Among other actions, they issue subpoenas, conduct prehearing conferences, issue defaults, and rule on motions and the admissibility of evidence. #Affordable Excellence

Let’s face the facts – with the cost to earn a law degree, rising debt, a tight job market and lower starting salaries, a number of challenges face America’s law students at the moment. But how many law schools are doing something about it? Not many.

If you’re looking for an exception to that rule – and an exceptional legal education, to boot – take a closer look at Roger Williams. Building on a 20-year legacy as Rhode Island’s only law school and as a leading institution in Southern New England, RWU Law disrupted the market by boldly instituting its new Affordable Excellence initiative for 2014-2015. Now extended for 2015-2016, the initiative makes us the best-priced ABA-accredited private law school in the Northeast and one of the best values on the East Coast.

On the affordability side:

  • We reduced tuition by nearly 18 percent for the 2014-15 year (to $33,792), and extended the reduction for 2015-16. No RWU L ... Read more »

#Admiralty law

Admiralty law or maritime law is a body of common law and statutory law primarily concerned with private commercial maritime activities. Maritime law covers controversies arising on the sea as well as controversies arising on land that are directly related to maritime activities, such as torts, contracts, passenger travel, and shipping. Admiralty law may apply to such controversies arising between domestic as well as international parties.

Under Article III, Section 2 of the United States Constitution. as implemented by 28 USC § 1333. federal courts have exclusive jurisdiction over cases and controversies arising under admiralty law. That is, no state court may exercise subject matter jurisdiction over any admiralty case. It is, however, very common that parties will submit maritime controversies to private arbitration, usually in England. England is also the forum for the greatest majority of international maritime litigation in court.

#What is the difference between the ceremonial law, the moral law, and the judicial law in the Old Testament?

Question: What is the difference between the ceremonial law, the moral law, and the judicial law in the Old Testament?

Answer: The law of God given to Moses is a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that the Israelites' behavior reflected their status as God's chosen people. It encompasses moral behavior, their position as a godly example to other nations, and systematic procedures for acknowledging God's holiness and mankind's sinfulness. In an attempt to better understand the purpose of these laws, Jews and Christians categorize them. This has led to the distinction between moral law, ceremonial law, and judicial law.

Moral Law

The moral laws, or mishpatim. relate to justice and judgment and are often translated as "ordinances." Mishpatim are said to be based on God's holy nature. As such, the or ... Read more »

#Adultery laws: where is cheating still illegal?

Several Muslim countries and almost half of all US states still consider adultery a criminal offence

South Korea has decriminalised adultery, revoking a law that punished cheating spouses with up to two years' imprisonment.

With the 60-year old law now deemed unconstitutional, the landmark ruling means that the 5,500 people convicted since 2008 could have their cases reconsidered, according to the BBC. However, there still remains some opposition within the conservative country, with supporters of the law saying that it is vital to help keep families together.

However, campaigners argue that adultery laws are outdated, sexist and an infringement of human rights as the courts should not be regulating consensual adult behaviour that occurs in private.

Laws around the world

South Korea was one of only three Asian countries to still criminalise adultery, alongside Taiwan and the Philippines. Al ... Read more »

#Affordable Housing - University at Buffalo

Anyone looking for lasting life lessons should listen to University at Buffalo Law School Prof. George M. Hezel and note his work on the Affordable Housing Clinic.

There is a certain justice in having Hezel as the founder and driving force behind the clinic, which has given literally thousands of community members a chance at basic services and safe, clean living spaces all while teaching UB Law School students marketable skills in the complicated world of nonprofit financing and government grants.

Like many of the people his clinic has helped, Hezel is a product of public housing. One of five sons, Hezel grew up in the Kenfield Housing Project at 156 Langfield Drive. He has fond memories of Kenfield and his neighbors, celebrating what public housing has to offer, rather than making excuses for its limitations.

It was a lively community with gaggles of kids to play with, says Hezel. We caught pollywogs in ... Read more »

General Alcohol Policy

A combination of Federal, State, and local laws help shape the role alcohol plays in the United States, including how we:

  • Manufacture alcohol

  • Respond to alcohol-related problems

In general, Congress has the power to regulate importing and taxing alcoholic beverages.

Also, the primary Federal law governing alcohol policy is the 21st Amendment, which repealed national prohibition. It also gives individual States control over:

  • Whether to allow sale of alcohol in the State
  • Whether to allow importing alcohol into the State
  • How to distribute alcohol throughout the State
  • Possession of alcohol in the State

Some States offer local governments control over alcohol policy development and enforcement. Other States control alcohol policy at the State government l ... Read more »

#Ampere - s Law - Physics Video by Brightstorm

Ampere's Law was discovered in 1819 by Ampere. Ampere's Law states that currents generate magnetic fields or in other words, whenever you have a current, there is a magnetic field circulate around it. Ampere's Law is expressed in the equation magnetic field x 2(pi) x radius = constant x current(passing through that path).

So let s talk about ampere s law. Ampere s law was discovered well the effect behind ampere s law was discovered around 1819 actually by a Physics lecturer who was in the middle of a lecture and he noticed that a magnetic field was generated that moved around a compass needle when he ran a big current through a wire, so the law basically says that currents, if I run a current it will generate a magnetic field. There is multiple ways of stating this law; there s the [IB] law, there s oersted s law. The standard way to present it is in terms of ampere s l ... Read more »
