#Home Distilling Laws: Is It Legal To Make Moonshine in Kentucky?

The Following Questions Will Be Answered In This Article:

Kentucky Moonshine Laws

Is it legal to own a non-alcohol producing still (for water purification, etc.)?

  •   No, but it is a question of the surrounding facts.  Kentucky Revised Statute Section 244.170 provides that “No person shall buy, bargain, sell, loan, own, possess or knowingly transport any apparatus designed for the unlawful manufacture of alcoholic beverages”.   Therefore, the argument that a still is ‘designed’ to manufacture alcohol is an easy one for authorities to make.  If substantial evidence could be shown that the still was designed and used only for water purification, or some other purpose, it’s possible that prosecution could be avoided, but it may be difficult given the way that the statute is written.
  • Can still be seized?   Yes.   Kentucky Revised Statute Section 244 ... Read more »

#How the United States Immigration System Works: A Fact Sheet

U.S. immigration law is very complex, and there is much confusion as to how it works. The Immigration and Naturalization Act (INA), the body of law governing current immigration policy, provides for an annual worldwide limit of 675,000 permanent immigrants, with certain exceptions for close family members. Congress and the President determine a separate number for refugee admissions. Immigration to the United States is based upon the following principles: the reunification of families, admitting immigrants with skills that are valuable to the U.S. economy, protecting refugees, and promoting diversity. This fact sheet provides basic information about how the U.S. legal immigration system is designed.

I. Family-Based Immigration

Family unification is an important principle governing immigration policy. The family-based immigration category allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents ... Read more »

#Home - British Law Centre

For a student in 1990s Prague Law Faculty, bored stiff by tedious ex-cathedra lectures, presenting law dogmatically as a body or rules to be memorized, the Diploma in English and EU Law offered an exciting and refreshing window into a very different legal world, way of thinking, and understanding the law. For me personally, that was the moment when law started being fun. Add to that the opportunity to learn and perfect your legal English, a must in any international legal work done today. and you have the recipe for a successful career in law, in your home country or beyond.

The British Law Centre Diploma equips students with all of the skills one would expect from those graduating the best English universities. The skills acquired during the BLC Diploma are well recognised in the legal and academic worlds and it is no surprise that numerous BLC graduates have achieved great success in a wide variety of academic and professional environments. ... #How does the Louisiana legal system differ from the rest of the nation?

Cliff Gilley JD cum laude, Seattle University Class of 2000; Worked as a criminal prosecutor in King County, WA; Comments on Quora are not intended as legal advice nor should they be construed to create an attorney/client relationship. In short, I m not your lawyer - if you have a legal question, contact an attorney in your jurisdiction for a real answer.

The primary difference between Louisiana and other states is that Louisiana is a civil law state, whereas all other states in the US are common law states.

This is a very important and interesting distinction, and is a clear reflection of the French history that plays a very prominent part in the development of Louisiana and its legislative and judicial processes.

The primary difference between the two systems is that, under a civil law system, only those things that are explicitly outlined in the statutes of the s ... Read more »

#How Much Does A Top MBA Degree Cost? Poets and Quants Poets and Quants

by John A. Byrne Poets Quants Author on January 8, 2011

What’s the most expensive two-year MBA program you can take? You might be surprised to learn it isn’t Harvard or Stanford, or Wharton or Chicago, or Dartmouth or Yale. Instead, priciest MBA is being sold by Columbia Business School. Columbia estimates that the cost of its two-year, full-time MBA program in New York is a whopping $168,307.

Harvard Business School Dean Nitin Nohria said earlier this week that the cost of a Harvard MBA is less than several other top rivals. “We are at the middle of the pack when it comes to the top ten schools,” he said in a wide-ranging interview with The Financial Times. By the estimates of the total cost of the degree posted on business school websites, he s actually being somewhat conservative. Harvard comes in as the seventh most expensive MBA program among the top 20 U.S. business schools.

#How legal tide turned on same-sex marriage in the US - BBC News

Same sex marriage is now legal in the entire US after a Supreme Court ruling striking down state marriage bans.

The ruling means all US states must grant marriage licences to gay and lesbian couples and recognise marriages that have taken place in other states.

So how did we get to this point?

One of the first couples to wed in Massachusetts

In 1996, the US Congress passed and President Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that prohibited federal recognition of same-sex marriages.

In 2003, Massachusetts judges ruled the state constitution allowed gay marriage, and marriage licences followed shortly after that. In the following years, a handful of states passed gay marriage bans while others began working towards allowing same-sex unions - either by court order or legislation.

