#Consumer Rights - Consumer Protection Law.
What is Consumer Rights Law?
Consumer rights and consumer protection law provides a way for individuals to fight back against abusive business practices. These laws are designed to hold sellers of goods and services accountable when they seek to profit by taking advantage of a consumers lack of information or bargaining power. Some conduct addressed by consumer rights laws is simply unfair, while other conduct can be described as outright fraud. Consumer rights laws exist at the federal and state level. They are enforced by government agencies, offices of attorneys general, and through individual and class action lawsuits filed by victims.
Types of Consumer Protection Cases
The most common kinds of abusive business practices occur when consumers are in particularly vulnerable circumstances. For example, when people fall behind on their bills, debt collectors are in a position to make life even more d

#Consumer Credit
Consumer Credit: An Overview
Credit allows consumers to finance transactions without having to pay the full cost of the merchandise at the time of the transaction. A common form of consumer credit is a credit card account issued by a financial institution. Merchants may also provide direct financing for products which they sell. Banks may directly finance purchases through loans and mortgages.
The law of consumer credit is primarily embodied in federal and state statutes. These laws protect consumers and provide guidelines for the credit industry.
States have passed various statutes regulating consumer credit. The Uniform Consumer Credit Code has been adopted in eleven states and Guam. Its purpose is to protect consumers obtaining credit to finance their transactions, ensure that adequate credit is provided, and govern the credit industry in general.
In 1968, Congress passed the Consumer Credit Protection Act in part to regulate th

#Contracts of employment - the rules
This guide is based on UK law. It was last updated in June 2011.
What is the contract of employment?
The contract of employment is the agreement between employer and employee which governs the relationship between both parties.
It need not be in writing and can be implied from the surrounding circumstances. A written contract can comprise one short handwritten page or a lengthy document following detailed negotiations. Most contracts fall somewhere in between.
Failing to provide a written contact of employment results in a lack of clarity since neither party knows the precise extent of their respective rights, duties and obligations.
By taking the time to carefully prepare a contract of employment for each employee, disputes and ambiguity about the employment relationship can be minimised. As each business has different needs and outlooks, the style and content of the contract of employ

#What Is Tort Law? Definition and Examples - Video - Lesson Transcript
Instructor: Kat Kadian-Baumeyer
Kat has a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Management and teaches Business courses.
A tort is simply a civil wrong. There are three general types of torts that may cause injury to another person. In civil law, torts are grounds for lawsuits to compensate a grieving party for any damages or injuries suffered.
Tort Law: Three Types of Torts
Torts are wrongdoings that are done by one party against another. As a result of the wrongdoing, the injured person may take civil action against the other party. To simplify this, let's say while walking down the aisle of a grocery store, you slip on a banana that had fallen from a shelf. You become the plaintiff. or injured party, and the grocery store is considered the tortfeasor or defendant. the negligent party.

#Copyright laws for music could increase cost of online music streaming
Freelance contributor, TechHive
Late last week, the United States Copyright Office released a report recommending sweeping reforms to the existing music licensing system, which is a labyrinthine mess of outdated regulations (because most of them were established before the Internet age).
Titled “Copyright and the Music Marketplace,” the 245-page tome follows an exhaustive study of music licensing that took the best part of a year, during which the Office sent out two notices seeking public input, received hundreds of pages worth of comments in reply, and held three public roundtables. No sooner had it published the report than reactions started pouring in.
Among them was a short but blunt statement from the Digital Media Association (DiMA) lambasting the Office for squandering “a significant opportunity to truly advance copyright, music licensing, and the music marketplace with

#Criminal law: area of practice
In many ways working in criminal law can be summed up in one phrase: ‘Expect the unexpected and be prepared to deal with it.’
Practitioners of criminal law either prosecute or defend people in all levels of criminal courts in England and Wales. Both aspects of practice involve applying criminal law to the facts and evidence of each individual case.
Graduate careers in criminal law
In many ways working in criminal law can be summed up in one phrase: Expect the unexpected and be prepared to deal with it. Criminal lawyers work with all areas of criminal law and all levels of crimes, from speeding to murder. The job involves advising the police both before and at the time of charge, managing the case as it passes through the criminal courts and presenting it before the court. This calls for not only advocacy skills before magistrates and judges in court but also the ability to communicate clearly with police officers, victims an
