition in a specific area of educational administration and be familiar with both quantitative and qualitative research methods in education.

  • minimum of 90 credit hours beyond bachelor’s degree (6 of the 90 credit hours must be in-residence, on-campus and approved by your advisor.*)
  • master's degree is required
  • includes a dissertation
  • 3 credit hours of doctoral courses
  • 27-42 credit hours of electives (includes seminars of student research under faculty supervision and papers for presentation and publication.)
  • research/stats courses

*Courses that meet the 6 credit hour requirement are generally setup for 1-week intensive study in the summer. The courses focus on special topics of major interest allowing for extensive interaction with experts in the field.

Transfer Credits

Each degree program within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is responsible for evaluating transfer credit and determining how the credit will apply to your specific degree program.

The evaluation of transfer credit is based on a review of the comparability of the nature, content and level of the learning experience and its appropriateness to the degree program.

If you're interested in transferring credit, you will need to consult with the UNL academic department associated with your major.