One high-profile ban occurred by referendum in Calif ... Read more »

#How Families Are Kept Apart by Current Immigration Laws: Immigration Impact

Family reunification has stood as a central pillar of the U.S. immigration system, dating back to 1965. Despite this, a new study by researchers Maria Enchautegui and Cecilia Menjivar shows that current immigration laws actually work to keep many families apart. Not surprisingly, the authors’ analysis reveals that immigrant households have a “high incidence of persons married with spouses absent, a high share of male-headed households, and high proportions of children not living with their parents or separated from the parents.”

In principle, our immigration law recognizes the right of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to be reunited with close family members born abroad. By doing so, the law embraces the value of family life as a “matter of personal intimacy as much as physical support, of giving and receiving ‘care’ in the broadest sense.” However, a closer look at the actual impact o ... #What s the best route into law?

Sponsored by:

T here are many different ways to become a lawyer, all of which have pros and cons. Whether you aspire to be a solicitor or a barrister, the most obvious first step is to apply for an undergraduate law degree.

But don't rush into it: are you genuinely interested in academic law? Or would you rather study something you're more passionate about?

If you've always dreamt of studying science, history, philosophy, or languages at university, you don't have to give up on this. Law firms don't discriminate against people who haven't studied law as undergraduates. In fact, many heartily welcome trainees with non-law degrees.

Some magic circle firms claim that around half of their trainees don't have law degrees. Slaughter and May claims to employ solicitors who studied 126 different degree courses, including history, biology, languages, psychology and chemistry. The firm recently employed a former gynecologist, ... Read more »

#How Much Does It Cost to Earn an MBA Degree?

Average Cost of an MBA Degree

Although the cost of an MBA degree can vary, the average tuition for a two-year MBA program exceeds $60,000. If you attend one of the top business schools in the U.S., you can expect to pay as much as $100,000 or more in tuition and fees.

Advertised Costs vs. Actual Costs

It is important to note that the advertised cost of tuition may be lower than the amount you are actually required to pay. If you get scholarships, grants, or other types of financial aid. you may be able to cut your MBA degree tuition in half. Your employer may also be willing to pay for all or at least part of your MBA program costs.

You should also be aware that tuition costs do not encompass other fees associated with earning an MBA degree. You will need to pay for books, school supplies (such as a laptop and software), and maybe even boarding expenses.

#How to Become a Lawyer

Getting a Law Degree

Canada has two legal traditions: common law and civil law. Common law is derived from the British legal system and applies to all provinces and territories except Quebec. Civil law is based on the French legal system and is used in Quebec. Lawyers in all parts of Canada except Quebec must have a degree in common law, while Quebec requires a civil law degree.

There are 20 universities in Canada that offer professional law degrees, including 16 common law schools and six civil law schools (two of the universities offer degrees in both systems of law). It usually takes three years of study at law school to obtain a degree.

A degree in law is a graduate degree, which means that you must engage in university studies at the undergraduate level before applying to law school. There is no mandatory discipline of study so you may chose almost any program that interests you. Most Canadian law schools require the completion ... Read more »

#Immigration Law

Immigration is the act of entering a country with the intent to permanently live and/or work there. United States immigration laws encompass a wide range of situations that involve a person from a foreign country coming to this country, whether for a temporary visit, or to live here permanently.

The American immigration system is set up primarily to grant immigration status based on factors such as family reunification, in-demand work skills, and capital investment. The immigration system also covers refugees and asylum seekers, and provides a "lottery" for immigration status to people who have less pressing immigration needs. The procedure for gaining legal immigrant status will depend upon, among various factors, which path you are eligible to pursue based on your employment, education, and family situation.

It takes approximately seven to eight years of total higher education to obtain a JD degree.

There is no specific undergraduate course work required to be admitted to law school, but a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science degree is necessary. #Phoenix Bad Faith Insurance

If you’re like most Americans, you pay multiple insurance premiums every month: health, auto, and property insurance at a minimum.

And like most Americans, you may believe that insurance companies exist for the your benefit or for that of others like you who seek to protect hard-earned assets in the event of an accident, illness, natural disaster, or other unexpected loss. When the time comes that you need to make a claim, however, you may have to face the sad reality—the truth your agent never told you: the insurance company’s primary reason for existence is not to help those who have suffered losses recover; their main purpose is to turn profits for their investors. That means filling their coffers by collecting premiums month after month and then paying out the least amount they can get away with.

I'm a native of North Carolina, which just passed a stunningly restrictive new abortion law. and I'm currently living in China, where abortion is cheap, government-funded, and common. So recently, I began wondering which countries have the most liberal abortion laws, and how lax these laws actually are. I assumed that Western Europe would be the land of abortion on demand, likely government-subsidized, and possibly with a free bag of condoms afterward. But as it turns out, abortion laws in Europe are both more restrictive and more complicated than that.

Waiting periods, decried by American pro-choicers as infantilizing and unreasonably burdensome, are common in Western Europe.
